The reign of King Charles III of the United Kingdom

oh geez lol I meant the new PM lol

There’s actually an intervening generation in between those two: the Silent Generation (typically defined as being born in 1928-1945). The Silents were still kids or teenagers during WWII, and thus, while the older ones remember WWII, they weren’t active participants, being largely too young to serve.

(My parents are both Silents: Dad was born in 1933, Mom in 1940.)

Look behind the Tastee Freez. But be prepared for a shocking sight involving chili dogs.

This is interesting. It speaks to the idea that Charles has privately thought long and deeply about his eventual role as monarch.

We use the flag for that. We literally pledge allegiance to it constantly. Trouble is, it’s no good at ribbon-cutting, though it does all right waving to the crowds.

My apologies! These edwards, Georges, and alberts get a bit confusing.

And a shining example on why children should be given their own names. Seriously! I understand that most monarchies that are Christians must have saint names, but good heavens! there are more than just a handful of saints. Pick a fairly unique one for the first of the gazillion names you give them.

The queen did fairly well although she did give up on #4, (Edward) as did her children breaking the cycle a bit.

I like him, too. I think he will be a good monarch.

amusing article

When John McCain was defeated in 2008, it was noted that the Silent Generation probably lost its last chase to have a representative in the White House.

“It will no longer be possible to give so much of my time and energies to the charities and issues for which I cared so deeply, but I know this important work will go on in the trusted hands of others.”

My take is different, it doesn’t mean that he will stop talking about it just that he has now other tasks imposed by his new duties, it also does not mean that he will not assign others to continue that mission.

You are so right! :person_facepalming:t4:

Sorry. I knew there was, but I couldn’t remember what they were called. Um… silent… dontcha know.

No worries! Understanding demographics and psychographics is a big part of my job.

one big change is I think hel’l be seen as "less remote or formal " I mean the queen seemed like she could be friendly but there was always like a glass window between her and the public like she never for she was queen and couldn’t offend anyone …

Similarly, we have Generation Jones which is between Boomers and X. It’s roughly 1958 and 1967. We remember Vietnam as children but generally didn’t experience computers until college or our first professional job. Obama was the first Jones President and he consideres himself such.

[coughs] Joe Biden [/coughs]

Well, but isn’t it really an opposite situation? I mean, the vast majority of Christians go around just being James Earl, David Bruce, Juan Carlos or Jean Philippe __ surname__, as opposed to Albert Victor George Arthur Ethelbert or María Eugenia Josefina Cayetana del Rosario _ surname __ . They have plenty of names to pick from. And for example C3 has “Philip” as one his names, his mother had “Alexandra” and her father had “Frederick”. That somehow the tradition of the family is that you reign as George or Edward if male, and Mary or Elizabeth if female, because otherwise it doesn’t sound like a proper Brit monarch, is not the fault of not having enough names to pick.

Don’t get me started on the French and Louis.

2 other ways to look at it:
My impression when I heard it:
He’s saying Goodbye Harry and Meghan, stay overseas, no new titles for you!
My kid’s impression:
He’s being non-committal and leaving the option open for them to come back if they want.

At least with Charles there was a bit of a break between 2 and 3.

I can understand that there are names that you won’t use because there is a royal agreement (Albert) or bad connections ( Richard, John, Charles was controversial when they named him). Then don’t give them as a first choice!

Thought should also be given to the fact that you can’t always depend on being down the line (Elizabeth).

Give Euplus a chance!

I agree on the Louis horrour. I was a bit disappointed in the new wales couple when they went with Louis, I know he was the favourite uncle of charles, but I couldn’t help but think of the French thing.

IMHO Louis Mountbatten was more to Charles than just a favorite uncle. He was a father figure and mentor. They had a stronger bond than Charles did with Philip. Charles is not a “manly” athletic guy like Philip was.

werent they refered as the “blank generation” in some circles occasionally
