Paul Ryan’s speech has been the highlight for me (so far). Didn’t waste a lot of time hyping Trump. But did present a lot of good reasons to supported the Ticket.
So Melania’s speech writers copied a few phrases from a old one done in 2008. gasp! By Michelle. I couldn’t care less.
Why doesn’t the press put that much attention into examining the ideas and proposals in these speeches? Instead of wanking off over a few borrowed phrases?
Yeah, these useless pundits consider real analysis of ideas boring. Screaming about plagiarism creates interest and sells their news. Same old crap as always. Real voters don’t care.
Oh, yeah? Well, if things are so peachy, how come so many of you have to ride bicycles to work? And you’d best not come around and try to saw one of my doors in half!
He squirted two squirts into a bottle that already had water in it, which is the weirdest part. Watch how the color spreads in the bottle. Who wants some mustard-water?!
What ideas and proposals? You mean Hillary being locked up by Chris Christie’s Revolutionary People’s Court? That’s disturbing but it’s the most concrete thing I’ve heard.
Monday - [del]Make America Safe Again[/del] “Hillary Sucks!”
Tuesday - [del]Make America Work Again[/del] “Fuck you, Hillary!”
Wednesday - [del]Make America First Again[/del] ???
I’m guessing tonight will be something along the lines of “No, really, Hillary can go lick donkey balls!”
It’s a pretty good barometer for how shitty your convention is when the highlight is a Paul Ryan speech.
Here is the full textof Ryan’s speech. I invite you to look over it and locate for us the “good reasons to supported the Ticket.” Especially ones that have some actual substance, and aren’t just warmed-over cliches. Give us the benefit of your analysis of the “ideas” that Paul Ryan blessed us with in his highlight offering.
It’s worth noting, by the way, that Ryan’s speech was masterful in one important way: it supported the idea that Trump would be a better candidate than Clinton, while only mentioning the candidate himself twice, and making quite clear that Ryan’s support for Trump was lukewarm party loyalty, at best.
I’m not trained as a reporter. I read news and expect them to do their jobs. Analyze the party’s platforms, speeches and give me the information to decide how I’ll ultimately vote. Don’t waste my time on bs about plagiarism. This isn’t a school English assignment. This country faces incredibly difficult challenges here at home and abroad. Plagiarism is a problem but it ranks pretty far down on my list of concerns for the direction of this country.
The BBC often does very good analysis. Quite balanced in criticizing Trump and highlighting his positive positions.
I was impressed by Ryan’s comments about the need for change. Pointing out that Clinton represents an era from twenty years ago. That resonates strongly with me. I don’t want to see Obama’s failed polices continued.
Ryan finds himself in the same difficult position as many voters. We dislike and distrust Hillary more than we dislike Trump. We have to choose between these two bad choices. It’s one hell of a
quandary.
I liked all of Ryan’s speech. This part resonated the most strongly for me.
QUOTE] Meanwhile, what choice has the other party made in this incredible year filled with so many surprises? Here we are at a time when men and women in both parties so clearly, so undeniably want a big change in direction for America, a clean break from a failed system.
And what does the Democratic Party establishment offer? What is their idea of a clean break? They are offering a third Obama term brought to you by another Clinton.
[/QUOTE]
Hey, it’s way worse than that. Dutch government thought police are so brutally effective, the Dutch are careful never to complain about riding bicycles to work and pretend to like it.
Let’s put the shoe on the other foot. Bill Clinton speaks at the Democratic National Convention and in his speech he directly lifts an entire paragraph from – fuck, anywhere, Anne Romney, some other Republican, some Democrat, some guy who blogs about GI Joe dolls, doesn’t matter. In fact, forget Bill Clinton; substitute in any Democrat speaking at the convention. And the Right just says, “we couldn’t care less.”
So, as a conservative, the idea that Clinton represents the mid-nineties, a period of incredible growth in our country–representing the good old days is a bad thing for you?
I’d rather judge her on her own merits, think it’s contemptible to judge her on her husband’s, but if you do, you ought to be thrilled.
We don’t think there should BE a clean break! We think the main problem with the country over the last eight years has been the caterwauling crybaby obstructionist Congress! The president has been doing pretty damn good!
This is like the silly attempts at ignoring issues like the sources Trump is using in his bigoted tweets. They should be indeed very down in a list of concerns, except that the problem is not just that, but how often it happens and the fact that Trump never sees a need to apologize or repudiate the ones that created the messages.
The Plagiarism is not a big issue if it would had been acknowledged, instead it shows again what we could expect in a Trump administration. A pathological need to ignore and blame others when Trump deals with the important issues.
Trump is also a product from that era too. And he is a guy that clearly does not care if the changes he will attempt to implement will bankrupt America, as he will come out ahead while his partners go under, as he usually does with the ones that trust his word.
What clean break do you think Trump was going on about here?
It is just a break with reality and the serious issues of the 21st century.
Woman’s question: “I’m a volunteer with a leading conservation voters group and we want to know about what your plan is to reduce pollution that is driving climate change and endangering public health.”
Trump: “That’s an interesting question. Let me ask you a question… Ok, so we have global, let me ask you this, ok to [hissing and some boos from the crowd] take it easy… How many people, how many people here believe in global warming? [Turns around looks for hands up] You believe in global warming?
Who believes in global warming?
Who believes in global warming?
Raise your hand, nobody? * One person…”
This is worse than ignorance, it is malpractice. Even professional “skeptics” tell us that global warming is happening but is natural, so the answer should had been yes, but not even that :smack:
If it was just a break with the past one would expect a good alternative, but Trump does not offer one.
And the reason da media is all about the plagiarism is that topic is fairly safe. They gonna talk about the jingoistic soldier? The heartbroken wreck of a mom who thinks Hillary murdered her son? The two mercenary guys who want to sell their heroism to the highest bidder? Criticize any of them, even in the mildest terms, and all Hell breaks loose!
You’ve heard some ideas and proposals? What channel were they on? All I’ve heard are “the terrorists are coming to get you” and “lock her up!”
Seriously, though, you’re misrepresentin’ here. The press pretty clearly seems to think Melaniagate is an amusing sideshow, and the news here is more the knots the Trump Campaign has managed to tie itself into over this trivial issue, than the initial gaffe. This is supposed to be the guy who is going to make everything so wonderful because he’s gonna hire all the best of the best, but so far, I’ve gotta be honest here, his best people are not looking all that great.
Y’know, I could understand hogging the mustard. Here in Cleveland, we have the best mustard in the world, and you just can’t get it anywhere else. Back when I lived in Montana, I had to bring back a few bottles every time I came home for a visit.
And then I looked at the picture.
What the heck? He’s hogging the yellow mustard? When they have the good stuff right there, just three jugs away?
Lyin’ Ted Cruz and Little Marco Rubio are speaking tonight. Should be interesting. I expect they will focus on Hillary bashing and not say too much about their good friend Donald.
