The reign of King Charles III of the United Kingdom

At first it was the Baby Bust. Tweeners was used for a bit. Generation Jones is what’s taken hold. That’s all that I’ve personally heard.

If so, that’s not a term that sees wide use here in the U.S. – as I noted earlier, I do a lot of work using demographics and such, and it’s not a common classification (I’ve barely heard of it). Most definitions I see of the Baby Boom generation is 1946-1964 (give or take), and Generation X is 1965-1985 (or so).

I don’t want to hijack anymore but it’s gaining very wide use.

Read the wiki. It makes sense. Do a Google search. It’s really not obscure

I laughed.

“Charles In Charge”.

Even better!

(For those blissfully unaware:)

my question is Charles known as a religiously devout person or is he paying lip service to tradition with all the religious traditions?

Not as much as his mother but certainly more than the average modern Brit.

I’m wondering… With Charles simply declaring William Prince of Wales in a speech, is that it?

I remember when Charles became the Prince of Wales it was a huge deal, televised internationally and all, big gathering, speech in Welsh, kneeling before the Queen, all sorts of ceremonial stuff.

Will all that stuff just be skipped? Is it part of Charles’ announced ‘downsizing’ the monarchy push?

No. When Charles became Prince of Wales, it was a small notification in the London Gazette.

His investiture took place 11 years later.

Well, he has quietly asked (even while still Prince of Wales) his nieces (Andrew’s daughters) to start performing Royal duties so, dunno. (I think Zara Philips is hiding somewhere)
Downsizing will happen on its own as lots of the erstwhile Queens more distant relatives begin dying off. Right now their problem isn’t too many Royals, its too few ones in their prime. Its Will and Kate and…a few seventy somethings (Charles, Camilla and Anne) and oh yeah, Edward and his missus, who are in their sixties, plus a battalion of young un.

The large investiture ceremony isn’t needed. It has only happened a few times.

The formal enactment will be by letters patent under the Great Seal. It may be that this hasn’t yet been drawn up, as the Chancery clerks are presumably working overtime to produce the huge number of formal documents suddenly needed. Some of the more technical bits of business at the Accession Council were the orders to enable such grants to be processed without the need for new official seals. But the King has doubtless already signed the warrant to instigate the process of granting the title to Prince William. The investiture is a separate matter.

I had been wondering how quickly it would become “official.” The Royal Family’s website already has William listed as “The Prince of Wales” (although the text in the browser tab still says “About The Duke of Cambridge”), so it would seem that Charles saying it in his address was sufficient for things to start changing.

The necessary documents undoubtedly went to the top of the pile.
The appointment is by Letters patent. Here are the Letters patent which appointed Charles as Prince of Wales…

The King’s grandfather, George VI, announced his intention to create his brother, the former Edward VIII, Duke of Windsor immediately after he abdicated, but the letters patent weren’t actually issued for a few weeks. He still started using the title without right away without objection.

He has been proclaimed King of Canada.

Hmm, perhaps they should’ve held off on the gun salute until after the French version was read. Poor optics, but the subtitles were down right hilarious. I’m a little surprised Canada didn’t take the opportunity to omit the references to the UK and Defender of the Faith from his official titles.

It’s set by a federal statute so would need to be amended by Parliament.

While you are at it, learned King’s Counsel, maybe Canada should also abolish the dual language proclamations and have it done in Norman French, like the Conquerer intended.

The subtitles were hilarious, and the poor fellow did not expect the gun salute.
