Well, the series is over now, and it ended just like it started: a bunch of newbies memorizing the names of the fallen from 9-11. It was a good ending.
Anyone else enjoy this show? I’m really going to miss it.

I used to like it, years ago. Somewhere along the way - I’m not sure when - it became really boring to me. It just stopped being fun. I didn’t bother even trying to watch the last two seasons.
I stopped watching a couple of years ago too, when the show became all about Tommy and his sex life. If I could have DVR’d it and just watched the firehouse scenes, that would have been great. The firehouse was the best part of the show. Tommy’s family life made the show unwatchable. But those first two or three seasons were some good stuff.
Loved it. It was all over the map - comedy, drama, fantasy, documentary - is there anything else?
Exactly my opinion.
My feelings exactly. I really loved the first two seasons, but the show seemed to lose its way. I think I gave up completely around season 4.
I think I started watching during the 2nd Season, or whenever Tommy’s son was killed by the drunk driver. I really enjoyed it up to the second last season - it seemed like the storylines had all stalled and were repeating the same crap over and over. I have to admit though, what happened to Damien was a shock. I still need to see the very last season but I’m not looking forward to it - is it even worth watching?
In my opinion “Lou” (Lt. Kenny Shea) made the show. “I don’t know about you guys but there’s a bag of chips in there with my name on it.”
I also loved that scene at the end of one of the seasons when Tommy and his Dad were at the baseball game, with the subtitles. That was really well done.
Did you guys know that the Irish Wolfhound was Dennis Leary’s dog in real life? The dog passed away not long after being on the show. I also always got a kick out of it when Tommy wore his Toronto Maple Leafs shirt.
Yeah, I admit to watching the seasons not necessarily in order, so when the whole Tommy-Janet-Sheila thing got kinda ugh-ly I tended to kind of skim it; there was at least a whole season about just how f*cked up Tommy’s life was, and that was definitely part of it. Man, there was a season…last season or the one before?..where I was sure it was just going to be ‘Let’s see how screwed up we can make Tommy’s life without him actually dying’. It got a little onerous.
This last season, though…wow. Really pulled everything together, and I loved loved loved it.
I’d HIGHLY recommend watching that, to those who enjoyed the beginning but wandered off in the middle. It’s really worth it.
And yeah, Shae really made the series. Lots of him the last couple seasons.
Damn, I might have to just start at the beginning and run through them all again…fast-forwarding through the maudlin over-the-top dramatic emo stuff, of course.
