Led by Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, 22 GOP governors on Monday sent a letter to President Biden urging him to withdraw his student loan forgiveness plan, citing its negative impact on lower-income families. Pretty much all lies; but it’s the GQP we’re talking about. I didn’t check but the Venn diagram of letter signers and Attorneys General who challenged the last election is damn near a circle.
The governors, all Republicans, argue that the lowest income Americans will be paying the debts of doctors, lawyers and professors “with the most debt, such as $50,000 or more…”

Though, Biden’s plan caps relief at $20,000 for those who received Pell grants – awarded to low-income students – and $10,000 for students who did not get Pell grants in college. Additionally, individuals who make more than $125,000 are not eligible for the one-time relief.
None of the actual facts and provisions matter, just HATE FOR THE POOR.
It’s rather galling to read that the lowest income Americans are the American taxpayers after all those years of hearing how the poors don’t pay taxes.
Once again it’s that talking out both sides of their ass simultaneously meme that Republicans have honed so well.

While the “brain-washing children” nonsense is a more recent development, it has been GOP boilerplate since it was created by Carter in 1979/1980 that the Department of Education should be abolished. Reagan campaigned on it against Carter but wasn’t able to get it past a then Democratically controlled House. Basically the have traditionally regarded it as it as an unconstitutional big government edifice that intrudes on local control.
And indeed, I was looking at the more modern iteration, with broad swipes at trans issues and anything to do with UGH minorites “befouling” K-12 curricula.
