The Simpsons/Cleveland Show/American Dad!; 18 April 2010 (open spoilers)

Hmm, everything else is new, but Family Guy seems to be a rerun.

Pst…it’s the 18th. >_>

Anyway, the B plot of the Simpsons is confusing me.

  1. Is Bakugan really popular enough to warrant the parody, let alone the ‘drugs’ analogy?
  2. ‘It makes Digimon look like Pokemon’? Seriously, guys? I loved Digimon, but there was never any chance of it being a Pokemon killer. (As evidence I present the fact that Pokemon is still around, and I doubt anyone Bart’s age even remembers Digimon.)

Whoops! :o Also Cleveland Show is a repeat too. :smack: The Simpsons was pretty good. I actually enjoyed both plots.

Not a bad episode, but a retread. Homer + Wiggum = Friends is the same thinking as Bart + Ralph = Friends.

I did like some of Homer’s arrests

See his arrest record here

I love the “expried Social Security Number” misdemeanor charge

Hee hee. “Strangling a Minor.” “Unlicensed Snowplow.” “Burning Man-Bra in Public.”

Nice, however, I’m a little melancholic about the advent of freeze-frame gags that cannot be read without HDTV reception.

(I didn’t actually try, but the impression of the computer I got in that scene was just little squiggle lines, not ‘I bet I could read that if I freeze-framed the DVR’)

:frowning:

(Do I need a standard disclaimer every week to say I only watch the Simpsons?)

I thought both plots of the Simpsons were pretty funny. Chief Wiggim and Homer dynamic was pretty good and wasn’t used since Marge did the Thelma and Louise bit several years ago.

The resolution to both plots were kind of abrupt and I think they could have done more with the Battle Balls and/or Marge mistakingly thinking they were drugs, but it seems like they barely touched on it, then Bart flushed them all because Marge thought they were kind of cool.

I thought it was more like the one where Bart became friends with Nelson, which was an excellent episode. But they’ve covered this ground a couple of times before. This one was okay. I liked Wiggum saying Homer’s drunk and disorderly behavior at Moe’s was understandable “because [his] sports team lost.” I really prefer Wiggum as the corrupt and venal cop to the guy saving the day, so I wasn’t crazy about the ending- although I did like the fact that he stayed corrupt while being friends with Homer. The Bart story was short but I thought it was good.

I fixed this.

It’s not an analogy, it’s a joke about Skinner being paranoid.

You realize most of the people watching the show (certainly me) have absolutely no idea about the intricacies of Digimon, Pokemon, and this Bakugan thing I had never heard of until just now, right? The joke is that it’s a comparison with no frame of reference.

“We think Bart may be dealing drugs”

“No! He doesn’t have the math skills”
Funniest line in the whole episode. Although I didn’t like the companion line of “I’m not on drugs, not til you raise my allowance”. I always figured Bart as a precocious little scamp who did pranks and stuff, but no real harm. As a person who is against drugs it kinda made me sad to think that Bart would do them…since that’s not really his bag. Not saying that that’s what the writers intended or would ever send Bart that way (at least I don’t think he has before, but then again I’m not well versed in Simpsons history) I just didn’t like the fact they left the door open. But that’s just me…

Future Bart was a pothead in the “Lisa Simpson, President” episode.

Agreed.

Really? I had no problem with this. I can’t see how it’s a big deal given that they’ve had so many episodes that imply Bart’s going to be a loser. It’s not like it would be out of character for him to do drugs at some point. It’s not like he is going to be Jimbo, Dolph and Kearney, who are teenager stoners while still in elementary school- and Kearney has a kid. By the way, did anyone else notice that the group of bums included John Swartzwelder?

If Bart never does a little weed in his life time, then I never knew Bart.

I know it wouldn’t be out of character or anything…and I do now remember the dreaded “futures” episode. But I guess I’m just old fashioned and want the people I like (fictional or non) to end up being the best of themselves.

I clicked the link in Markxxx’s post. It was quite easy to read on my PC screen.

Although, I do feel your pain. I doubt I could have read it on my TV screen, either.

Wasn’t it implied that Bart tried the “reefer” in season 18’s “Jazzy and the Pussycats”?
