The season starts Sunday at 1 EDT. And the Steelers' march to the Super Bowl begins.

Eutychus, my sincere sympathies New England’s being trounced by their “farm team.” As for you, my brother Steeler fans, around halftime I was thinking the trash talking on this board would be getting good. I’m only disappointed to find the trash talking as lopsided as the game. Wierd Dave, dear, would you like some crow to go with those Ravens?

Ms. Robyn, I wouldn’t worry about Aaron too much. You see, for as long as I can remember my father has been yelling during Steeler games, to the point where I could follow the game if I was anywhere in the house during it. Not only that, twice the Steelers played in Super Bowls on my baby brother’s birthday, which means a comparatively little boy was not allowed to make a sound during them. Not only were we left unscarred by this experience, my brothers and I developed a most un-geekish love of football. Go STEELERS!

Oh forgot to mention one thing. That baby brother of mine shares Airman Doors’ suspicion that he-who-shall-not-be-named threw the Super Bowl. As for me, it’s not the most outlandish thing I’ve heard.

CJ

Why? The game went pretty much as I predicted in my last post. I made no bold pronouncements of creaming the Stilers.

I got one question, though. On that fumble on the 5, late in the game, does anyone else think it was going to be a flea flicker? It sure looked to me like the back was trying to flip the ball back to Batch when he was hit and lost it. Weird call for that part of the field if he was.

We lost to a team that outplayed us. I do wonder what happened to our D, they didn’t play like they are capable of playing, that’s for sure. I am sure that this will cause them to pull together and play the way they’re supposed to, so it’s prolly a good thing. Our special teams finally started getting good field position on kicks, and Boller got his baptism by fire in the hardest possible way. I’m not too worried, we aren’t shooting for the Super Bowl until next year anyway. We’ll see how it goes Sunday night, week 17.

Titans defeat the Raiders. All is right with the world.

Good god, somebody’s actually gloating about beating the Ravens? I swear, some day the Steelers will finally wake up, realize that they’ve been making the playoffs thanks to winning a patsy division, and demand to be moved to the East.

Why would they want to do that? It’s a guaranteed playoff spot every year. They can get fat on the bottom feeders and save themselves for the important games.

It’s like they say-What do you call a guy that graduates last in med school? A doctor. The Steelers only have to play well enough to get in, and then the Lombardi Trophy is theirs.

Did you guys hear the extremely sad, extremely deluded trash tallking that the Ravens were doing after the game? The poor dears don’t seem to understand that they got their collective asses handed to them. So, so sad.

"Did you guys hear the extremely sad, extremely deluded trash tallking that the Ravens were doing after the game? "
Nope, got a link?

I’m a Bengals fan.

Now do realize why I hate football season?

Who would have thought you would ever heard the phrase “the wide open, pass-first offense of Bill Cower’s Pittsburgh Steelers”? Not me, but heck they looked pretty darn good. Unlike the Rams, Bengals, P-men, Jets and Cardinals which looked horrid.

Bonus points to the Dolphins losing to the Texans.

Poll: First coach fired first?

My money says Jauron gets the boot 2 weeks before Wanny gets the boot in Miami. What do you think.

All right, I was wrong. This week.

I didn’t get that game up here, so I’ve only seen the highlights. I honestly thought that Baltimore’s D was better than that. I mean, Ray Lewis is one bad mofo, and the rest of those guys aren’t exactly slouches either.

So, Airman Doors and mouthbreather, I’m sorry. I underestimated Maddox. BUT (yes, there’s a but), I’m now waiting two years for the Warner-like collapse. Unless, of course, that XFL season counts, which means next year will be the collapse.

On a side note, I got to see the NFL record for rookie receiving yards get broken. Unfortunately, Boldin plays for Arizona. Fortunately, 217 yards and 3 TDs wasn’t enough to beat Detroit. Whew.

Oooohhh… good question, with so many possibilities.

Jauron is likely, but obvious.

Wanny? He’s a little less likely, but still a good pick.

McGinnis? He’s a good coach with a terrible, terrible team. What difference is a new coach going to make to the Cards?

My vote: The Great Satan, Mike Martz. Just keep playing Warner, bucko. Great way to become an offensive coordinator again.

I knew they were going to be overrated. I mean, I didn’t think they would be that bad, but I knew their D wasn’t as good as advertised. Granted, one game proves nothing. Even advised my friend not to pick them up in his fantasy draft. He picked Miami instead (I grabbed Buffalo).

Ahhhhh! Red Sox scored more this weekend than the Pats!!!
For that matter, so did I.

tramp, that’s awesome.

I have the extreme misfortune of working Thursday, Sunday and Monday nights and therefore never have the opportunity to watch games any more. Being something of a cheapskate, I am still refusing to pay to be able to listen to gamecasts, I don’t have to for hockey, why should I for football?

So that leaves me with just a regularly updated and poorly animated and written play-by-play game with other scores updated with each refresh, but it’s not quite the same.

I despise ESPN, for various reasons, not the least of which is Pasquerelli’s “journalism.” That leaves me with only NFL.com and Sportscenter for highlights and hype, but it still doesn’t tell me the whole picture.

I want to know why Miami collapsed against Houston. Did they go in with too lazy an attitude, thinking they would just roll over the Texans or will Houston shock many this year?

What the hell happened to NE? Was Buffalo’s D that good, or were the Pats playing with their eyes closed?

42 points by the Lions?! I know it was against Arizona, but still, 42 points?! Is Detroit finally taking steps into the upper echelon of teams ranked in the low 20’s, or are the Cardinals just that bad?

Why are the Ravens still touted as having a great offense? Is it just hype or are they just not playing up to their potential? I seem to recall even the 'Skins blowing them away in the pre-season. I didn’t see the game nor do I know the specifics; for all I know all the points were scored while the 3rd stringers were on the field, but one would think that that should begin to raise some doubts about the Ravens.

And speaking of the 'Skins, perhaps someone could explain to me why everyone predicts they’ll finish 3rd in the NFC East and in the 20’s overall? They have what seems to be an excellent defense, most notably their linebacker corps and CB’s, and a passably decent offense. Is it doubt in Ramsey’s unproven ability, or Spurrier, or concern for the running game with the gap left by the departure of Stephens that causes most to rate them so poorly? I don’t see them knocking the Eagles from their perch, but surely the Giants should be looking over their shoulders, no?

Lastly, am I the only one that hopes that Parcells flops in Dallas like a just caught tuna in the galley of the NFL’s fishing boat?

Oops, I meant, why are the Ravens still touted as having a great defense of course.

So, this week’s doormats are the football Chiefs from Kansas City. After the 27-14 drubbing they gave to San Diego last week, one would expect Kansas City to play the Steelers tough. Nope. I think the real Chiefs, the one with the worst PPG defense in the entire NFL last year, will show up. They can’t compare with the Ravens defense, and we all know about the utter stompation last week was. The Steelers take this game big and tune up for the next week, where they play the (should be) much-improved but still bottom-feeding Bengals.

Anybody doubt that with their schedule the Steelers can start the season 3-0? Not here. Game four, against Tennessee, should be tough, but it’s at Heinz, so I’m not worried.

Anyway, I digress. Pittsburgh in a romp over the Chiefs, 27-10. If it’s that close. GO STEELERS!

27-10? I’ll take the bait and disagree. I smell a shootout here, and I’ll say 38-35, Pitt. The lack of Joey Porter will help Holmes run on Pitt’s D, but the lack of a D for KC means Pitt can pull into FG range in the last 30 seconds for the win.

You mean the whole Steeler team will watch the Tennessee Titans play nin the Super Bowl? How nice of them.
