The Sims 2 - Nightlife

I know this is a bit early as it’s not being released until 9/13 at the earliest (according to posted dates on various sites) but I would love to discuss it with people who will not have me wanting to poke out my eyeballs due to net speak.

A couple of the things I’m most excited about so far:[ul]
[li]Vampires - At night, their needs don’t decay. Out in the sunlight, they decay rapidly and can die from overexposure. Can change into a bat and fly, even over objects. Vampirism is spread virally, but they can be married and can reproduce. [/li][li]Cars - Sims can finally drive! If you can only afford one car but have multiple Sims, the regular carpool will still work as normal. You can go to work late and even drop the kids off at school. You can choose between a Hatchback, Sedan, Pickup, Minivan, or Sports car. New build tools will include a new feature to create driveways and garage doors. You can actually have a garage attached to your house![/li][li]Pools - You have much more control over the shapes than plain old standard rectangle that you can’t expand on without much aggravation. [/li][li]Sectional/expandable sofas - I don’t know why, they just make me happy. :D[/li][/ul]
What info do you have to add?
what are you looking forward to most?

It just saddens me that about half my Sims will never know the pleasure of driving as I’m sure they’ll be dead long before Nightlife is released. :stuck_out_tongue:

All this, and yet they still can’t do laundry.

Bet you were one of those asking “where’s the light switch?”

I’m a little leery of the new dating game it will have. I wonder if it will work like a Throw Party game where you have your 5 minutes to do your thing and then it’s over.
On the plus side, there’s a matchmaker to help you with your date.

I’m also looking forward to ‘Nightlife’!

The main things I’m looking forward to:

  1. Vampires, rowr!
  2. Horoscopes having an effect on dating. This sounds great! Irl, sometimes a perfectly nice person just rubs you the wrong way. This will make the game much more interesting, challenging and realistic imho. Now, I pick people based on my own desires (‘you might make red headed babies - you’re getting hitched’. 'you’re rich and handsome and she’s my favorite Sim so she receives your studly body AND your big house)* With Sims actually having more preferences, it’ll make it more the Sims choosing and not me. (Though, knowing me, I’ll still be manipulating matches more than letting Sims find each other)
  3. The new aspiration (Pleasure). Finally, an aspiration that describes me! A mini ‘Lady of the Lake’ will be on her way!

So, yes, I’m pretty excited- more so than I was with University!

I should be fully into the next generation when it comes out, so I’ll be leaving a few of my young Sims unattached to try out the system. So far I haven’t gotten too many of my families future arks planned yet, so until September will be plenty of time to finish it up. I’ve only got the love triangle between Lilith and Angela’s boys (they each had one son - mortal enemies they are) and the (to be born shortly) lovely Lothario** lass planned out.

  • I’ve had interesting results planning things out. I purposely kept Alexander Goth free until University, hoping a beautiful, charming woman would keep him from mooning over books. Madeleine was a pretty blonde: charming, a natural friend maker, a family Sim always rolling up wants for Alexander. Alex would roll up wants for food, study and new people he’d met. So I made her into a romance Sim after sophomore year. It’s not like he’d notice, right?

They married, moved into a gothic castle and popped out twins. Scary, mini-Alexander twins! (Even though one is a girl, they both look like Alexander as a child). I love Apollo and Diana to their scary and nerdy toes anyway, but geesh my Pleasantview will soon by overrun by Mortimer’s nose and Brandi’s prodigious progeny. This was certainly not something I’d planned, I had thought Madeleine would soften up the Goth heritage not be steamrolled under…

(Ignore the ** after Lothario. I was going to explain that they’re not actually related to Don, but eh, I’ve already babbled on enough.)

Sheesh, I’ve had University for only a few short weeks and there’s already a new expansion in the works.

I’m not really keen on the new dating system. Some of my sims are total horndogs, and I’d like them to continue seducing anyone and anything they can. Not to mention the more normal hookups that are part of planned story arcs.

I’m also kinda wary of the vampries. On the one hand, they sound really cool. On the other hand, I’m concerned that vampirism may be too easy to spread. I hope there are either certain controls to it (ie, it only happens if you specifically choose the action), or possibly even way to reverse it.
Hmm… I wonder if there’ll be a new action, “Put stake through heart.”

I also hope the new expansion will let sims turn off or even get rid of their cellular phones. grumbles Rotten little pain-in-the-butt stalker friends, waking my sims up in the middle of the night…

I wouldn’t fear!
According to the transcript:

One thing I forgot about: being able to see the neighborhood around your house. No more looking like they live on a plain!

Are they going to add rugs? And more curtains? I hate the curtains they have now, and placing different colored pieces of carpet and wood together just doesn’t have the same look that rugs do.

I will probably buy it, but I’m not completely sold on it yet. I do like the idea of a pleasure aspiration.

I’ll probably break and buy it, but I wasn’t too impressed with the Uni pack. College in itself was pretty uneventful- there aren’t weekends so your sim is constantly working. They only reason my sims go to college is to get the extra aspiration slots.

But, yeah, I’ll probably crack and buy this. I’m weak.

Rugs; YES! We are getting rugs.

Additional curtains, I don’t know but I fully agree. I like the floor-to-ceiling windows, but the curtains just don’t look right on them.

If it makes anyone’s day, Mrs. Crumplebottom is back.

For anyone not keeping up with the official site, Nightlife is like a new Hot Date but with loads extra. Like a bowling alley, poker table, and from the site:

There are various hacks and mods at modthesims2 that can take care of that annoying problem.
If you just want to get rid of it yourself, you can try using:

boolprop testingcheatsenabled

There is an option in that pie menu to add or delete cells, mp3 players, and the handhelds.
There are some options in there that can mess up your game if you don’t know how to use them (it’s the programmers ‘backdoor’ cheat) but there are a lot of useful things in it too that are safe.

For anyone who hasn’t used this before here’s how to bring it up:
While you are in a lot, hit Shift, Ctrl & C at the same time to bring up the cheat window.
(FYI: Typing in Help at this point will bring you up a list of cheats and descriptions of how to use them.)
Type in: boolprop testingcheatsenabled true
This activates the cheat.
Hold down Shift and click on the Sim. You will see a pie menu with all sorts of options. I’m not sure which page of options the cell one is on, but you can just Tab through the pie menus until you find it.
Once you’ve got your Sim like you want them, make sure to turn the cheat back off:
boolprop testingcheatsenabled false

If you want more info there are various threads over at the official Sims2 site that go into detail about how to use it. There are also more options if you hold down Shift and click on your Sims’ mailbox.

I’ve used this cheat twice to force an Alien Abduction on poor old Gardener Leo so I could have alien babies.
I also found it very useful when I accidentally made one of my Sims a Romancer instead of giving her the Family Aspiration I intended. :smack: Talk about your major screw-ups!

Got new screen shots that show a lot of the new Nightlife stuff, including lots of great screen shots of vampires. http://simsworld.free.fr/pages/jeu2/nightlife/rencontre2.htm

The vampire Sims’ icons are a trip!

I have no idea if they are using the cheat to increase the number of Sims you can have control on a lot, but a lot of these shots show as many as 10 Sims to choose from.

OMG!!! Nightlife is teh kewlest!!11!one

Okay, so I’m not so great at that.

Looks like Nightlife will be out just in time for my birthday! And I already told my husband I want to have my tattoo recolored for my birthday. Guess I’ll have to ask mommy or daddy.

Not too excited about the vampires. Everything else looks pretty cool though. Any chance that we’ll be able to drive the cars to our friends’ houses or walk over to the neighbors’ houses? Probably not.

I’m guessing we still won’t be able to put our leftovers in the refrigerator, either. Perhaps someday my dream will come true.

From all indications, no. :frowning:
You can in Bustin’ Out for the Xbox (drive & visit) so I was really hoping they would incorporate it into Nightlife.
Maybe the next expansion.

That’s a great idea for the leftovers, though. I was thinking just last night it’s a shame when you have a Sim serve food in a two-person household all that food goes to waste. I agree, they ought to let you ‘save’ the leftovers by crediting them back to the Food Supply or let you denote how many meals you intend to serve from the get-go. They could add it to the pie menu like:
Serve Food
…Serve Hamburgers
Then a pie menu with options to …Serve 2, 3, 4, etc.

That’s an excellent idea. I’d love to be able to choose the number of meals served from a group meal. I’ve gotten so if it’s a two-person household that’s short on cash, I have them each make an individual meal for themselves rather than do the group meal. It’s so wasteful otherwise.

If we could put leftovers in the refrigerator, there could be a “leftovers” choice on the “serve dinner” menu. After a while, if your sim didn’t eat the leftovers, a green cloud could emanate from the refrigerator when you open it, and you would know that your leftovers had become a science experiment. The sims could then make a nasty face when they have to open it and wash the container. Knowing the sims creators, I’m sure they could come up with something really good if you left it in there for a really, really long time—monster jumping out of the frig or some such.

I hate it that there are features for the Xbox and other console games that there aren’t for the PC version, and there are features for the PC version that aren’t on the console games. Yes, we have an Xbox, but I’m not about to buy two versions of the same (or very similar) game. Though that’s probably what they want me to do, evil geniuses that they are.

How true-to-life. :stuck_out_tongue:
I swear this happened to me just the other day.

That’s why I got married: so I can make him open the science experiments in the frig. Don’t tell him though. He thinks I married for love.

Just this morning I was cleaning out leftovers from the fridge (stuff left from back in May  ) before I got on The Sims 2 website and found that they are now taking pre-orders with a ship date stated as 9/13 on two of the sites they link to: ebgames.com & gamestop.com

Meh. It does give you the option of picking your pre-ordered game up from a local shop, so maybe.

More on this from the videos I’ve seen.
It is a timed game, but unlike the Throw Party option the length of time for your date actually depends on how well it is going.
Crappy dates end quickly, while if you’re having a good time it could last until the wee hours.

Also re: Matchmaker
If your Sim catches the Vampire (gets bitten/kissed  ) the matchmaker can turn your Sim back to normal…I guess like the old hoodoo lady in Old Town in Unleashed could fix your old Sims. You know, it’s been so long since I fully played The Sims I can’t quite remember exactly what it was she fixed. :frowning:

Exactly. I was going to hold out, but vampires? and (finally) cars? I’m there. Maybe I can wait until xmas. Maybe.
