The Soup - is Lou dead ??

Tonight (1/9/09) on The Soup, Joel, at the very end of the show, gave a serious (apparently) statement about the “loss” of a “good friend” (?, something like that) of The Soup, “Ben” who was “three years old” and recently died of “cancer”, and accompanied the “Ben” statement with hand gestures indicating something about size of a football. So…

Was he talking about Lou, the chihuaua? Joel’s statements did seem sincere, but… a little on the light side if he were referring to an actual three year old HUMAN child who died of cancer. Also, cancer tends to afflict older humans, although it isn’t unheard of for a 3 year old human to have cancer it certainly isn’t as common as, say, a 3 year old dog having cancer. The light tone, the hand gestures, cancer in a 3 year old, all made me suspect he wasn’t talking about a human. However, all of that would’ve made sense if he was talking about the dog that they call “Lou”. (It is “Lou”, right?)

Was it Lou? Did Lou die?

I don’t think it was Lou. It sounded like he said " My friend Ben Town" and with the hand gesture, “he was a great little guy.”

I didn’t think his tone was light. He was rushed because the show was ending, which would cause someone to sound unemotional.

I get what you’re saying. I didn’t mean “light” as in “flippant”. Yeah, the producers probably gave him six seconds or something. He was rushed and couldn’t make an impassioned, heartfelt statement (especially on a comedy show).

That being said, you bring up a good point I missed. “He was a great little guy.” Yes, I think that’s what he said. Now…

“Great little guy” to me doesn’t sound like what someone would say about a human child (who, at 3 years old, died of cancer). However, it does sound reasonable (especially given the hand gestures) to say about a dog.

Batsinma Belfry, I’m not sayin’ you’re wrong, I’m just respectfully disagreeing with your assessment that it wasn’t Lou. I don’t know who he was talking about, but to me it would make the most sense if it was Lou.

I did check their official website, and as of yet there was nothing to shed light on this.

Well, it’s not Lou. sounded real to me

According to the forums at TWOP, it Ben Towne, and he was a 3 year old boy. Joel’s wife attended the same church s the Townes’.

Here is Ben’s web page: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/towne

Very sad…

Wow… Lou has credits as “Actor” and “Self”. I’d love to see Lou portray Lassie.

Thank you. I stand humbly corrected.

Yes, that’s very sad.

Thanks,
JJM

:frowning:

I may be going to hell for this, but, while it is very sad a child died, I’m relieved it wasn’t Lou. I don’t know Ben, I’m very sorry for his parents, but Lou is the only chihuahua I’ve ever liked.

Damn…I’m more conflicted about this than I should be…
