The Shield: Season 4: Episode: 6

Previous Episodes:

1 2 3 4 5

All of the action of 24 (and more) with good acting and believable story lines!

I believe the title of this episode might be (cue music) “Shane, Shane, Shane… Shane’s a fool.”

Can’t wait. Only show I watch.

Just got through reading this week’s 24 episode thread. Amazes me that that show is so watched, with all its attendant criticism and obvious silliness and stupidity, and the weekly The Shield thread gets like 15 replies.

This show is on a completely different plane than virtually any other show (though, from what I read, there are some good ones out there). But 24?

I am still a regular watcher of 24, but at this point it is only for the comical value of the story line that is being unveiled each week. I’m sure others would say the same.

I also wonder why more people are not watching The Shield. I’m guessing part of it is advertising. FX almost exclusively advertises on FX, so if you aren’t there already, you might not hear about the other great programs being offered.

All I know is that I’m glad I’ve been with this show from day one. It would be a great show to start watching now, but when you understand the history and complexity of the characters, the show has a completely different meaning.

Three cheers for The Shield!

halfway through and no Aceveda? Betcha he comes back with a vengeance about the church intrusion next episode.

Glimmer of opportunity for Shane. I guess.

Dutch is a dead man! What the hell is he thinking? He already lives on Vic’s personal shit list, and now he asks his ex. out to dinner. Another great move by Wagenbach.

Julian’s attitude is getting very interesting, I am wondering how far this is going to go. I can’t see him quitting the job, but obviously things are going to come to a head soon for him. Will all of this pressure and pent up anger drive him back to his homosexual tendencies?

Glenn Close has the tough captain act down, but I find her performance in general to be pretty unremarkable. I’m guessing that since she is not as volatile as the other characters, that it might be hard for her to “shine”.

Whoa, AWESOME ending. Aceveda showed up after all (up to no good as usual), and the final scene between Vic, Lem, and Ronnie was chilling.

I still watch 24 because I honestly like Jack, Chloe, and Tony, and the ridiculousness of the show always entertains. But The Shield is the show with the real intensity, and it’s a shame more people haven’t discovered it.

Good call. Looks like Julian is going to help Aceveda try to oust Glenn Close from her Captain’s chair. Racial divide on the way next week for sure.

I loved the end of this episode. That look in Vic’s eye after they showed the tape of Shane was so freaking convincing.

I think they can only drag out the Shane vs Vic storyline for about two more weeks. Something will happen for sure by that time, IMO.

Good episode. No jaw droppers this week but it advanced the storyline.

If I remember last season Lem left the strike team of his own accord. Why does he want back in so badly? Especially with Shane being there. Even before the thing with the girl you could tell they weren’t getting along.

The teaser for next week makes me think one of the cast regulars is leaving in a body bag.

After watching the previews, I can only think of one way for the whole confrontation between Aceveda and the Captain to end: she finds out about his pet hooker and uses it against him. Or Vic does.
As for the Shane/Vic situation, I am more convinced than ever that Shane is a dead man. Vic can’t allow him to be arrested.

A couple quick thoughts:

  • Agree that Glenn Close’s char just doesn’t seem to shine, but partially because she’s so one-note right now. All the interesting characters have so many sides to them.

  • As much as it seems that way, I’m not convinced another dead cop done in by cops is gonna end the Shane storyline. I don’t see writers as talented as this using the same out as what started the story

  • Really way out there - but something has me tingling that Shane’s partner is going to become a MAJOR player - almost another Vic. It was him, not Shane, that had the instinct (which I think was correct, given the circumstances) to ram that BMW and give the warning. Something about that, something about him, tells me that he may actually start to lead Shane around. Either that, or he’s the one who ends up dead next episode

I got that vibe also from Shane’s partner, Army. If Shane isn’t gone by next episode I can see him going behind Shane’s back and cutting his own deal with Antwon, if only to save his own ass.

I did love the dialogue in the car between Army and Shane when Shane said he’s dealt people like this before and Army replies, “You or Mackey”? Shane really got put in his place this episode by everyone.

Refresh my memory – how did Antwoine find out about the 14 year-old girl? I don’t think I remember Shane and/or Army mentioning anything about her, but I don’t really recall…

I can’t believe we’re already done with Episode 6. This season has flown past – so much going on! I love it!

Another terrific ep.

Yes, this post is solely for the purpose of getting post-traffic up for a great series.

I was just asking my wife that last night. IIRC, they don’t say…which may mean there is ANOTHER mole working for Antwan in Farmington.

I believe Antwoine said that the mother gave her up! When he came to the warehouse to shoot her, he said something like “it’s amazing what someone will do for a fix.”

Finally caught up on the season. One little vacation and I’m three weeks behind.

I like how Wagenbach is willing to stand up to Mackey now. Wyms has been pretty laid back, but she’s too good an actress to not give something meaty during the season. Close is still fleshing out the role of Rawlings, but the same applies to her. Maybe this new killer from San Antonio will give her something to work with (as long as it isn’t the cliched female cop being beaten/raped storyline - that’s been plumbed too many times).

The language, the violence and the fact it plays on a cable network with little promotion outside of a very few spots on Fox hurt this show vis-a-vis 24. 24 is a comic book and the writers are out of ideas designed to fit the premise. The Shield is more open-ended and can let stories and relationships develop over time.

I love this show… I can’t even begin to guess whats going to happen. I could definitely see Army going behind Shane’s back with Antwoine.

I still think Shane is eventually going to come back to Vic for help. If he does that, he’ll survive. If not, he’s a dead man, probably by Antwoine or Army.

I see a lot of the same hardcore people here in the 24 and **Deadwood ** threads.

Good episode.

The one thing that bugged me was the preacher. How is he not responsible? Some bangers give you a connection to a Salvadoran candle dealer, and you’re not suspicious? The bangers double check the candles, and tell you the candles you can’t use, and you’re not suspicious?

Dutch hitting on Vic’s wife, I can see. He thinks he really had a moment with her in the last episode, and he also figures he is getting griefed anyways. He just doesn’t know that it can get much worse.

The “LA Times” crowd showing up for the auction. LOL

The Julian story line is not working for me. Just too sudden and unwarranted. The house that was seized was paid for by drug money. The church he did not want to do the raid on, did end up having a lot of drugs inside. Nothing they have done so far has crossed the line. The Captain asked him to think about setting up a legal fund for cases where it might be done unfairly.

It could have been done so much better. Maybe Mackey is questioning an innocent guy who might have witnessed Antwon doing something but doesn’t want to get involved. Mackey ‘finds’ dope in the guys car, and seizes it to pressure the guy for info. Mackey asks Julian to back up his version of the drug bust. Julian sees that the seizure policy is being abused by guys like Mackey, just like he was afraid of.

Perhaps we’re not supposed to sympathize with Julian and Aceveda in this case. Me, I see Aceveda as the villain.

I dunno, the whole “two or more gang members associating in public will be arrested” thing is pretty f**king egregious, and Julian was not a fan of it at all.
