Let me get this straight, you think that your client, one of the wealthiest and most powerful men in the world, is secretly a vigilante, who spends his nights beating criminals to a pulp with his bare hands, and your plan is to blackmail this person? … Good luck.
If there truly was such a cabal, that nug would simply disappear with no trace ever found again.
My fave part of that movie as well. I don’t think that bit actor gets the praise he deserves for his facial expressions. They convey even more than Freeman during that scene. One of my fave batman moments ever. (outside the animated series, where to me. The canon lurks.)
A prime example of the standard thinking of say the Jan6th “people” or say the ones counter protesting during BLM… “yeah no keep shooting black people with no repercussions police”… um guys I don’t think you want to attach your train to that … oh well… (on a semi related note… how do the NYPD and LAPD not learn… they’ve been horrible my entire life… wtf is wrong with them)… or that one Police department in Cali where they shut down like 80 of them all at once because they were so corrupt. That is just mind boggling.
As someone with a lot of cops in my family, other than one of them, I’ve seen similar attitudes way too often.
Republicans turned on them a year ago and its weird how they’re back to buddy buddy now… Cops forgave them for throwing them under the bus and getting them mass death threatened by their weird tiki hordes. Just boggles my mind. Screw me once… enemy for life…
Just to clarify, the theory of stochastic terrorism posits that random, unfocused terror can move a society in the direction of a fascist authoritarian takeover from the ground up. And we have seen that it works. January 6 was the Beer Hall Putsch. It won’t be the end.
Yes, I understand that, but I’m not sure I agree with it. Sure, there was a lot of random violence in the build up to the Nazi takeover of Germany, and other fascist movements, but even then, you pretty much knew who was doing what, and why they were doing it. Say what you will about Hitler and his goons, they never tried to hide who they were. Hell, the publicity was the point, it allowed Hitler to address a far wider audience than he ever would have had, if he’d just stuck to ranting in beer halls.
These modern guys go out of their way to hide who they are, and even when dragged into the light, try to deny responsibility.
“unmistakable message to the American people that their civil rights and civil liberties no longer a priority to the 118th Congress.”
Hmm, I think the repuclicans have been sending that unmistakable mesage for quite some time now.
On second thought, I think they’ve been sending the message that they would rather that some American people shouldn’t have civil liberties in the first place.
From the link, Chairman Connor defending this action:
“Let me be very clear: any topic that’s not mentioned in the subcommittee jurisdiction is reserved for the full committee,” Comer said. “We can have a committee hearing in this committee on basically anything we want.”
Left unsaid, “and it just so happens that we don’t want to have a committee hearing on anything involving civil rights.”
It’s worth reading the thread, but basically someone just did a search-and-delete to remove all references to fascism in the Virginia state history and social studies curriculum standards. They even left the gaps where the word used to be. Potential motivations for them doing so are left as an exercise for the reader.
A group of House Republicans is calling for an immediate halt of US aid in Ukraine, arguing that such support for the country’s defense in the face of Russia’s invasion is “inadvertently contributing to civilian casualties.” …
The measure’s 11 backers include some of Congress’ most vocal and far-right supporters of former President Donald Trump, including Reps. Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Paul Gosar of Arizona. Although the group represents a minority opinion within Congress, and even within the GOP, its members could jeopardize future aid packages in the House, where any lawmaker can force a vote to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
I’ve said a couple of times that I think Putin thought Trump would win, and would never allow aid to Ukraine, I mean Trump couldn’t even extort Zelenskyy. He’s pissed off at him and even said that Putin was a genius in this invasion move.
But Putin had the ball rolling and went ahead with his ‘plan’ (such that it is) anyway.
