does any legit historian verify that Hitler or any Nazi leader actually confiscated “the Spear” from the Hapsburg Museum, or had any interest in doing so?
has any scientific testing been done on the Spear? (dating, tests of wood & metal types & origins)
As the original parts of the Spear are all metal, any tests would be most unlikely to reveal useful information about when it was made. The Kunsthistorisches Museum believes that it dates from the eighth century AD, presumably on the basis of the stylistic evidence.
Trevor Ravenscroft, in The Spear of Destiny, wrote an account that he claimed came from a Dr Walter Stein about young Hitler’s infatuation with the spear. At earliest opportunity, Hitler took the spear from Vienna and kept it in a vault. It was captured by Allied forces and Hitler committed suicide.
Alan Baker, on the other hand, claims that Hitler had no obsession with the occult and was pretty uninterested in the spear, taking it with the other artifacts from the Hofburg Museum for economical reasons rather than mystical. His book is called Invisible Eagle. I believe, but could be wrong, that Baker mentions that Himmler was much more of an occultist than Hitler.
There are other historians on Baker’s side, so the straight answer is yes, there have been serious historians looking into the Hitler&spear story. Start with Baker and work your way from there.
