The Republican Party is the Party of Evil

More evidence (if any is remotely needed) of the GOP’s hostility towards trans kids and adults. And Ryan Walters is five kinds of assh*le and will probably be Trump’s Secretary of Education if he wins.

I always thought “bussing” meant “kissing” and “busing” was the correct spelling, but it turns out they’re both OK. I guess I don’t need to learn anything else new today.

Way back in the old days of papyrus and reeds, I was taught that is you want to keep the vowel sound short, you double the final letter before adding a suffix that starts with a vowel, hence the difference between “riding” and “ridding”, or “hated” and “hatted”.

Alas, those rules have evolved away, leaving such words as “canceled”, “gases”, and “busing”.

My husband is a terrible speller. I actually pulled out the short/long vowel sound “rule” just yesterday! He made some plans to send to our HOA for modifications to our driveway. He spelled concrete “concrette” 5 or 6 times! Ack. I’ll just put it out of my mind and will let him send it in as-is.

I doubt he’ll remember the rule in the future. He has other redeeming qualities, I swear! :blue_heart:

Is it just me, or does the content of that tweet not show up for everyone? I had to click and go to Xitter so read it.

Sometimes does and sometimes doesn’t. But I wish posters wouldn’t put up links (to twitter or elsewhere) without any of their own commentary. This board should be more than regurgitating other sites.

Mrs. E is knocking at the back door.

Thank you! I’m so glad there’s someone else that remembers that rule.

Did you perhaps use a phonics textbook called “Breaking the Sound Barrier” in first grade?

'Cos I’ve never met anyone who knows the “Mrs. E” rule before.

That’s Republicans for you. If rich people were expected to be more likely to vote Democratic, Republicans would be looking for a way to limit cars or check bank accounts or something. I’m surprised they haven’t already gone after college degrees.

Well, there was the whole thing about preventing the forgiveness of debts.

PSA: Senate Bill 187, referenced above, has been introduced in the state of Indiana.

Just curious. What could possibly be the justification for this? We all know the real reason is to keep poor people from voting, but what reason are they giving? Will free bus rides somehow contribute to voter fraud?

Actually, I didn’t, but it was in my little (five years younger) brother’s phonics book. It really stuck in my memory.

I’m curious too.

It will probably be something like - If we give them something for a discount, they will always want it. They need to get jobs.

The County I work for and all the towns in it has free bus service (paid by taxes of course [uh ohh]).

When election day is supposed to be cold, we will park heated buses outside of polling places so people don’t have to stand in line in the cold. Not much of an issue any more with mail in voting [uh ohh #2]

I’m proud to work for this county.

This is the modern Republican party. They probably just say the quiet part out loud.

OK, riddle me this: I have a bass is it a deep toned musical instrument or is it a fresh water fish?

I think it may be the same reason a dog licks his balls.

Because he can.

The other alternative justification might be “because fuck you, that’s why”. This is the direction the R party is going.

And then “moderate Republicans” will use it as an excuse for why they were forced to vote for Trump, because the Democrats are so evil they even oppose commonsense legislation like that.
