I’ve been wanting to see this show for a while. It always looked like something I’d like, but I’m pretty anti-cable, so we never got HBO or anything like that. Finally, we ordered the first 8 episodes on DVD from Netflix.
OH MY GOD !!!
It’s perfect! It is, without a doubt, the best show I’ve ever seen on TV…ever!
We watched the first two discs in two nights and immediately put the others at the top of our Netflix queue. oh, by the way, you have GOT to watch this show with a nice home theatre system, the soundtrack kicks much ass.
So, is anyone else addicted? I know I’m behind a few seasons, so no spoilers please!
I just finished the first season too. I love it! I’m Italian and I can understand most of the words they use, mostly swearing or anatomy and I just think it’s hilarious. It IS suposed to be funny, or is it just me?
Soundtrack is great. Actors are geat. I love that one close friend of his, not Pussy, the other older guy.
…and that woman dentist staying at the Cusamano’s…ohmigod!
I don’t know about it being the very best thing I’ve ever seen on TV… I think that “Hill Street Blues”, for its time, has the edge… but I dearly love The Sopranos and could sing its praises forever. I think Season 1 was slightly better than Season 2, but then again 2 had the guest appearance by Maria Grazia Cuccinotta, who is a goddess, so maybe I’ll reseve judgement.
I’m just darned lucky that over here in the UK one of the free-to-air channels opted to buy it, and that we see it only a few months after you do. Unlike “Seinfeld”, for example, where the grand last ever episode was finally aired this week (as opposed to May 1999 over there in the USA)!
I don’t have HBO either, but I used to catch this show occasionally in my travels. Ironically the first place I saw The Sopranos was on a trip to Saudi. Nothing to do there but watch TV and pray. It’s strange to be in a country where the women stay completely covered and then see a scene on the TV with topless exotic dancers in the background.
Now I guess I’ll have to see if I can rent the DVDs.
I have some real problems with the show, especially the three dozen subplots they create with every new episode, none of which are ever followed up. It’s like each week’s writer in in his own little cubicle, and no one communicates with one other.
That said, the episode with Christopher and Pauly lost in the woods was one of the best pieces of television I’ve seen in a long while.
I’ll watch this over the David E. Kelly/Aaron Sorkin crapfests on network TV any day.
Incidentally, if you’re a betting man, what do you think the odds are of Ritchie living all the way through Season 4?
For those who think he’s gonna get wiped, the payout is: One thousand dollars will get you one thousand dollars and one cent.
Wow, Demo, I could have written this paragraph. I saw the first 8 episodes on DVD when I over last month. And I had the same reaction. We found ourselves looking at the clock to see if we had time for just one more episode …
Unfortunately I haven’t been able to see any of the more recent episodes because I don’t have a VCR or DVD here in Ireland, and the Irish channel that broadcasts it does so on the one night of the week I’m never home
The Sopranos may be my first or second favorite TV show. It might be tied with 6 Feet Under. But when I watch the reruns I think… man, this show hasn’t always been “GREAT”.
