The SDMB Weight Loss Club Part Drei (three)

Quasi, I agree totally about the weight charts! When I belonged to WW, their charts said my ideal weight was something like 154 pounds or less. Well, let me tell ya somethin’: when I lost a bunch of weight about 10 years ago, I was working out 5 times a week, including a weight-training regimen, and I weighed 200 pounds (I’m 5’8", and I truly am big-boned, as my wrist measures almost 8"), and I looked good! If I had dieted down to 154, they could have just buried me!

Ging’, dear, does that mean if you and I ran into each other at full speed absolutely nothing would happen?:D:D:D

I’m sorry if this has been posted before. I’m so absent-minded that I may have posted it myself.

I have a problem with compulsive behaviors such as shopping and eating. A gastric bypass has helped enormously, but I have regained 30 pounds over the last five years.

My shrink has put me on an anti-convulsant that has been found to affect compulsive behaviors. It is called zonegran. I heard a reference to anti-convulsants used for weight loss on the national news the other night, but it was under a different name.

I totally support healthy eating habits and exercise, but maybe this information will be of additional help to some of you.

I slacked on my diet the past few days-pizza on Thursday, and a cheeseburger at work yesterday, and a glass of Pepsi last night. Oh, and a bowl of ice cream. I had to pull a double at the gym this morning to compensate. When I weighed in afterwards though, I was only up a pound.
sigh If y’all can do it, so can I dammit!

My lowest was 158 in July, at which point I thought I’d experiment a little to see what I’d need to do just to maintain my weight. Answer: continue my exercise regimen, exercise more and cut back on carbs more while traveling for business (I walk a lot when I’m traveling for pleasure), and don’t eat quite so much fruit next summer.

Now that I’m back home for a few weeks I’m dropping weight pretty well, which is nice. I did stop using BCPs to control some hormone irregularities this summer, so that confounds my experiment. I’ll go to the doctor in November for hormone level checks and will decide whether continued medication is needed at that point.

Oh yeah, Quasi, that’s been a big sore spot with me, too. I remember the old tables that used to account for small, medium and large frames, which always seemed to fit people a little better. I think those insurance companies switched over to the BMI charts because they’re lazy.

I’m one of those women “blessed” with a large frame. I’m 5’5", but wear a size 10 shoe and have a 7 1/8" wrist. My best friend in high school used to call me Mrs. Potato Head because I have a huge head. There’s just no way I’ll ever see the scale tip less than 150 pounds, as long as I’m healthy.
Oh, and I see that people are starting to post their weights. I did mine as a part of being honest with myself and taking responsibility for where I am (Gingy called me this morning to tell me I was brave. I feel special. ). I certainly don’t expect anyone else to do it, though. It’s completely and totally up to you if you want to post your weight.

Well, I’m not going to post my weight in the spirit of bravery, but rather in the spirit of maybe inspiring someone who feels like they’ve just got too far to go: 315/255/200.

200 pounds might not make any insurance company happy, but my doc says he’d be quite happy with that, and dammit, I’d be ecstatic!! Also, I’m thinking that a year or two after I hit goal, I might get some excess skin removed (I’m gonna have quite a bit), and that might take me down another 10 or 15. That’d be amazing, cuz I’ve never been under 200 pounds in my adult life! Believe it or not, my MIL and I once had an argument about that. I told her I’d never been below 200, and she said “Oh, you didn’t weigh that much when you and Ra got married”. WTF?? How would she know? I wasn’t even at my lowest weight when we got married. I was, in fact, about 220. But nothing I said would convince her of that!

I wonder if rambling on burns calories?

Well since everyone else is doing it, I might as well join in.

I’m another female with a large frame. I have dainty wrists but broad hips and shoulders. The BMI chart says my ideal weight is between 135-155. To that I say HA! I’m 5’9", there’s no way I’d look good at 155 or less. So right now I’m shooting for about 180 and I’ll see how I look/feel there.

But I’m like norinew, if I can get under 200lbs (a number I haven’t seen in quite a few years) I’ll be ecstatic!

Happy Losin’ Y’all!

Norine! YOU HAVE ALREADY LOST HALF OF WHAT YOU WANT TO LOSE!

YAY!

MissBHaven,

I don’t know if anyones given this to you, but I would highly recommend checking out this website for a Low Carb support group. I have lost 42 lbs since last Dec. and I have to give a lot of credit to the help I got from this site- especially the discussion forums.

Gingy, yeah, I know I’m halfway there, and that does make me feel good!

Smokinjbc, while I’m not exactly low-carbing, I love this site as well. I’ll even include a link: lowcarbluxury.com. They have hints and tips, product reviews, and best of all, recipes. Lots and lots of recipes. Oh, and links to online marketplaces for low-carb foods, baking supplies, etc.

You’re damned right it feels good! I’m down 50 and only have 30 to go. I feel like Wonder Woman! Only my plane isn’t so transparent and I’m not wearing a leotard covered in American symbols. YMMV.

Yeah, but where’s your magical lasso?
I hit the 20 pound mark today. Yay!

Yesterday, I fit into a skirt that I haven’t been able to wear in years.

Talk about small milestones! Yay!

I bought myself a pair of motivator jeans last week. They’re a size smaller than I’m wearing now, and they’re NOT the relaxed fit/stretchy fabric. I can just pull them over my hips and I might be able to button them if I lie down. I want to wear them on Thanksgiving - I figure 15# more will make them comfy.

I also decided to step back to Phase One of South Beach for a couple of weeks because I was getting sloppy in adherence to the plan. I didn’t gain anything back, but I stalled, and I know it’s because I was not as meticulous as I should have been. So I’m hoping a couple of very strict weeks will get me back on track. I’ll miss my fruit and pitas, but it’s all about the motivator jeans now!

31# total since July 7.

My magical lasso is firmly around Dave’s neck. Duh.

YAY FOR TWENNY POUNDS!

Checking in.

This morning I weighed. I started singing The Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah (I’m singing it in a choir in December anyway…)

I was down to 305 (!!!) which is the lowest weight I’ve been at in at least nine years.

I’ve lost 45 pounds since summer.

I’m so happy!!!

Whoooooo-Hooooooo! MIKIE****!

You go, uh, person!

Quasi

BTW, I joined that low carb luxury site. Nice colors, huh?

Nice smilies, too.

Q

I’m a guy.

So I stuck to plan all week (mostly), didn’t go over my flex points, went to the gym three times, and I lost 1.5 pounds!
