And if the Queen Mother hadn’t insisted on a virgin, Charles would likely not have married a woman as young and naive as Diana.
It’s also worth noting that divorced women were incredibly rare in England until the 19th century; prior to 1857 an absolute divorce required a private act of Parliament.
Good news for him: UK police say no new investigation into Prince Andrew allegations
It doesn’t sound like there’s anything new in the latest release of documents, either with Andrew or with others who have previously been named.

I remember learning all that from reading Patriot Games. After saving the life of the Prince of Wales Jack Ryan is a guest of the Yeoman Warders at the Tower.
That novel got dated really quickly, given that it was written before Charles and Diana’s marriage fell apart.
If I remember correctly they aren’t named in the novel beyond their titles but it’s obviously them. The movie changed it to some fictional English peer. I read it long after the marriage fell apart and it read very weird. The inside information about the Tower was very interesting. All of the Yeoman Warders are retired Regimental Sergeant Majors or equivalent.
A few books later, Robbie Jackson sees the PoW at an event and decides not to go up to him and strike up a conversation about his wife… so at least Clancy had some self-awareness about the whole thing.
King Charles NBC wrote is going to hospital for his prostate and Princes Kate for abdominal pain.

Thank you Elendil_s_Heir for posting cites!
I can hardly imagine what it’s like for Prince Harry when his wife and father are both taking treatment. Maybe it’s life experience for being a monarch yet I really couldn’t say.
Kate is William’s wife, not Harry’s.
Thank you Commasense! It was a strange mix-up as they don’t share much resemblance.
Life experience for being a human on the verge of middle age - but with a more substantial support network and financial cushion.
Not if those 3rd cousins are also the result of cousin marriages, which was a feature of European royal families for hundreds of years.
Two random people meeting who are 3rd cousins and marrying is inconsequential but royals aren’t random people. By the 20th Century all the royal families of Europe had pedigree collapse in their background even if not to the extent of Charles II of Spain.
Possibly Charles III’s greatest service to his family was marrying Diana Spencer who, although a member of the aristocracy, wasn’t from a royal family herself and presumably had a family tree with more branches. Likewise, the current Princess of Wales is also from “common” stock although I gather there was some marriage into the upper classes
Anyhow - John Oliver might have been born in Britain but he’s clearly not a monarchist. And now he’s a US citizen so as long as he’s in the US I will defend his right to make inbreeding jokes in reference to the British royal family.
Look like a claymore or, in Gaelic, claidheamh mór. Big two-handed sword for big Scotsmen to carry into battle. It’s probably bigger than the woman it was named after.
Supposedly one of their main uses were to remove the front legs of charging cavalry horses. They’d do a number on you, too, of course, but you’d be sort of collateral damage.
Of course, the one shown is ceremonial even if it does have a real blade.
Leave it to the Gaels to use nine letters where four would suffice.
