The Simpsons 01/29/2012 (open spoilers)

Well that was an interesting story structure. I didn’t much care for the Bart/Milhouse subplot, but I loved the whole story of the rag over time. This was definatly of the better episodes in a long time. What’d anyboby else thing?

i thing it was OK. i like non-canonical episodes.

Just for giggles, I ran the opener in slo-mo, and they made a goof in the Honeymooners segment - the light switch was the wrong type. It was also amusing to see that Marge was texting with one hand as she hits Homer in the driveway.

They missed a chance for a real “eeeew!” joke when Milhous pulled the rock from his throat and labeled it as quartzite. He should have labeled it as tonsolith.

How many people younger than 35 or so might have caught and understood the Dancing On The Ceiling reference?

Nasty corn chowder!

Not me. I got that it was a parody of something, but not knowing what that scene was left humorless.

I thought it was a pretty bad episode overall. A story about Moe’s bar rag? Really? That’s truly scraping the bottom of the barrel for a plotline. There were a few lines by Jeremy Irons that made me laugh, though I forget what they were.

And yeah that soup bit was nasty! That was really gross.

I’ve been a Simpsons fan from the beginning, and even weathered the truly terrible years but stayed loyal; and episodes where the characters are playing others (historical, Treehouse of Horror, etc) are really my favorites, but I must say: this was absolutely one of the least-enjoyable episodes for me, ever. Complete fail, no laughs at all.

And I never post in episode threads…it was that bad for me (recognizing that others’ taste can be different).

don’t get so picky like those nerd fans are about Big Bang Theory. they can sure knock the fun out of that show.

bar rag out of wool, not likely, can’t wipe up aqueous liquids.

it was just a vehicle for a non-canonical episode which they do so well, placing the characters in another reality.

I would’ve liked to have seen the rag’s “image” at the end, but I’ll assume it faded over time.

Moe’s part yeti?

Maybe he was just raised by the yeti – like Lucan was raised by wolves.

I’m not a big fan of the “whacky history” Simpsons episodes. And the Bart/Milhouse side plot seemed like it belonged to a different episode or something.

he gets to be trolls or lowest animal forms in these fantasy episodes.

even in real life he’s often an undesirable foreigner.

They’ve done plenty of episodes about supporting characters, but I didn’t think we would ever see an episode centering around Moe’s bar rag. That was kind of an obstacle. I thought the bigger problem was that this one felt like a lesser version of “Rosebud” (the one about Mr. Burns’ bear, Bobo). When you combine those two things you have an episode that isn’t very compelling. They’ve done this Bart and Milhouse thing before, too, even though it might be a necessary correction to the way their relationship skewed over the years. I think my favorite parts were Mr. Burns as the Duke, and Homer going off to fight in “Stupid Flanders.” It’s been kind of an up and down season, and maybe not as good as last year- although the best ones from this season have been very strong.

I got it. I was 6 when the video came out, but I think I’ve probably seen it more on “I love the 80’s” type shows then actually seen it on MTv. However, can very clearly remember seen “Hello” on MTv quite often even though it came out earlier. If Lionel wasn’t in the background it would have taken me an extra second to figure it out. But I very clearly remember the video and how ‘clunky’ it was as he stepped from the floor to the walls (you could tell he was waiting for the room to rotate) and they did a good job of replicating that.

Yeah, that was crossed. I actually turned away. Not much grosses me out, but that did. Also, this is one of the first times I’ve ever watched an episode of the Simpsons and said “Well that was awful”.

I thought he was going to add it to a collection of “Things I’ve Choked On”.

You must’ve missed the one where everyone’s eyeballs started falling out. And no, it wasn’t a Halloween one, or other “non-canon” type of episode.
