Great episode and I completely forgive them for the whole lame Adrianna gives it up to the feds story line.
What I like best about Sil’s character is he knows exactly how good he has it as Tony’s go-to guy. He isn’t going to screw that up by making a move on something he doesn’t really want. Paulie, OTOH…
Shallow, yes. Greedy, definitely. Dumb, not so much. I’m pretty sure she took Ginny for a “spa day” so that when Ginny reports back to Johnny, she’ll tell him the Sopranos are treating her well. Tony still needs to stay on Johnny’s good side and treating his wife well is going to go a lot further than paying for sunglasses.
Great greasy goddess, you just KNOW she’s going to want Artie to cater it. I sense another Carmela/Charmaine face off in the works.
I’m probably reading too much into the Carm/Angie exchange, but I thought Carm was just a teensy bit jealous of Angie because Angie bought the car herself, rather than still having to rely on a man to give her what she wants (although the money to buy the car came from her dead husband, I assume). Also, I missed whatever Angie said when Carm asked “You bought that yourself?”–something about “they told me it would be better if I owned it outright”?
Carm had been totally showing off her ride, and then Ange really one-upped her since she bought it herself.
Carm’s independence – or lack thereof – is becoming a recurring point. Her inability to get the house built without Tony throwing his weight around is more on that.
I think that Carm was asking “you bought that yourself instead of someone buying it for you” and Ange was answering in the framework that she “bought it instead of financed it” as if buying it by herself was taken for granted.
I don’t think that she is smart enough to think like that. She’s out seeing all of her acquaintences, even renewing a friendship with Angie, to show off her car. It’s going to backfire in the case of Ginny. She’s going to whine to Johnny about how well the Sopranos are doing and rubbing her face in it while she starves.
One thing I didn’t get- when they were in the kitchen and Tony asked her “how’s the car” and all she could manage was a silent, forced smile and nod- what was that about? Does she feel guilty acting ga-ga over it, as further evidence that she’s bought into the benefit of the gangster lifestyle? Or does she not want Tony to know how crazy she is about it so he won’t think he can screw up (and screw his whores) and make up for it by buying her gifts?
I think she was still pouting because Tony went to the Sushi bar without her… probably a little of both.
I did like that she honestly believed him when he said he went there alone. It says alot that Tony has changed.
Lorraine Bracco looks to be about the same size as she was last year. I don’t think she’s particularly heavy. She looks like a normal-sized person to me. Since it’s TV we expect people to all be built very thin.
So, if there were to be a “war” between the two families (Jersey & NY), what would it look like?
Would the “soldiers” stop all of their hussling duties and go hunt down members of the other families? Pitched gun-battles in the streets? Mass restaurant burnings? Exactly what form would it take?
Which is interesting since this season of The Sopranos is supposed to be largely about the shallowness of image and consumerism. We already saw some of this with Vito losing weight, Tony worried about getting fatter, and Carmella’s car. There were also numerous very blatant product placements.
Plus, Florida-man gave a nice rant about how Tony and Sal only cared about image.
I honestly didn’t notice whether Melfi was larger, smaller or whatever compared to last season. She wasn’t on screen very long.
