What a monumental blow that must have been, too. I mean, who doesn’t want to see this concert?
Is that all? Sign me right up, and do it fast. I wouldn’t want to miss the possibility to glad-hand some guys in an obscure band that broke up 30 years ago. I mean, like wow, it’s the Raspberries. If you knew anybody else in the band besides Eric Carmen you were one of only four in the world, the other three being the other guys in the band.
This is a seminal event. Don’t miss it or you’ll regret it for the rest of your life. God knows that at 28 I’ve been lacking something, now’s my chance to complete the circle. I can die in peace knowing that the Raspberries are back together.
I’m pretty sure even Eric Carmen couldn’t name two Raspberries songs! (Yes, I’ll spot him “Go All the Way”!).
I’m sure the $45 will be worth every penny, but I can’t go- I’m saving the bread for the inevitable reunion of the Looking Glass (“Brandy, you’re a fiiiiine girl…”) with opening act Ramjam (“Whooooooa, Black Betty, bam a lam, whooooa, Black Betty, bam a lam…”).
I don’t begrudge any band as good as the Rasperries $45.00 for a ticket; if I’m a fan, I’m sure it’s more than worth it. It’s whores like the Eagles charging $100.00 and up that need to be shot.
Quite true, Qadgop. The Eagle are much more than 2 1/2 times more talented, and they had easily 2 1/2 times more of a career, than did the Raspberries…so perhaps a ticket price only 2 1/2 times that of the Raspberries is really a bargain.
Oops, jumped in a little prematurely there. I just know I’ll get bashed by someone anxious to point out that $45 doesn’t go into $100 two-and-one-half times, so make that 2.2 times, etc.
I’ll take The Raspberries over the Eagles any day. To suggest The Raspberries didn’t have any talent is ludicrous. They were great pop craftsmen, and their first two albums Raspberries and Fresh are an essential part of any pop afficianado’s music collection.
$45 for a ticket is a bit on the pricey side, but not much above the average price of a concert these days. I’d pay $25-$30 to see them, personally.
Well…I don’t know. Perhaps if you’re using general popularity as a measure. Among pop/rock musicians, The Raspberries are very well respected and known. They’re a band akin to Big Star (though not quite as good) who wrote timeless songs that just flew under the radar of the casual music listener. Among songwriters, though, they’re held in good stead.
I’ll chime in also, pulykamell. I didn’t mean to be disrespectful toward the Raspberries so much as to express my high opinion of the Eagles. No offense was intended.
