"The Sopranos" - 3.12.06 SPOILERS!

That wasn’t Chris being made a captain. That was Chris being made a “made man”. That is, he was made an official member of Cosa Nostra (at rank “soldier”), and not just an “associate”. This meant that he had certain priviledges (better access to scams or areas that will help him earn) but also certain responsibilities (having to cough up so much dough to those above him; being the new guy in the club means he has to pay for dinners and such).

He’s a bit of a special case, however. Unless I’m forgetting something, Chris was never put into a crew. He answered directly to Tony. Also, due to his blood relation to Tony he was never really just an associate.

I don’t think this is without precedent. If I recall correctly, former Don of the Gambino family Paul Castellano used to have a soldier report to him directly, instead of through a capo.

An analogy:
Boss = CEO
Capo Regime (Capo for short) = Management
Soldier = Full time employee
Associate = Temp or contract worker

Nice. I was just about to post the exact the same thing, using slightly different syntax.

Wasn’t he made an “acting captain” while Paulie was in jail on the gun charges?

On a sidenote, what did Junior say right before he shot Tony?

Something in Italian, I belive.

He had, in his dementia, mistaken Tony for Pauly Jr…

I’m pretty sure you realized that much, but what we need is a translation.

Little Pussy :smack:

Geez, it was just a bad camera angle. Low angle, with her calves in the foreground? Of course they are going to look huge. Hasn’t anyone here had a bad photo taken of them? Besides, even if she has gained a couple of pounds, how many of us has that happened to over the last two years (especially if you’re over 35)?

Anyway, the opening of this ep was killer. I had to go back and watch the Burroughs thing three times. It was a perfect way to get us up to speed on all the important info: Janice had a baby, Bobby’s into trains, Unka June is feeble, Tony & Carm are happy, some random soldier (Eugene) got some good news, Carm’s building the house, AJ’s a slacker, Meadow and Finn are still together (somehow - I thought he moved to California), Vito lost weight, Ade is still dead, etc.

After that, they had me. Wow.

Yeah. Then Paulie took over again as far as we know.

What’s not clear then is what Paulie’s role is now. Until the end of S5 at least, Paulie was still the capo of the Soprano Crew, which includes Chris, Little Paulie, Benny and probably a few others. It’s been suggested, maybe here or somewhere else, that Tony made Chris capo as his reward for giving up Ade, but I can’t imagine Tony making Chris the capo of anything other his old crew. Maybe Paulie’s just moved upstairs a bit, so to speak.

Okay, question: Is this Janice’s first child? I think I vaguely remember a mention of a son who would be about Meadow’s age, but perhaps not.

Janice also has a son named Harpo, who I think would be about Meadow’s age, and whom I think she has a bad relationship with and is not on speaking terms.

It was something something Malenga.

And Malenga was the guy he was ranting about in the background when they were looking for the cash. So, at least we can figure he thought Tony was Malenga.

Janice’s first son is homeless and lives on the streets of Montreal.

According to this – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DiMeo_Crime_Family – Christopher is now capo of the Gualtieri, or Soprano, Crew, and Paulie has been promoted to underboss.

I like Harpo already. How could anyone ever be on good terms with Janice? Bobby is scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Not that it will get much screen time, but I expect Janice, now that she has her own child, will be even more of the stereotypically mean, rotten, cruel stepmother to Bobby’s kids.

Returning character spoiler:

According to a news story by the Detroit Free Press in December 2004, Furio will be returning for the sixth season of The Sopranos, likely to lock horns with Tony over Carmela.

Chrissy isn’t related to Tony by blood but is by marriage.

Chrissy is Carmella’s first cousin once removed.

Chrissy’s father is Dickie Multisonti. Dickie was a mob figure who was assasinated when Chris was a toddler.

Dickie and Carmella were first cousins.

Dickie’s mother and Carmella’s father were siblings.

Carmella had mobsters in her family growing up so she knew exactly what she was getting herself into when she married Tony. As we saw in the last episode, Carmella’s father, who was straight, used his family mob connections when he was a contractor.

You have got to be kidding me. Sorry, but eating disorders are not sexy. I’d add more of what I’m thinking to that, but this is not the pit.

Actually, Christopher Moltisanti is Tony’s second cousin and Carmela’s first cousin. Tony affectionately calls Chris his nephew.

Thanks. I don’t remember anything in the episode to confirm that, but it would make sense.

As I remember it as well, Chris was made acting Captain while Paulie was in jail. When Paulie got out there was an issue of who was in charge and if Chris was still a captain.

And having just watched the episode again… Melfi’s legs look like normal human legs. Thinking they are huge is fucked up.

Ditto that. What I wanna know is - where did she get those yummy shoes?
