I was just thinking about Charles’s own peccadilloes and the trouble they got him in back in the, what, 80s? 90s? Seems so tame in comparison.
The “Overton window” on what constitutes outrageous has really gotten up and flown out the window in recent years. More so in US than UK, but you chaps are making a go of it too.
His grandpa’s brother had to give up being king because he wanted to marry a divorcee.
Times have indeed changed.
Not just a divorcee; an American divorcee.
And boy did the Crown dodge a bullet back then.
But traditionally shenanigans carried out discreetly were let slide as long as it didn’t rise beyond social impropriety. Andy though seems like he blew right past every norm.
That’s true; Edward VIII would not have been an effective leader during the war.
Oh, he would have been effective for someone.
‘Misconduct in public office’ - He shared confidential government documents he had access to as a UK trade envoy with Epstein.
That and his Nazi ties.
Harry should have studied his family history more.
… Snerk.
Although I do feel the two of them deserve to choose their partner.
I’m technically British, and aside from the standard “across the puddle” rivalry…
PS, I also enjoyed her role in “Suits”; although I have doubts about her real acting ability she got into a well-rated show and made a success of it.
Prince William Will Ban Andrew from King Charles’ Funeral, Per Sources
An odd choice of phrasing.
That seems to say Andrew will decide to attend or not, then William & family will do the opposite. Which is backwards from how it’ll happen.
Instead, the new King William (regardless of regnal name) will attend and Andrew will be banished.
There’s being diplomatic, and then there’s doublespeak.
There’s also the fact that it relies on a single unnamed source of unknown reliability who is giving their opinion about something that may or may not happen in the future.
That statement isn’t specifically about King Charles’ funeral
When it comes to royal events that could involve the entire family, the solution—as far as William is concerned—is easy: per the source, “If Andrew is present, William, Catherine and the children won’t be. It’s that simple.”
Any events that could involve the entire family - which I take to mean that William and his family won’t attend any of his cousins’ events if their father is there. I’’m sure it’s also a signal to others (perhaps including his father) that they are making a choice when the invitations go out.
Especially odd when talking hypothetically about the funeral of King Charles III. As if William, his elder son and the new king, wouldn’t attend?
Unless you know something we don’t, I think it’s safe to say King Charles is going to have a funeral at some point.
The article and the lede extract preview are a mess. There are several points made and with shifting POV. One topic is Charles inevitable eventual funeral. Other topics are other hypothetical events Charles or the government may convene while he’s alive & reasonably well.
Maybe it’s been on William’s mind because he is getting impatient and has already set a date

What happens if a British monarch goes missing, permanently?
