The impression I got was that he was disgusted with killing the cat. His motivation, though, was when the rapist said, “You can’t help me” because Dutch couldn’t understand the rapist’s motivation.
This is Dutch’s raison d’etre, to understand the perpetrators, and would be the only reason for doing what he did.

No, no, no, you don’t understand the character at all.
Dutch is cerebral. He believes that if he can understand something, he can conquer it. Well, he got defeated by the Cuddler in that interrogation room, because he didn’t understand it.
Well, Dutch just tried to understand. He goes through these mental-torture funks whenever he comes across an obstacle. Like the Dom/Sub murder team he tried to take down last season, or the overweight murderer.
If this makes you guys hate Dutch, well then, I fear for your very souls (well, okay, not really…)
And Vic Mackey is a great guy. So there.
While killing the cat makes perfect sense to Dutch and Dutch’s character I couldn’t stand the one where he went to his car and sobbed beause the killer called him a bad name.
That was so against Dutch’s character that it was insulting.
So, Dutch would not have killed a cat . . . say . . . 10 years ago because he would of thought it a cruel and immoral action. Now he has been driven to kill a feline because he couldn’t “understand” a psycho rapist/muderer. That sounds like corruption of his moral code to me. I mean, where does it end? If he still hasn’t figured it out, what’s next? Rape and cuddle? Murder? You know, not because he’s bad or corrupted, but to ‘wrap his head around it’. Maybe he gets on the web to try and get excited by kiddy porn and rubs one off, you know, just to understand his opponent. No, I understand Dutch all to well, and you making excuses for his repulsive actions helps me to understand a bit more about you . . . :dubious:
As per your boy Vic, well, maybe I’ve just seen too many people abused by dickhead cops drunk on power. I’m of the opinion that Law Enforcement agents should be held to a higher moral code than the rest of us. When the people we give power use it to abuse others and make themselves rich off of pain and misery, well, my stomach turns. It makes for great TV, but I find Vic Mackey totally unsympathetic. I root for his painful demise, and no matter how many ‘bad guys’ he gets off the street, to me, that will never justify the evil he has done in the world.

No way. He is a wuss at heart, and that guy owned him. All of the weakness that he pointed out in Dutch were spot on. The fact that the killer made a mistake himself didn’t take away from the fact that Dutchy-boy got raked over the coals. Maybe if he had a spine he could have held onto his morals. . .
