The Shield 4/6

Yeah.

I had the same reaction.

The first season of this show struck me as something fresh and engaging. Now, I’m just disturbed. The dark, edginess that made it so fascinating in the first season has exploded into something grim, ugly and offputting.

Honestly, I don’t know if I can watch it any more.

That was the most brutal five to ten minutes of TV I have ever watched. I can’t believe FX greenlighted that. I just started watching this season but they’ve got their hooks into me now.

I’ve never been so disturbed from this show before.

WRT the home tutor:

Does anyone else think he’s raping Vic’s daughter?

Is the smiley in the OP supposed to be Aceveda? That was hard to watch. Something tells me that a certain camera cell phone will pop-up again. . .

I was thinking the same thing…Mackey gets a copy of it, and holds onto it for “insurance” against Aceveda’s snooping.

Yep, I’ve thought all along he has been molesting her.

Re: Aceveda:

The sword-swallowing pic will become an issue later on, but I bet that Vic gets ahold of the cell phone and uses it to keep Aceveda out of his way.

To be fair, my wife blurted this out last night. It seems so obvious to me now that I’m embarrassed it hadn’t occurred to me on my own.

So, uh, what exactly happened? (Saw the FX promos but didn’t catch the show because of MulletGuy on Queer Eye).

Aceveda got “forced” to give a blow job to a toothless punk. . .

[spoiler]Really? I don’t think so. I think that Vic will get ahold of the phone and either destroy it or give it to Aceveda with the under standing of an uneasy alliance between them. I just don’t think Vic would let that pic go public. He seems to have a heart of gold deep down inside.[spoiler]

That’s what I was thinking during the very first episode of the Shield. Right up until he put a bullet in another cop’s face. Vic Mackey will occasionaly do something that results in some good, but only if it doesn’t get in the way of his ego or his greed. The man is an evil summbitch through and through. His heart is black coal and he leaves it in his locker anyway. He has been a murderer, an accessory to the murder of a minor, a drug dealer, an extortionist, a thief, and a gangster. He is a VERY bad man; don’t let yourself be convinced otherwise for even a minute.

I wonder if this is, I don’t know a “message” storyline, in that in all of the cases of rape featured; the victim isn’t a pretty blonde who was “asking” for it. I wonder how many people who felt that oral sex isn’t really sex or being forced to give head really isn’t THAT big a deal…felt after seeing Aceveda.

Of course I wanted to slap him…the first guy screamed to someone, “It’s not here…!” who the hell did Aceveda think he was talking to…and were was his back-up piece? Standing with your back to an open doorway…?

I was supprised that Aceveda, didn’t ok the funds to bring in the specialist, seeing that he had just been sexually abused himself.

I felt it was far more “painful” to watch because of who Acaveda is. A man with authority and power; an alpha male who commands respect being in a position of such utter submission really emphasized the degradation of the situation.

The scenes following the event were even more comfortable. Watching a deflated Acaveda attempting to lead his precint as usual, everyone oblivious to the shame and trauma he was dealing with.

I’ve seen lots of rape scenes in TV and movies, but somehow this one really disturbed me more than any other.

eh, I meant “The scenes following the event were even more UNCOMFORTABLE.”

I totally agree, which makes the tutor angle seem all the more “obvious”.

And yeah, Headcoat, the scenes following the rape had me in near-panic attack mode, what with Aceveda clearly being in deep shock while still having to somehow deal with day-to-day business, all without being able to break down in front of anyone. I’ve haven’t been so affected by a rape scene in a long time. You could sense his immediate feelings of shame, much like the elderly women who were similarly in denial.

For sure, that pic is going to show up in Mackey’s hands sooner or later.

I’m thinking that a breakdown of Aceveda is soon going to happen, too. Probably when Mr missing-tooth is ultimately arrested and put into the cage.

And where was the decoy squad during this episode? Hanh?

Probably recovering from the frostbite they received last episode. Those police stations are kept pretty chilly.

I am thinking that Dutch, by now pretty receptive to the “vibe” given out by rape victims who are supressing it, will deduce what happened to Aceveda and tell Claudette.
