Oh yeah, thanks for having the energy. ![]()
I heard the Grim Reaper was actually aiming at a quail.
That was good!
It made me laugh. Join you in that handbasket?
Christopher Scholtes left his 2-year-old daughter to die in his driveway, and his other two children unattended, to play video games, after being seen on camera shoplifting beer. (And their mother is/was an ER physician!) He also had a teenage daughter at the time who had type 1 diabetes, and he would do the same thing with her when she “visited.” And he was allowed to bond out, and even took a trip to Maui with his family in the meantime!
He was found dead today, when he didn’t show up for his sentencing. It’s presumed to be a suicide, but authorities do need to do their jobs. Guess at least he can’t bamboozle another woman into siring some neglected children with her.
It’s nice when the trash takes itself out.
Thanks for the post. I watched it last night.
When I saw that literally hundreds of reporters and other non-law enforcement bystanders showed up during the standoff, all I could think is that he could potentially have taken out many more people than he actually did.
This is a milder suffer in hell given some of the people in the thread, and yet:

There are two reasons I pretty much hate this guy:
- Not only did he and Crick rely on Rosalind Franklin’s famous double helix photograph without her knowledge, but he mocked her in his autobiography and never gave her credit for her contributions.
- All the shit he said about race and genetic determinism later in his life. Fuck him.
We revere scientists and believe their hagiographies all too easily sometimes.
The obituary on James Watson everyone should read is the one by Sharon Begley. What makes it particularly notable is that she died four years ago, but made damn sure she got the last word in.
This is shade-throwing at boss level.
It was obvious that things were not going to change.
And it is impressive how well she captures what drove him and drives many others, in many other fields. “I bet big against conventional wisdom, and was right; ergo that must always be the case.” And then the total lack of sense of irony in assuming you’re now owed the role of being the authority who can gatekeep the issue.
