I’d like to reconsider my suggestion, since it doesn’t quite sit well with me, even in jest. Unless their kids are adults and like the Trump-spawn, I say leave the kiddoes alone.
Good Lord! This and all the others wishing expulsion and/or harm to our fellow citizens. Is this how low we’ve fallen? And, don’t give me any crap on “What about when they …” That’s what they do, we should not only try, but actively demonstrate that we are better and get our point across by not stooping to their tactics.
It’s kind of like family. Your idiot nephew may do drugs, even engage in petty theft (or worse). That doesn’t mean you need to erase all evidence he was ever in the family. You don’t have to assist him, nor even communicate with him, but he is flesh and blood and if he is starving and you have food, you should feel some compassion to feed him, regardless of any decisions he may have made. He is a human.
You think you can pick and choose who are citizens of your country? That’s not the way it works. We are all here together. If someone disagrees with you, you don’t have to interact with them, or you can try to reason with them, or you can try to show them why their beliefs are wrong or harmful, but to actively work at eliminating them from the country is both wrong and harmful in itself. If these actions are not effective, perhaps you should consider your beliefs are not as lofty and pure as you think they are and perhaps they are not the only ones who need reevaluate their beliefs.
I was going to say, “God save us,” but I suspect that some who are atheist would actively misunderstand my hopes and use their belief (or, non-belief if you will) to reject the idea.
So, instead, I will say “Let’s hope we can save ourselves.” After all, the meaning is the same.
If they have fallen, then it’s our responsibility to help them up. There is a reason that democratic rule lasts for centuries where is it rare for fascist rule to last more than a few generations.
If you don’t believe in democratic rule (as evidenced the idea that other people in our country are not citizens, or at least, not first-class citizens), I’d have to say you are sliding toward fascism, too.
I think that bothsidism is what historians will look back on as the reason for our fall. Or rather, why we didn’t put up a fight against it.
Especially those who lie to exaggerate one side, and ignore the actual fascist actions of the other side, in order to find that sweet equivalence that they so greatly desire over reality.
You disingenuous shit. That is completely the opposite of what I am saying, and you know it. You can fight it without wanting to eliminate other humans for what they think.
You do realize that they want to eliminate us, right? It’s not over what they think, that’s just you lying to cover for them again. It’s what they are doing and saying they will continue to do.
You get it? They do want to kill us for what we think. We only want to stop them from killing us for what we think.
They love your help, in getting us to come to them with open arms so they can more easily stab us in the gut.
But no matter how much you help them, you’ll just be next.
I hope you realize that before the end, and realize just how much you allowed it to happen. Not that it will do any good at that point.
I don’t get why people defend fascists. I really don’t get why people lie for them.
I get this and I would agree with you IF there was any hint of the possibility of redemption for them. There isn’t, they simply keep doubling down. If they take full control of the country, there sure as hell aren’t going to be nice to us so I feel no obligation to consider them my compatriots.
I hear you, I really do. But the hard-core MAGA Republicans are currently addicted to outrage, victimhood and various alternate realities, just as seriously as a meth addict is addicted to meth. They can’t be helped up until they’re willing to admit they have a problem, and currently they’re nowhere near that point. Instead, they’re at the point where any effort to reach them is met with hostility and digging deeper into their addictions.
What do you do with an addict who won’t even admit they have a problem? You cut them off. That’s where we’re at.
