The Sandman TV Show thread (See OP for spoiler policy)

This Sandman spinoff is now streaming:

I’d be curious to hear what people think.

We’ve watched two so far - didn’t realize it was a spinnoff but thought that Death looked (and acted) mighty familiar.

Enjoying it - intend to finish it this weekend.

Same actress playing Death as Sandman?

Yes -

I thought she looked…odd. And she was only credited as “Kirby”, not her full name.

Did she get CGI’d in somehow?

It looks like she is credited as “Kirby” in other productions.
Wikipedia say she was also credited that way in “Culprits” and “Sugar”

Brian

Huh. So she is. Presumbly trying to reclaim the name from this guy:

Anyway - the show is a lot of fun thus far despite the “we will confine the characters to one small locale full of quirky characters” trope. They’re not really the boys from the comic any more than Lucifer from Lucifer was, but if you don’t insist on Sandman comic book continuity too heavily it’s all good.

She’s credited as “Kirby” in the currently running Sugar series on Apple TV as well. Good series so far.

Christ. Has it really been two years since this came out. I stopped watching right before the diner ep. Just lost momentum. I liked a lot. I dislike a lot of casting changes. But of late I’ve been watching several clips.

The comics theme is: “The lord of dreams finds he must change, and cannot do so enough.”

But in the show, everything has been fast tracked. At this rate, they’ll change the bloody ending. Dream doesn’t change because he learns to love, or to express himself in a healthy manner. In the books at this point, any changes you see are because his sense of honor has been impunged upon. And his personal experiences while trapped gave him time to reflect.

EG: In the books, Dream effects the freedom of Calliope, not because he loves her or has feelings for her, but because its just the damn correct thing to do. He was her husband and she the father of his child. She’s asked for help and he gives it. After she notices his changes (Which he denies of course) she asks “Perhaps I could visit you.” and he simply says, “I do not believe that would be a good idea.”

In the show, they demonstrate great feeling and regret and the tiniest bit of hope for at least some discussion. And its very moving. It greatly touched me…but its simply too soon. Its wayyyyyy too soon.

Like I said, at this rate Dream will just up and leave at the end. Run off with Destruction to have greek coffee in some cosmic Starbucks.

As Men at Work say, “It’s a mistake.”
