This is where I see the Republican party ultimately going. A minority party has to behave tribally. But first the tribe has to be defined, which is why I think they will become more and more racist. It might be anti-immigrant more so than hatred of blacks but to ignorant, bigoted whites, what’s the difference? This is why the Clarence Thomases, Herschel Walkers, and Candace Owens of the world are wrong about how welcome they are in the party. They’re welcome just long enough to depress the Black vote.

The lie here is particularly galling. George Washington believed in leaving the presidency peacefully when his term was up. The Constitution clearly outlines the process for a peaceful transfer of power after a presidential election. Newt Gingrich clearly doesn’t believe in either one of those unless it benefits Trump.
