The Six Million dollar Man

Anyone know where I can find tapes of “The Six Million Dollar Man” or “The Bionic Woman”?

I recently found a “Bionic Woman” vinyl wallet that I had when I was 6 or 7. It was empty except for my “Official ABBA fan club of Canada” membership. Now I’m all nostalgic.

I think your best bet is to get cable and hope they show reruns on Nick at Night. Not every TV program has a cult following that justifies a home video release.

Hang on to the Abba card, word is they won’t get back toether for a billion (thousand million for you brits) dollars.

I’m amazed you haven’t needed that membership card before now.

Your tapes may have been hard to track down in earlier years, but rejoice! Now we have E-bay, world headquarters for camp crap like that.

I always thought it would be so cool to have your own, personal sound effects…

My sister still has her Bionic Woman lunchbox, Gretchen. I’m jealous!

for some reason i think the Sci-fi channel has both shows
i could be wrong

I’m pink therefore I’m Spam

The Sci-Fi Channel had them for awhile as part of their daytime programming, but I don’t think they are carrying it currently. Wait a while. I’m sure they will be back.

Got this from Don’t Play Ball in the House, and Other Stuff We Learned from TV, by David and Joe Borgenicht.

The lifting body seen in the titles for The Six Million Dollar Man was flown by a pilot named Peterson (or Petersen). He survived, but lost an eye.

The first lifting body was built with a frame by NASA and a wooden body by a glider maker about 40 miles south. Its first flights were made by towing it behind a hot-rodded Pontiac, and later it was hauled aloft by a C-47.

Lifting body technology was used in the design of the Space Shuttle.

OARN: We would have had a reusable spacecraft before the 70s had we not been in a “space race” with the Russians. The X-15 made it to the “edge” of space.

“Steve Austin, astronaut, a man barely alive. Gentlemen, we can rebuild him, we have the technology. We have the capability to make the worlds first Bionic Man. Steve Austin will be that man. Better than he was before. Better. Stronger. Faster.”

I was always a fan of the fembots. Remember them?

Yes, created by Dr. Franklin, John Houseman

How could the bionic woman hear a conversation a half a block away yet not be blasted away by a car horn?

And shouldn’t Steve Austin have had 2 bionic legs? Wouldn’t one just make him run in circles?

Steve Austin: 2 legs, one arm, and one eye are bionic.

Jaime Sommers: 2 legs, one arm, and one ear are bionic.

At least that’s the way I remember it.

Wasn’t there also a bionic dog and a bionic big foot in there somewhere, as well?

IIRC (which I usually don’t), Bigfoot wasn’t bionic- he was just Bigfoot.

I have many fond memories of going over to my friends house to watch S.W.A.T. followed by the 6 Million $ Man. Memories…

Remember Friday nights around 1974? First was the Planet of the Apes TV series
at 8:00 PM, the Six Million Dollar Man at 9:00 followed by Kolchak: The Night Stalker at 10:00. With no school the next day and a TV line up like this it was heaven. Contrast this to Sunday nights with at least in my part of the country Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom. When Marlin Perkins came on you knew your weekend was over and school beckoned.

Forget Friday nights! Saturday nights were the best. The Carol Burnett Show, Police Woman. (We’ve sure come a long way - Can you imagine a show called “Police Woman” today? Or how about “Fireman Woman”?)

I’m sure there was another show in there somewhere, maybe Columbo, but I can’t remember what it was!

That kind of hearing technology is a reality. I have a pair of electronic shooter’s earmuffs that amplify normal sounds to a desired level but compresses the dynamic range so gunfire sounds like it does on TV but I can carry on a conversation in a normal tone of voice. With the volume cranked all the way up I can hear faint sounds I would not normally but the loud sounds don’t cause discomfort or damage.

FWIW I thought Steve had two bionic legs and one arm.

FWIW again when I wa in High school, '78, the band went to Universal Studios Hollywood. On the sound stage a volunteer got to try the blue screen special effect to “jump” over an airplane complete with SMDM/BW sound.
