The song played over the World Series credits

Did anyone here watch the World Series credits and hear the quasi-opera duet? Do you know who sang it and the song title?

I’m curious, m’self.

Man, I was gonna post the same question!!! Don’t let this thread die. We’ve got to figure it out. Let me give a description of it. It’s about saying goodbye, is in operatic form with opera singers, one male and one female. He’s a tenor and she’s a soprano(surprise surprise).

Now the song seemed to be split into two languages for different verses. One was English, but I think the other was Italian(???). Did anyone else hear this and know what song it was?

Is it something from the “Pavorotti and Friends” album with Celene Dion (sorry guys, I don’t keep up with baseball, but from your description it may be worth checking out)?

Creepy. I too was wondering this and I just figured this one out. It’s a great song. It makes more than a few appearances in The Sopranos.

It’s called "Con Te Partiro " by composer Francesco Sartori. The title means “With you I’ll leave”.

The male singer is Andrea Bocelli known to most people as “that handsome blind Italian opera guy”. In fact I found his name by typing “blind opera singer” into Google. The Sopranos version is just Andrea singing it. It is on Bocelli’s album Romanza

The Bocelli version of CTP was never released as a single in the US, but it was huge in Europe. Sold three million copies there alone.

However, the World Series credits version is clearly a duet. The Romanza album also has a duet version of “Con Te Partiro” with the parenthetical title “Time to Say Goodbye”, as these are the only English words sung in this song. The female part is sung by Sarah Brightman.

However, I have also seen versions of the duet sung with Celine instead of Sarah. I don’t know which woman he’s singing with in the WS version, but both versions are very good.

OK just realized something.

I can’t find actualy solid evidence that Celine Dion ever sang “Con Te Partiro” with Bocelli.

I assumed she did because her name turned up in a few web searches as singing in CTP with Bocelli. It turns out that a lot of MP3 titles credit her as being the female singer. Now a lot of MP3 titles have inaccurate info on the artist (I once saw an MP3 claim that “Video Killed the Radio Star” was sung by the Bangles) so that information may be false.

Celine did do a duet with Bocelli on her album These are Special Times but the song is “The Prayer”. Not CTP.

So upon further consideration, I’d say that the World Series credits version was Mr. Bocelli and Ms. Brightman.

Alphagene, I love you. smooch

Cool, now I can go and buy the album.
