The SDMB Weight Loss Club - Partie Cinq (Part Five)

I’ve been a Weight Watcher for almost four years; it will be exactly four on June 9. Weighed in at 7:00 AM this morning and hit a milestone; I’ve lost 35 pounds! 6.8 to goal! When the receptionist told me my weight, I broke down and cried. It’s been hard work and a long haul.

And scoutbobouty, I got the ultimate compliment from my leader this morning. She said, “Gazelle, when you hit goal, would you be willing to work for Weight Watchers?”

Woo hoo!

So how’s everyone else doing?

I’m starting Weight Watchers after finals week. I’m gonna need a LOT of encouragement; I’ve got about 90 lbs or so to lose.

Congrats, Gazelle!

Robin

I weighed in this morning at 228. I stepped down a tens digit!

I started about two weeks ago at approximately 236. I must be doing something right!

Congratulations, Gazelle. You done good.

MissRobyn and Fish, you can do it!

Shoot, if I can, anyone can. I am one lazy beeyotch.

Pardon me. That shoulda been MsRobyn.

Weighed in yesterday morning @ 355. 56 pounds down since 1/7; 115 to go.

Put another way: I’ve lost a schoolkid, and now I’m looking to misplace a small, adult woman.

411/355/240

This morning: 149.5!

For the first time EVER, I’m closer to 100 than I am to 200! woohoo!

Suddenly, for the first time, it seems so do-able…

210/149.5/130

I guess I shoulda weighed today before I posted. I’m now down to 351 (that’s 60 pounds!), which means I only have 111 to go. BiblioCat, if you’re reading this, I found what was stalling me, so I cut it. Next thing you know, whoosh, there it goes. Good luck to you.

411/351/240

I’m here. Congrats on your big loss, Slim. You’re doing great.
So what was causing your stall? I don’t know if I’m in a true stall or not, or if the weight loss has just hit a slow spot. That first 70 just melted off like crazy, so I think my body has decided “No more!” and wants to stay this weight for a while.

“Slim” may be a little premature. There are pictures of my big fat butt in my FloriDope wrapup thread, if you’re curious. I got a bodyfat analyzer, and it tells me that my lean mass is 207 or so. Which means that at 240 (goal), my bodyfat would be about 13%. The last time it was that, I was probably 8 years old.

As to my stall, it was a seasoning blend I was using. I ran out of my trusty Fajita Dust that I use on my chicken and steaks, so I switched to a different one. I ate some of it every day for two weeks and the scale barely budged. I went over my food journal, and I saw when I added that lined up with when the scale stopped. I dropped it two days ago and started losing again.

The last time I stalled was similar, but with sunflower seeds. I was really sad about that – it was nice to have crunchies again for a while, but c’est la vie, non?

Way to go, Bambi and Fish! Awesome news, Gazelle. You’ve slogged long and hard for that. Ms Robyn, congrats on your decision, and good luck on your exams.

As for moi, finally some downward progress. I’m now 211.5, starting at 235.5 on Jan. 12th. Not the fastest drop of 24 pounds, but I’m happy to see a loss after such a long stall.

I think I wasn’t getting enough calories for exercising 5 days a week. Most days I was doing 1100 - 1300 calories. Late last week I added a slice of low carb bread with brekkie, plus a half a chicken/tuna sandwich to split between mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks. This puts my carb count to about 30 grams per day.

I am starting Weight Watchers today. I went over the 300 mark and have officially decided to get down to business. I am trying to get down to 150 or so. So, I’ll be hanging out with you guys for quite a while.
So, HI!

Sunflower seeds, huh? I’ve been using the little buggers quite liberally on my salads. I also use half & half in my coffee. I’ve been thinking about switching to tea and skipping the cream. I just think that now that I’m more “normal” I need to start watching the fat and calories more carefully in addition to the carbs.

That’s what I used them on – my salads. I also have started watching the calories. I started off eating between 3 - 4000 daily, but the last month or so, I’ve cut it to 1800 - 2500 a day. I managed to maintain (more or less) my weekly average loss, so I think that cutting the calories was a good thing. According to my trusty Excel worksheet (I’m such a dork), I’ll be crossing my goal around 11/11.

Every week, I endeavor to make a huge salad (fills a Tupperware Thatsabowl). Then I take a healthy, large portion in a smaller Tupperware bowl to work, with a snack bag containing 3 tsp sunflower seeds (1 POINT) and 1 oz. gorgonzola (3 POINTS). I could probably mix it all up at home, but there’s something so cool about dumping that little bag of yummy seeds and cheese on my salad. I also have a bottle of balsamic vinegar (0 POINTS) at work; that’s my dressing. A 4 POINT salad.

I used to use a little oil, but I realized that the salad tasted exactly the same without it. Sometimes I’ll put some salmon, tuna, or a sliced chicken breast (usually a 3 POINT serving) in there, too.

Bib, JavaMaven, and fellow Atkineers. My brother (also one of us) ran across this really great recipe for a cheesecake-like pudding. It’s unexpectedly tasty, and it’ll probably help some of us (Java, IIRC you have quite a sweet tooth) stick to it.

Equal parts heavy whipping cream, sour cream, and cream cheese. Vanilla and powdered Splenda® to taste.

Whip the heavy cream until it’s near hard-peak stage. Zap the cream cheese in the micro for a couple seconds to loosen it, and mix everything but the whipped cream together. Fold the whipped cream in, and enjoy! It was the first heavy, sweet thing I’ve had in 4 months or so, so maybe I’m just desperate, but it was really nummy.

That sounds great, Bambi. I’ll have to try it.
I also have a big sweet tooth, but the cravings have been cut back quite a bit since starting on Atkins.

For our anniversary on Friday, my husband gave me a 2-pound box of chocolate covered cherries, my all-time favorite. I really appreciate the thought, but at the same time I could have killed him.
I put them up in the high cabinet, so they’re hard to get to. I’ve been really good at limiting myself to one at a time.
A year ago, I would have polished off the entire box in 2 days.

Your husband is the (well-intentioned) Devil. At least he remembered which day, right?

I’ve never really had a sweet tooth. There are only two things I really miss: Wheat Thins with any sort of dip, and Chinese food. There is this extraordinarily wonderful Chinese buffet 10 minutes from my house that used to be a weekly or so visit, on top of the 2 - 3 times a week Chinese takeout I used to get. I would kill for a good bit of General Tso’s or sesame chicken right now. Oh, and my monthly trip to the Thai place nearby. No more pad thai or pad woon sen for me.

In keeping with my desire to get back in shape, I bought an elliptical machine today. Not top of the line at all, just a basic lil elliptical, scored for about $200 at Walmart. It took us 20 minutes to get it in my little Saturn coupe, and another 45 to get it to my 3rd floor apartment. I was half an hour late for work.

It wobbles. There’s nothing more depressing than a really cool piece of workout equipment that you can’t use…

I need chocolate…

Well, that was probably a workout in itself.
