The Sarah Connor Chronicles (Hey nerds: Summer Glau is involved)

Of course it does that at the price of denying the validity of the No Fate concept from T2.

But first you have to reconcile the paradox created by the jump forward that changed future pre-history… Sarah no longer died when she died, she died sometime later - judgment day didn’t happen when it was supposed to happen, either time, the critters that started the war were not completed at the same time…- there is no reason to believe that the timeline that had other agents sent back to past-future-history were sent back to that timeline.

(ouch -my head hurts)

I can’t stand magical fate fairies as a driving force in my entertainment - it’s a thousand times easier for me to accept killer robots from the future or dragons that fly around.

Probably because the robots are acknowledged sci-fi and the dragons are acknowledged fantasy, but there are plenty of people who actually believe in magical fate fairies and consider it a reasonable, realistic idea.

Seriously, let this thread die and post to episode threads.

There really wasn’t an episode thread. When someone starts a thread declaring something bad in the title, it seems too biased to be a general episode discussion thread.

That said, that thread does seem to be getting more activity so we should probably move over there. In the future, hopefully, someone will start a general discussion thread of the next episode.

There are no future threads except the ones we make ourselves.

Well that’s ultimately the problem with time travel movies, isn’t it? Either the future is fixed like watching a movie that you already know the ending to or it isn’t and you create the “go back and kill your grandfather” paradox.

I mean theoretically, John Connor could just sit around his house and jerk off all day. If he’s pre-destined to be the savior of the world, there will ALWAYS be a friendly terminator or a soldier from the future or some event that thwarts any attempt to assassinate him.
Speaking of jerking off, how does TSCC fit in with the continuity of Terminator 4?

You’re assuming there’s only one continuity and everything must reconcile in that continuity. What if the time traveler skips to a parallel universe? Then, John could either be killed or never become the leader of the humans because he spent too much time pleasuring himself. Wouldn’t he look silly?

I haven’t seen another thread on the front page since the episode aired.

When one come up like usual with the Terminator 01/XX/08 type hting, I’ll be there.

But then what’s the point? If Skynet was defeated then what does Connor care if it sends a Terminator back in time to kill him? That’s Alternate Universe John Connor’s problem.

I like it. I just thought I would mention that the address of the computer shop in the mall that John goes to in the second episode (as seen as he is exiting it) is: 1337 That place is totally leet!

My point is if one is uncertain whether one resides in either A) a single continuity universe or B) multiple parallel universes, then it is foolish to assume one or the other and bet your existence on it. Thus, future JC witnesses Skynet sending a Terminator back in time to assassinate his past self. If he decides to send a protector back, that act may either A) ensure his own continuum is maintained and he still exists or B) help out a parallel universe JC and he still exists. If he decides not to send a protector back, that act may either A) cause himself to blink out of existence after a period of time, depending on how quickly the time ripple reaches back to his timeframe or B) not help out a parallel JC and he still exists.

To cover all your bases and make the safest bet, wouldn’t you choose to send back the protector? Waiting until you observe one of your hands slowly being erased in a Marty McFly-esque manner is not really a very smart choice, because each moment you hesitate is another chance you might simply blink out of existence when the universe finally reconciles itself.

From the past JC perspective, you face a similar dilemma. Uncertain whether “no fate but what you make” is in effect, you can try to affect change in your current parallel universe, changing the future and your life in the process.

Or you can sit back and rely on fate to keep you alive. However, there’s no second tries and no reliable Marty McFly moment to tell you which is right. If you die, you’re D E A D.

Maybe…from your point of view. I don’t know tech stuff.

As soon as the Terminator went back through the time bubble or whatever I’d probably just think “meh…I didn’t instantly wink out of existance so something must have defeated it.”

Nice.

Hey nerds: Summer Glau is back and she brought the funny.

Hey, maybe we should move this to another thread.

I liked this episode a lot more than the first 2. “MY boys can shoot” was one of a few good lines. I thought that it was highly unprobable that she randomly ran into the one guy identified in the photo (Andy Goode?), but that type of thing is to be expected. (And perhaps I missed where she sought him out.)

I missed the part where the headless terminator talked to the blood scientist. Can someone fill me in? Was that discussion anything that would remotely explain how they turned buckets of blood into Frankenstein skin in one evening?

Sure thing. Basically,
the formerly headless Terminator found the scientist and drew an equation on the board. Scientist says “Woo was wrong. Thomason was wrong. Lang and Parker were close, but parts were completely wrong. And I wasn’t even close. Yes, I can do this. But I need blood and tissues.” Terminator gestures to the ice chest and says “I brought my own”. A later scene shows a bucky-ball like molecule and the scientist comments: “Yes, an artificial oxygen carrier bypasses the marrow process”. Anyway, the first two episodes were online, so you could probably check fox.com if you really care.

Oh and I can buy that Sarah had little trouble finding Andy Goode… just look him up in a phone book and follow him to work. Dossier not needed.
Ok, I’m a bit unclear on Suicide Chick? Why was she upset and sure her parents were going to kill her? Was she pregnant? Or what? And what was the deal with the black paint around the doorway and bra on the doorknob? Or is this going to be laid out in future episodes? I do understand why Cameron wouldn’t let John try to save her. They are trying to stay off the grid, and publicity would only bring around unwanted attention.

It looked to me like she had slept with a teacher or administrator; the painting looked like a cheerleader in an office with her bra on the doorknob.

I think the CGI Terminators look too shiny and artificial.

Well, DUH!
