the Sing yer li'l ol' heart out MMP

I found out about an unexpected (to me, at least) side effect of fighting a gasoline tanker fire.

Smokeater SIL was called to work the big tanker fire that balled up traffic for hours yesterday. After being on scene for five hours, she finally gets home and had to deal with getting the smell of gas out of her head.

From what I saw on the news, it was pretty spectacular - gas poured into the storm drains and jets of fire were shooting out of the sewer grates for about a mile along the freeway. The road is still partially closed.

Anybody miss me?

No?

I thought not… :frowning:

Anyway, I’m back from 2.5 weeks of internet-less vacation, and here I am.

Happy Birthday TVMan, and yay, boo, wow, gropes etc… to everyone else.

Also - Hi Spaz!! Long time no see!

It happens with any sizeable fire, with about any kind of fuel except for propane/LPG. I get home from one and head straight to the shower, and when I’m done whatever I was wearing goes straight to the washer. Doesn’t do anything for the black snot, however, and I smell it for about 2 days afterwards.

Peptoid mints are very popular with those people who have to deal with decomposing bodies, FWIW.

Welcome back, Nooner. Did you get me anything while on vacation?

I didn’t know we were supposed to be shooting at you. We could; but I thought you were on something currently defined as “our side”. :stuck_out_tongue:

And just a little Vicks Vapo-rub in the nose hairs.

Don’t ask.

But it works like a charm.

Of course I am. That’s why you didn’t miss me. Don’t you know that the most accurate form of firing at people is… Friendly Fire…?

**Bobbio **-- if I get you anything it will be from when I’m not on vacation… I mean, you’d prefer a memento from the Holy Land to a bauble from Walmart, no…?

I knew I was forgetting the other trick of the trade. A trick that I’ve been fortunate enough to not need, knock on wood… :raps knuckles on top of head:

Iff’n you want to get me something from the Holy Land, howzabout a splinter of wood from ‘The Real Jesus Cross’[sup]tm[/sup]? It would look real good next to the ‘dinosaur egg’ my then 7 year old wanted, which is really a hand carved and polished piece of onyx the size and shape of a chicken’s egg.

I’d love to have a whole collection of dubious ‘authentic’ relics and souvenirs. Suggestions on other items to obtain welcomed…

That’s ok, no one missed me either!

AFAIK, she handles the black snots with a neti pot. Apparently it’s not enough to combat gas.

You got it.

I love Chick-Fil-A, too, but I always want it on Sunday. I’ve threatened to go buy a sandwich on Saturday and put it in the fridge for Sunday.

I went to a Christian college. My majors were Church Music and Secondary English Education. I am now currently doing neither…

We take Angel, our pup, tomorrow to be neutered. I know it has to be done, but I’m a little sad, worried and nervous. And my daughter wants to go watch. She got to see a spay surgery a couple of years ago at the same place, but ddn’t get to see a neuter. She said the only thing that was disturbing was the boys at the camp were playing with the removed testicles.

Back in my poor freshly-married-still-in-college days, a friend and I made some extra bucks on the side bagging “over due returns” for a couple of the counties around here. The regular county employees would call us on ones that they couldn’t handle and pay us as sort of sub-contractors. One still pops up in a nightmare now and then - an older fellow who died in November (with the furnace set around 85) and found the following August. He was something of a recluse with no close neighbors and his bills were handled automatically by a third party. First indication of problems was when the mailman couldn’t get anything else through the mail slot. Lets just call it “bone soup” and leave it at that. <shudder> I kept a little touch of Vicks in my nose for the next week after that one.
Sometimes, thinking back, I feel like Larry, Darryl and Darryl ----- I’d do anything for a buck.

Of course we missed you **Nooner! ** Soapy, you know we always miss you too!

Work is irksome, but whatever.

I made my travel arrangements for my trip to San Antonio, TX next month. I leave on the 12th and return the 18th. It’s for training; I really don’t want to go, but at least it’ll be out of the way. What really sucks is that I’ll be gone on my husband’s birthday.:frowning:

Hugs, gropes, kisses all around. I’ve got a shitload of work here.

Got my appointment. Now I’m waiting again.

But our aim’s improving!

If you didn’t miss me, then you hit me… so it seems your aim is just fine! ouch

Happy Tuesday, y’all!

I’m kind of tired today, and woke up just the teeniest bit congested…I hope I’m not trying to catch something. It’s probably just stress: right now it looks like my project will be ending on 10/15, and I’ve been pretty good at being in denial all month (with a plan to start job hunting right after Labor Day) but I’m starting to think that the situation is subconsciously stressing me out. Meh.

My friend with breast cancer had her mastectomy on Friday, went home on Saturday, and was back online last night. Yay! She’s still waiting to find out whether the cancer spread to her lymph nodes (which would mean chemo/radiation), so I continue to keep my fingers crossed for her.

I also have fingers crossed for my friend Bob – the other one with a dog named Gracie  – who had an outpatient heart procedure today: he had a heart attack on Memorial Day, and the docs haven’t been happy with how he’s done on just medication so this was his second surgery to unblock/fix his arteries. This one should be it…I’m hoping to hear from him when he gets home tonight.

LOL! Yeah, there have been several times when I’ve been out and about on a Sunday, passed a Chick-Fil-A and started to get happy, then remembered. That bit of self-righteousness always bugged me a little, but I think they made up for it: when I went through the drive-through on Friday my dog was in the car with me, and when the guy at the window saw her he offered us a dog biscuit (!). I think that any place with dog biscuits at the drive-through window is OK in my book, even if they get a little uppity on Sundays.

I’m still here. :frowning:

Howdy Special1 and welcome back! Was that enthusiastic enough for ya?

The only thing I like about Chick-Fil-A is the chicken nuggets. The sammiches are terrible IMNSHO.
