The Saudis raised the Price of Gasoline

The raised it at midnight last night showing an absolutely Prussian adherence to secrecy. Now I got half a tank and will have to pay an 85% price increase in a few days. They raised it to US$1.40/gallon.

I’m not finding anything about it in this mornings’ CNN or Bloomberg’s feeds; any sources?

Or is this just internally in the Kingdom of Saud? And $1.40/gallon? I’m paying $3.39 here, friend. My heart bleeds.

Don’t feel bad. In Mexico it’s 64 pesos a gallon.

In Italy is 12,055 lira per gallon.

The Saudi government is saying this is part of a new policy to encourage its citizens to be more efficient in their gas usage.

But if you want a more sinister explanation, you can speculate that the Saudi government is building up its financial reserves in anticipation of a military strike against Qatar.

I did the calculations myself.

I just paid $1.29/liter. That’s close to $5/gal or 4USD/gal.

The first isn’t at all bad.

The second is not possible. The Lira stopped being a currency in 2002.

What is with this post? Just throwing out random stuff?

1 USD to Italian Lira
Currency converters still use a lot of currencies that the Euro replaced.

The metric system is a tool of the devil! My car gets 40 rods to the hogshead  and that’s the way I likes it.

Ha! Last week I got 35 gallons for just under $50 ($1.34/gal)!

I used my shopper discount saving thing from Kroger.

Gas in Middle TN right now is about $2.19/gal before any discounts.

That’s an East Coast supermarket. Does Smith’s use their cards?

I don’t know how widespread possible card use is. I’ve used the ID associated with a signup through Smith’s at King Soopers and Fry’s and it worked both ways to both gain and spend points. Never thought to try the ID at a Turkey Hill when I was in Pennsylvania last week. But in theory there’s no reason that Kroger didn’t just implement one standard across all their brands instead of making multiple versions to support.

C’mon man, I was just kidding. I converted euros into lira, just because the old Italian currency was just so ridiculous with all its zeroes.

Italian lira is nothing. The Turkish lira before revaluing was cooler. I have a 1 million lira bill around somewhere. At the time I think I valued it at 12 cents, and the next time I checked it was even smaller. They’ve since hacked off a couple zeroes and it is more stable.
