From the ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ credo. Always the same dish, dozens & dozens of times, at German place in Glendale called Zum Stammtisch: Goulash Soup, Bayerische Bauern Platte (Kassler Rippchen, Bratwurst & Leberkaese), a few WeissBiers and a guaranteed heart attack by 2015.
If its not a burger joint I’ll almost order the veal/chicken parm, its something I know I always like.
Chicken 'shroom sandwich from the loacl Italian restaurant.
A Focatta bread sandwich with chicken breast, italian cheese, mushrooms, fried onion rings with a peppercorn sauce. Usually with a side of pasta in tomato sauce.
Though I don’t like to always choose the same thing, so I probably only ordered the above a few dozen times over the years.
Patty melt and fries.
Cornish Pasty with Chips.
If it’s a TGIFriday’s or a Longhorns-type place, I’ll order the Chicken Caesar salad. If they have French onion soup, I’ll order the smaller salad and the soup.
For sit-down Chinese restaurants (as opposed to the buffet) I will order lemon chicken, egg rolls and/or wontons, and make sure I have plenty of water, because boy oh boy am I going to slather on the Chinese mustard. It hurts soooooo good.
Seafood…probably some sort of shrimp, and steak places a smallish steak, along the lines of of filet mignon.
Sad to say I’ve never eaten Thai or Indian.
Fast food, I’ll order the chicken, either the Chicken Sandwich (Burger King) or the McNuggets (McDonald’s). Same at Long John Silver…I like the chicken planks. Taco Bell, it’s a hard taco and a Burrito Supreme.
For fancy places, like Emeril’s or Season 52…budget be damned. I’ll order what looks good.
It’s tempting to try and sound cool by naming some exotic, elaborate and/or healthy dish, but I won’t lie. Like most 32 year old Americans, the dish I’ve ordered in restaurants most often is most likely a cheeseburger and fries.
As I’ve gotten away from fast food, though (the last three or four years), other dishes are starting to catch up. My Top 5 most frequent orders, aside from the above mentioned one, are probably:
-
“I’ll have the spicy tuna roll, the shrimp tempura roll, and the California roll. Arigato”
-
“Medium thin crust. Green peppers and Italian sausage. 45 minutes? OK, thanks.”
-
“Ribeye, medium rare. Oil and vinegar on the salaf. Can I sub steamed veggies for the fries? Great, thanks.”
-
“I’ll have the ribs and brisket combo. Cole slaw and Cajun rice. Large iced tea. Thanks.”
-
“I’ll have a beer. Got any decent brown ales on tap?”
Is that really what they’re called? Must…find…Long John Silver’s! [Hmm, Hartford CT eeh?] Like you I go for the chix at fast food…McD’s Chicken Selects are my latest fave.
Maine waiters are from Spain? Most Spaniards think canned tuna doesn’t even count as “food”. It’s like olive oil or salt, you put it there but you don’t need to specify it in the list of ingredients.
We had a vegetarian working in my factory for 6 weeks and the poor guy was on a strict Margarita Pizza diet. Another guy and myself proposed talking to a woman who owns a deli: she has customers who get their food there pretty much every day and we’re sure she wouldn’t have a problem about cooking a batch of green beans “with no bacon added”. We were too low level for our idea to be taken into consideration, though. Poor guy.
Excluding takeout fastfood, I’d say Greek–tarama, calamari, saganaki, lamb chops. galactaburiko(sp), retsina, mataxa. I used to be on the coin show circuit for 20 years and got this 10 times/year in five different restaurants in four different cities. The other side dishes/appetizers varied.
It would have to be from Pho grand in St Louis (south side)…
Mi Kho a combo of BBQ pork, shrimp and crab with vegies, egg noodles and broth on the side…oh and an extra side of bean sprouts and fresh opal basil (Hi opal)…thats the main coarse…I start with Goi Cuon, Vietnamese spring rolls and *Goi Ga *,chicken and cabage salad…follow that up with a *Cafe Sua Da *, french iced coffee…
If i was a betting man i would say i have had that meal over 100 times in over 16 years…
tsfr
I’ve had lunch at least once a week for almost nine years now at a local teriyaki joint. I’ve had pretty much the entire menu, but I’d have to say teriyaki chicken ranks #1 followed up by kung pao chicken. It’s a great little family owned place, very friendly, and the food is always fresh and tasty.
“Sierra Nevada.”
Used to be bifteki, with fries, a fried egg and a large helping of tsatsiki, washed down by a large Spezi (equal parts Coke and orange lemonade), followed by ice cream and a Greek coffee.
For about six years, 2-4 times per week, gained 30 kg (60 metric pounds) in that time (lost that weight since).
Nowadays: (tomato|potato) soup and mixed salad, with a large glass of water and an unsweetened espresso or three, 4-7 times a week
Filet mignon, rare, with whatever sides they offer. I eat the veggies if they’re good, and pick at the potatoes.
Runner up: Cashew Chicken with steamed rice, egg-drop soup, and hot tea.
I like Chinese food: Any combination of egg drop soup, egg foo yung, veggie fried rice and/or veggie lo mein.
They look like they’re from the CIA or something!
Well, what do they want?
The one wants dry white toast…with nothing on it
Elwood…
The other one wants four whole fried chickens and a coke.
…and Jake!
Menu item #18 at Bahn Thai on 13th Street: Masaman Curry with Beef. I will never know the wonders of whatever else it is they serve there…I belong to #18.
If I do McDonalds, it’s chicken nuggets and fries. Every time. Sometimes I’ll get the value meal. If I’m hungry, I get 20 chicken nuggets and the biggest fry they can muster. If I eat McDonalds for a week straight, I lose weight.
If I eat at almost any other restaurant, I get chicken fingers.
If it’s seafood, I do crab/shrimp. I would happily take anyone on in an all-you-can eat crab free-for-all. (need more hyphens?)
For Chinese food, I do shrimp fried rice, chicken fried rice, or sweet and sour chicken/shrimp (no sweet and sour sauce. I’m a soy boy.)
For Italian food, I do fettucine alfredo or spaghetti or pizza.
Overall, I’ll say I’ve had pizza more than anything else. Chicken is closest…hell, chicken might be number one.
I’m a picky eater. This is primarily what I live on.
Well considering you can’t go more than a block without going past a Thai restaurant in my neighborhood, I’d have to say Panang Curry w/chicken.
Other oft ordered meals
chicken vindaloo and samosas
sausage and onion stuffed/deep dish pizza
maxwell polish and fries
rib tips!
