The Seekers are Australian?!

They sure don’t sound Australian… at all. Are the members native Australians or English guys + girl who became citizens?

The Seekers Home Page

They are the Group who had the hits “Georgy Girl, Red Rubber Ball” and “I’ll Never Find Another You”.

As far as I know they were all born in Melbourne. The fact that they didn’t sound particularly Australian (to you) may be explained by the effects discussed in this thread.

This is a FAQ site.

Yeah. They’re ours. When I was growing up in the sixties, a Seekers tape was the only music we had on the ‘reel-to-reel’. I learned to hate them with a vengeance, but it was probably undeserved…they are actually accomplished muso’s and even now I know all the words to all the songs…urggh.

Every now and again they do a reunion concert, and they are invariably sold-out. AFAIK, Judith Durham is still doing the solo jazz circuit after the death of her husband from MN disease, and Athol Guy became a politician a few years ago.

We are one,
Yet we are maaaaaaaany!
And from all the lands of Earth we come.
We’ll share a dream.
And sing with ooooone voice!

I am,
You are,
We are Austraaaaalian!

Yep, they sound pretty Australian to me.

And Narrad, I can’t hear that song anymore without thinking of that stupid Telstra ad. Still can’t figure out what being Australian has to do with mobile phones, broadband internet or cable TV…

But it puts a whole different spin on things. In listening to “Georgy Girl” I see a mini-skirted, GoGo booted young girl walking down the rain slicked streets of London, and now I see a rough and ready suntanned young Australian girl looking whistfully into the distance as she drives her pickup truck down a gravel road swerving occasionally to dispatch qoccasional Cane toad.

Partial lyrics post

I assumed that one was 'specially written for the film?

You can take 'em as long as you promise that the carnival will really be over.
