The Sixburgh Steelers March to the Super Bowl Thread

I almost feel bad for the Broncos every time they have to punt. We could have told them all about Mitch Berger.

Point made in the edit

I haven’t understood the Broncos playcalling this entire half.

This space for rent.

I think the Steelers have been trying to bait them into throwing something they could intercept and trying to get a guy deep would give the LBs too much time to get on Orton. I’m surprised we haven’t seen them try and get a draw play or two just to change the rhythm.

What’s with Jon Gruden going on about how great the Steelers are at closing out games? That’s been one of their largest weaknesses this year, it’s why they have their two losses in games that they dominated up until the 4th quarter…

And to illustrate my point, they have a close call with a fumble at first and goal (I think the review showed it was a fumble even). I far prefer Mendenhall to Willie Parker, but he’s got to hold onto the ball. Also, earlier in the final drive when he broke the big run, he should have stayed in bounds to keep the clock running.

Whenever I listen to any former-coach-turned-commentator who’s not named Brian Billick I wonder how the hell these guys ran football teams.

Actually, there was still more than five minutes left in the second half, so the clock didn’t stop.

How about Hines Ward with 7 catches and 2 TDs! Mendenhall with 155 yards. The D with 3 picks, one TD and allowing a total of 27 yards rushing and 248 total yards.

And Steeler Nation in force yet again. “America’s Team? No, we’re Pittsburgh’s team!”

I loved Gruden talking about how many players like Ward he’d want on his team.

See?

In Gruden’s case, he more or less just closed his eyes and hoped his offense didn’t turn the ball over too much, and maybe even scored some points every now and then.

I couldn’t imagine that an “offensive guru” would be so inept at building an offense. With the defense we had in place we should have won three Super Bowls.

Gruden seems to have a lot in common with McDaniels.

Young, blond-haired, offensive-minded head coaches of teams with no offense to speak of? Sounds about right to me.

The difference is that Gruden would have traded Jay Cutler for Kerry Collins and anyone else on the Titans roster with grey hair.

I noticed too that Gruden seems to be a Steelers’ fan. Sunday night’s commentators seem to subtly hate on the Steelers, but Gruden seems to love them.

We were dominating when I fell asleep at 11:00ish. I woke up and it seemed as if we had won, but I was too out of it to tell for sure. Hooray Steelers!

Big game today. It worries me when most of the experts pick us - I’m superstitious that way - but as far as I can tell, almost all of them have us picked to win.

I have people coming over so I’ll only be able to post before and after.

Go Steelers!

Keiwan Ratliff, Carey Davis, Kraig Urbik, Tony Hills, Sunny Harris, Shaun McDonald and Travis Kirschke are out for the Steelers today. No big surprises. Harris out means they go with only five D-linemen today. That means Ziggy Hood has their confidence and on third down passing situations we’ll see only one or two guys with their hands on the ground.

I think the gameplan will be similar to last time around. Spread the wide receivers out or bunch them up and try to pick on any Bengal DBs not named Joseph or Hall. The key guys for the Steelers to worry about today are the tackles, Johnson, Peko, guys like that. As much as the line has improved they still need some help in the middle to contain the interior pass rushers. Mendenhall and Moore will be key there in picking up the free blitzers or releasing in the middle of the field to give Ben a hot read.

On defense they’ll just keep doing what they do.

All five experts on ESPN Sunday Countdown sure did. I’m taking the Steelers, 28-24. I picked the Bengals to win a wild card berth way back in Week 1, and I’m sticking with that.

Polamalu out for the remainder of the game. Bad news there. I still think we can win but it will be a lot tougher.

Can I change my pick?

I’m not worried. Yet.

You don’t have to funny guy.
