They just beat the Jets, 16-13. John Hall, ex-Jet, kicks the winning field goal.
Good stuff!

What a great game! I kept saying to myself, “THIS is why I watch the NFL every week.”
The Jets D looked pretty good, though Ramsey was smacking em around in the first half, they came back with a monster second half. They knocked him around and shook up his confidence, I think. The Jets O looked alright, but what was up with that lameass play calling on third down (for both teams)? “Oooh, it’s 3 and 13, let’s call a screen!”
I kept going back and forth on the 'Skins. Ramsey looked good in the first half, I was very impressed. And that Ladell Betts was amazing, I think we’ll see a lot of him. But they played an awful second half.
All in all, though, it was a great game.
HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!
I am a happy happy drunk tonight.
Steve Spurrier, evil genius. I miss him. He used to be our asshole. Seriously though, he must be the best quarterbacks coach ever. There is a method to all of his supposed madness. He finds a way to get the most out of his players. Ramsey looked pretty darn good out there under some heavy pressure at times.
Spurrier really is an NFL coach though. It’s hard to imagine him having dinner with some HS defensive end trying to sell him on coming to Florida.
Damn, that really puts into perspective the difference between college and the pros.
Secondary Jets fan and Ramsey well-wisher here. My thoughts:
Vinny and the Jets looked exactly like the beginning of last season. Chad Morton’s 2 returns in last season’s opener amounted to about the same total yards as the whole offense. New season, same shit, but without the Chad. sigh
Bad similarities to last year (for the Jets) are:
Good similarities to last year:
I got to admit, I loved watching Ramsey run for that 24 yards with 1:24 left to go. And he can’t run.
My only concern is that it seems that the Jets made better 2nd half adjustments than the Skins. Whatever they did, they absolutely shut down Coles after the half.
Are you kidding me?
That was one of the worst games I have ever seen!!
Both teams looks horrible…
Ramsey will be fine… but the O line wasn’t helping him…
Trung, and betts both looked good at times though…
Aren’t they gonna change their names to the Washington Native Americans? How un-PC!
Somebody won a game when two teams were playing to lose? Incredible!
And let’s keep an eye on L. Coles to see if he can finally be a WR who jumps teams and succeeds as a premiere WR on his new team.

(I like seeing the Redskins do well, to help the NFC EAST get back to it’s glory days and the NFC EAST kickass rivalries that really define the NFL)
And, conversely, the New York Jets are now the worst team in the NFL! They’re ALL alone in last place.
Fire Herman Edwards!
Preach it, brotha.
Amazing how one man turned an entire town into Redskins fans, though.
Are you serious? He had 89 catches last year for like 1,200 yards.
Oh, this explains it.
HAIL TO THE FORESKI-- <excuse me>-- REDSKINS!
Great game, but, dear God, I hate Steve Spurrier.
I thought it was a pretty pathetic performance. The most blame goes on the play calling. What were they thinking? Had either team decided to go a bit more aggressive, it could have been lopsided. As it was, two obviously rusty teams left piles of rust all over the FedEx Field.
And Lord Ashtar, I hate to point it out, but your D has allowed far more points and yards than my beloved Vikings D. In fact, The Redskins D is currently second to last in the league in points allowed.
“Are you serious? He had 89 catches last year for like 1,200 yards.”
I think his point was that big name WRs on new teams (their first year there) rarely do as well as the previous year with their old team. Usually the 2nd year on the new team is when they come around.
Damn, you’re right. And your Vikings are in a 30 team tie for first place.
Let’s just hope your suffering continues through until at least Tuesday morning.
OTOH, ?if the SJSU game is any indication?, Zook and Strong seemed to have improved the interior defense and special teams. Which would, one would presume, be the Zook stamp on the team given his D and ST background.
Last year anyone could run on the Gators, and everyone did. Last year our kicker looked lost from game one, through the LSU debacle, until the lackluster Michigan bowl game. By the very end, there were signs of improvement.
Personally, if we can win games, contend for the SEC, and keep the football team off the A Section of the newspaper – I’m VERY happy. Zook is obviously a better recruiter than Spurrier was. He puts far more time into it, that’s a certainty. I’d sign the guy for five more years.
As for the Redskins, they’d better find a way to block a few more people. I didn’t see Steve hanging Ramsey out with five wides or anything. Two tight end sets should generate more protection than they did.
No better way to get up people’s ire than to pronounce your favorites in football! No problem from me, though, since my team has given up any hope of becoming worth a half-groat this season (i.e., the Cowboys).
Gee, if it gets too roudy in this thread, I wonder if it’ll get moved to the Pit???
Ramsey looked surprisingly good. Betts looked awesome. The PDBIPs’ playcalling could have been improved, but not bad for a first game, I’d say. The Jets looked terrible but it’s hard to blame Herm since they were obviously babying Vinnie. Trying to keep your QB a non-factor in the game is never a recipe for success.
