Everyone’s pretty much echoed what I feel about the Aceveda scene. I can’t help but think that this can damage his politics… he’s gonna be distracted, traumatized, and it’s gonna hamper his ambitions.
And the picture is gonna wind up in Vic’s hands, and he’s gonna use it to get Aceveda to dilute Claudette’s power over the Strike Team.
Danny’s headed for Detective work. I say it’s a given by the end of the season. Hell, probably by episode 10.
The Bitch (Shane’s fiance’) has to go. She’s trouble, through and through. Ten bucks says that Tulips shows up again and ruins things… probably through Vic’s prompting.
And I disagree entirely with Dalovindj’s assessment: Vic is Good. He has his priorities straight… omelettes, broken eggs, all that.
And hey, that girl that Diega was eatin’ out was pretty cute. Nice ass shot, there.
I gotta say, I think that particular crossed whatever fine line they were walking along. That scene was simply way over the top, and rather poorly executed to boot. I just don’t think Acevedo would be so stupid as to not think there was another person in the house and be wary of him, after hearing “it’s not here!”, nor do I think that the other Cops would just assume they had a phony address and drive off, without confirming the address either right away…or at all, it seemed. Mackey had time to stand around in the Barn, find out that Acevedo wasn’t answering his phone, then drive all the way back over there.
Don’t get me wrong, I still love the show, I just feel that with that scene they started reaching for shock just to be reaching for it, rather than having it bourne out of the situation, like all the other shocking moments have been.
As for the home tutor, it was my thinking that the daughter stumbled upon her mom having sex with him, unbeknownst to the mom and tutor.
That was my thought too, actually. I thought she and the tutor were having sex, or would be having sex, from the minute they introduced him. And I think that would traumatize Cassie sufficiently without being molested. It’s one thing to know your parents are divorcing, it’s quite another to walk in on your mom banging some guy.
I watch the show cause my b/f likes it but after last nites episode, i will never watch it again. I’ve always had a problem with the excessive violence but now the show has turned into everything bad - child rape, old ladies being raped, cops forced to have oral sex, brains being blown out, nightmare situations, all for the sake of entertainment!?!
no thank you, i’m sick.
Count me as another who thinks Vic’s wife and the tutor are having extra curricular activities instead of him molesting Cassie.
But if it turns out that way it’ll be a pretty poor plot point because Cassie at least partially knows her father is a supercop with a temper and I believe she’d tell him.
And then laugh and laugh as VIc tortured him to death.
This episode is why I think this is the best show on television. Not to mention that the acting is phenomenal. Is FX owned by a larger network? Because this show isn’t run like most medium-low budget cable channel shows.
The rape scene was brutal, visceral. You could see the shame and panic on Aceveda’s face when he heard Mackey coming and he jumped up to untie his bonds and quickly clean himself off.
What I don’t get is Mackey’s apparent hard-on for Shane. Shane is such a monster fuck-up and now that he’s severely pussy-whipped by the bitch (which is so obvious to Vic) its only going to get worse. And damn, I liked Tavon.
My wife left the area and put on music in another room and wouldn’t come out until the ep was over. I shoudl mention that she was in the middle of baking (our kitchen opens onto the great room where the tv is.) She says she won’t watch the show again.
That was powerful stuff. And yeah to all the other comments- Vic is going to get the phone/camera, probably about the same time Aceveda firmly links him to the money train. The message was very clear through out the ep- rape isn’t just hot college coeds, it can happen to anyone.
I never thought about the tutor thing, either molestation of the sex-on-the-side angle, I just thought Vics daughter was moody. I’ma have to think about this one for a bit, but I’m leaning toward sex. Molesting a cops daughter, in his house…well, normally that’d be a bad thing. Vic daughter? Yeah, he’d end up with a tire around his neck filled with gasoline like we saw last season.
Mackey’s loyal. He’s not gonna turn on his guys just because they get a little horny.
Shane’s being dicked around by The Bitch. Frankly, I’d say she’s not even pregnant… she’s just trying to hold on to her guy a little while longer. My prediction is that, somewhere down the road, Mackey’s gonna solve that problem… probably by getting Tulips to bone Shane again and catching it on tape.
The episode was brutal…and I wish I could have seen the faces of the millions of viewers glued to the screen as it all unfolded.
The Shield really pushes the proverbial envelope…you never know what is going to happen next, and that makes for some compelling, and wild television viewing.
Holy crap! I just started watching this season, and have been impressed so far.
I sure as hell wasn’t expecting that. Brutal.
So far my only complaint with the show has been the camera-work, which seems a bit like a poor imitation of Homicide: Life on the Street. I was really impressed with the way they put Aceveda’s shock across, though. It was a fantastic performance, but the not-quite-following-the-subject out-of-sync off-kilter camera work made it much more effecting.
It’s weird too, to suddenly feel such sympathy for the poor schmuck. In real terms, he seems to be “On the side of the Angels,” but geez, he’s such an asshole. I know Vic is evil incarnate, but I can’t help rooting for him even though he’s exactly the sort of monster who, in the real world, you want to see down the oubliette.
