This is pretty much exactly the reasoning behind his supporters’ stated desire for him to become president in two different articles I posted over the past few weeks. I consider this an extremely irresponsible attitude, and a troubling sign that our society is becoming jaded and decadent to a dangerous degree.
Seeing as how the “solid center right” party is in fact the Democratic Party, I’m going to guess that no, there aren’t.
Well, shit. Jaded and decadent are old friends of mine.
Well, sure, when compared to liberal paradise parties like those in, oh, I don’t know, the U.S.S.R? Mao’s China? Cuba?
No damn classism or exploitative free enterprise there! It was equal misery, privation and fear of midnight door knocks for all. But until you can manage to get the Dems as far left as you think they should be, these goals are just thwarted dreams, aren’t they?
I’m watching some of the discussion on CNN at the Convention Center. Almost can’t hear over the band rehearsing in the background.
Springsteen’s Born In The U.S.A.
Another dumbfuck Republican who hasn’t read the lyrics.
I love it. They force themselves to vote for whoever is the name placed in nomination at the Convention rather than own up to having voted for someone other than the guy who’s backstage.
All these ploys to stamp down last minute challenges and ensure a smooth coronation of a proper candidate, blowing up in the party’s face when stuck with an IMproper candidate, are perverse fun.
I mean, I understand what they were intending to do, but really, you should just let the votes be counted. So the people of your state voted for someone other than the presumptive. Own it.
Yes there is a tradition to once the candidate’s “over the top” someone makes a motion to suspend the rule and proceed to election by “acclamation” – but not in this convention, not this year; they were going to work-to-rule.
Puerto Rico proudly if mootly cast its 23 delegate votes for Marco Rubio, making good on my friends the local GOP Chairwoman and National Committeeman’s NeverTrump posture. Around here the usual strategy if the winner of the PR primary/caucus is not the presumptive in the end is to count on that in a normal convention, they’ll lay low and pass if necessary until the acclamation comes around.
Yup, going back to Reagan '84.
I though Springsteen had refused Pubbies permission to use it?
What a bizarre outburst.
Especially since liberals would say that’s exactly what conservatives, especially social conservatives like him, want, only he doesn’t think it’s a big deal because it’d be against people he doesn’t like.
Those responsible for sacking the people who have just been sacked have been sacked.
Maybe connecting the opposition with Lucifer. Oh wait, that was last night, too.
Millivanillia’s speech was actually the only non-offensive one we’ve been treated to so far. And that includes the invocation.
Thank you.
[warning: non-lawyer talking law ahead]
I think there’s a difference between live performances and playing commercially released recordings. Live performances of previously-released music can be licensed more or less automatically by paying a set fee through a venue’s agreement with a musical licensing agency (e.g. ASCAP). This form of licensing allows cover bands in bars, for example. In this case, the performers are licensed to reinterpret the musical composition.
That’s different from playing a copyrighted recording of the same song. So the Pubbies can’t put a Springsteen CD on, but GE Smith and friends can go to town on Born in the USA without any legal impediment.
Why the crippling irony doesn’t stop them is anyone’s guess.
Sure, but you have to realize… she’s hot so it’s different.
- The Convention Center would have the required performance licenses.
- It’s a cover band, no confusing them with Springsteen or giving the impression that Springsteen is a Trump supporter.
ETA: Or what Enginerd said.
Actually, Starving Artist, not only are de Democrats right of center, compared to center Dutch political parties. Even Bernie Sanders is right of center compared to mainstream Dutch politics. What Bernie wants for the US, we already have in the Netherlands, and more, and we’re doing pretty okay.
Yeah, but apparently European happiness doesn’t count, according to conservatives. You’d be much happier with systems more like the United States’, even if none of them can convincingly tell you why.
Or else sucking at the government teat for so long has made you all delusional, and you’ll all regret it when it collapses in the next generation or so. Either or
Well said, Leaper.
