Curse Of The Demon (1957) is coming on at 18:45 on TCM. Good movie, and sampled in Kate Bush’s Hounds Of Love.
We went down the Beach to Bay Breeze for ‘dinner’. (Seriously, who has actual dinner at 4:30 in the afternoon?) We both had the parmesan-encrusted rockfish with asparagus. Yum. The owner (?) gave us some butternut squash soup to bring home. I had a spoonful. Sweet, but really good.
Dropping back in briefly to say that I’m in South Jawja. And have accordingly visited a Buc-ee’s and eaten some Dole Whip. Not at the same place at the same time, but both in the same day = today.
Both of which exciting features of the US southeast I learned about right here in the MMP. Two firsts in one day! Yaay!
That is all. Good day and best wishes to everyone.
Back when I had a couple of cats, one of them managed to snag a bit of Christmas tinsel that came in with a gift. Poor Domino came running, spooked, from the cat box with a string of poo with a sparkle. He was horrified!
Late night final now and the tackleball game is no longer interesting. Done very little since dinner outside of spilling a jar of pickles over my kitchen floor while fixing dinner, so that has been cleaned up. Have finished my shopping list for tomorrow and will try to time it to just after school starting, so should be done early Firday. It’s down to 42F now so should be good sleeping weather.
JtC, been the check-writer for many years, never quite the handy-man/woman you and Hubs are.
Flyboy, glad Findus is the snuggle type.
Pilot, I have a Buc-ees about 12 miles down the road. It is pretty unique. Haven’t had Dole Whip in ages, but tomorrow is my shopping day…hmmm…
And that’s all I wrote for Thorsday. Catch y’all tomorrow.
My husband calls yellow jackets “flying assholes”. When he was a teenager he mowed over a ground nest and ended up running to the pool to get them to leave him alone. He’s not a fan. Glad you’re doing better.
My parents wouldn’t let me put underwear or bras on their clothesline, even though almost nobody can see it. Didn’t mind too much. It’s different in Switzerland - I’ve seen the undergarments of many of my neighbors out on the line or drying rack. It’s just clothing.
Definitely prefer the no strings attached version. Hope Ms. Peach has recovered.
I keep reading this as Nine Inch Nails, even though I think their logo has a backwards N. Amuses me. Thank you for your generosity.
That’s why I’m here - gotta keep track. Little chilly for margaritas - might just have some scotch. A bit later, as it’s not even 9am.
Yum! Had some pumpkin soup the other day at lunch - I really like it when the pumpkin is the main flavor.
Yay! Kitty’s outta the corner.
Decided to take today off, as I have to use all my vacation days before the end of the year. Tomorrow’s a holiday here, so everything will be closed. Need to make a couple of grocery lists, go shopping, and then do more shopping in the bigger town. Hubby needs to replace his boots and fall jacket. Maybe I’ll find something bootlike for winter. Last winter was fairly mild so I rarely needed the really warm boots. But those are getting worn, and I disposed of another pair of boot-like shoes as the sole was almost worn through.
Happy Halloween!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! BOO!!! (N.O.B.) Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 44 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 67 and sunny. No big plans for the day, which is always fine by us. Maybe I’ll make a list of stuff I need to remember to take with me next Thursday. I suppose one should show up at a church convention fully clothed. We will hide in the dark tonight so we don’t get candy beggars. Plus the plan is to watch Hocus Pocus tonight. Really like that movie. Sup will be burgers’n fixin’s and oven fries.
NIN = Neighbors In Need. The nice nuns (Catlick) provide food and clothin’. Plus a soup kitchen twice a week.
FlyBoy glad Findus has decided you are acceptable.
Pilot I am guessin’ you experienced the giant beaver at Brunswick, Jawja. You are/were travelin’ on I95 headed to Charleston, right?
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 13c/55f with a predicted high of 15c/59f and cloudy. Weather app says “OK, Annie, I thought you said the fucking sun would come out tomorrow. You were fucking wrong, Annie.”
All cats are different, sometimes the residents don’t really seem bothered about another cat coming into the house, sometimes they can be the complete opposite. We’ve never had any real problems integrating cats, until Muffin moved in
I saw them on FB, so I now know that your landscaping is not a load of purple squares! It looks very good, but could do with some colour later when you’ve decided what else to plant in it.
Sounds like a very good day for you!
Bah! I haven’t been well enough for the gym all week and I miss it. Still not going to be well enough over the weekend if today is anything to go by.
Definitely a good idea to send them off to gentle Jesus then
Everywhere I’ve lived, there’s been a clothesline or rotary dryer outside. For the sake of everyone else, my smalls go on an airer in the bathroom, everything else goes outside when the weather’s fine enough.
You both are Good People too. It’s heartwarming to hear about communities supporting each other when those in authority who should do the supporting are failing in their duties.
VanGo I hope Ms Peach has recovered from the sock exploit and is not tempted to try it again.
Yesterday was not a good day at all for me. I did log into work although I didn’t really feel up to much, we are short-staffed and there’s very little support from senior management, and my conscience won’t let me leave the rest of the team floundering. I ended up having to attend a meeting where the ADHD Squirrel did a waffling presentation about a new process that uses stuff none of us understand, and at the end of it, we were still not exactly sure what we need to do. She will have to come to each individual team in College and show them how to use stuff, it’s all very confusing and I think I just felt overwhelmed at the end of it.
Anyway, ‘im indoors’ train was very late so I ended up collecting him from the station, coming back home so he could get changed then drove us out to Cannock to see a couple of bands. I wasn’t feeling great, but the venue wasn’t too busy and I found a seat in the back. I was home and in bed before midnight so that wasn’t too bad.
I feel really grotty today though, so I am hoping for a quiet irk day with no drama, and a restful weekend. He’s going into town later today and will bring back lunch from our favourite Indian food vendor which will be a nice treat for me. Apart from that, I do not plan to do anything else apart from log out of irk on time and have a nice hot soaky bath.
Where are you going? Daughter went to PetCo with her last dog, and we’re doing PetSmart with ours - I understand their programs are very similar. And I have to say, the current one is quite good - the instructor is aces!
$10.95/bd ft - we figure around $800 for what we need for this project. Considering all we’ve done/had done in this refit, that’s practically pocket change. But the inheritance fund still has a few bucks in it, so why not?
I don’t mind it since the machines do most of the work, but it does kill at least half a day, more if I do stuff like bedding and curtains.
I take the lazy way - I found the address for Feed St. Mary’s and I wrote a check. I figure they know what they need in addition to what people bring, so they can supplement their supplies. Plus I don’t have to drive 20-ish miles with a crate of mac-n-cheese in my car, because lazy.
They are the devil’s insect!! Accidentally stepped on a mound once wearing flip-flops. Oh, the pain!!!
I almost never hung any undergarments out, not out of embarrassment, but because it took too dang long to hang all the little items - a week’s worth of socks for 2 of us came to 28!!!. So unders went into the dryer but everything else was on the line.
There will be color come spring and summer (I hope, after all this cost!!!)
First chore today is a quick grocery run, then laundry, then maybe some transplanting. I should go over to the nursery and pay them and get the care instructions. So a semi-busy day ahead. House will be dark tonight.
We have an ongoing charity event here. Bruce Crawford/Producer, Omaha Film Event./ Bruce Crawford brings in movies and shows them on the big screen. He also brings in guest speakers who are connected with the movie. He has done 53 events so far, all profits to a local charity.
Last Friday was “The Cowboys” with Robert Carradine as the speaker. We did NOT dress for this. I was wearing jeans, a Carhartt tee shirt, a jean jacket and my snake boots. I had been wearing this ensemble all day.
When we got there and found a seat I saw that there were quite a few people dressed in western clothing. It was then that I realized…
I almost always dress like a cowboy. It was a weird epiphany. This isn’t a costume, it is just how I dress!
Back from Food Lion. They’ve got food boxes stacked as you come in - for $6 you provide a meal or two to a local family. I got one, and I’ll probably grab one every time I shop. Because I’m nice, dammit!
First load is in the washer. FCD is on his way to get the teak. I called the nursery to find out about paying the balance due - according to the contract, I should have paid already. But they’ll be sending a bill, so that’s good.
Otis is outside frolicking in nature. I’m thinking I need a little recliner time until Alexa tells me that the washer is done.
For those who don’t follow me on FB, I posted this earlier:
Since King Charles has stripped his brother of his royal title due to his involvement with Epstein, is he now the Andrew Formerly Known As Prince??
It’s currently 40°F and cloudy. The morning will be cloudy, with some showers, but by the afternoon, we can expect constant rainfall that will persist through prime trick-or-treating hours. Our daytime high is expected to be around 53°F. Thank God I don’t have to take kids around for TorTing anymore. It was either pouring down rain or bitterly cold when the kids were little.
It looks like I need to replace the water filter on my fridge, so I’ll probably head down to Lowe’s or HD today to purchase a replacement. Since I’ll be out and about, I might also stop by Costco.
Bright Tree, yes, it was always the yellow-jackets, who are, in fact, total assholes, that got me. While in the YCC, I encountered numerous nests while clearing slash piles and was stung multiple times that summer. My mother is allergic to bees, but fortunately, I am not. At least, I wasn’t. It’s been a minute since I was stung.
VanGo, my Maisie has a thing for socks, but fortunately, she hasn’t eaten a whole one yet. We have to keep socks far away from her, but somehow she always finds one of my husband’s socks.
Growing up, I had to hang clothes on the line, regardless of the season, as long as it wasn’t raining. My mother would become furious if I ran the dryer on a non-rainy day. All clothes, including the smalls. As an adult, I’ve never had an outdoor clothes line. I do hang dry most of my blouses and shirts in the laundry room, though, and, in the summer, the window is always open in that room.
Flyboy, my husband, is always pushing for an early dinner. I prefer to eat just a little later, and agree, 4:30 is too early. I win most of the time.
FCM, I saw the new landscaping pics on FB. Looks nice. Those juniper bushes will really spread.
BooFae, I’m sorry you’re still feeling so grotty.
Well, I suppose I should finish my coffee, shower, and get the day started. You all take care of yourselves!
Old folks and people who work bastard unconventional hours.
hippy, you’d fit right in in Texas!
It could be worse. We had a terrier when I was little who had a thing for Big Bro’s jock straps. Rocky would root through the hamper (or pick one up off the floor of Bro’s bedroom…you know teenagers) and nosh.
Happy Halloween!
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I’ll do a load of clothes today and likely test out the new drying rack, since this load includes a pair of jeans.
I’ll go to the complex celebration this evening and then come home. I think that will be easier all around on Nelson. The little goblins knocking on the door won’t have him losing his mind and I won’t have to sit outside passing treats as an alternative.
My friend (and former work colleague) contacted me earlier this morning and asked if I wanted to go for a walk before the rain moved in. I’m up for it, so I took a shower, and I’ll be leaving in around 20 minutes or so to meet her. It’ll be great to catch up, as we haven’t seen each other in a couple of months. Time just got away from both of us, and she had trips planned, too.
Once I return home, I guess I’ll wash the bedding on the guest bed. I didn’t strip it after my son left, so it needs to be done. Other than that, it’ll be business as usual. I’m not sure if I’ll pick up the fridge filter and stop at Costco after the walk. I guess it depends on how I feel then.
And a good late morning from N. Ali-bama. Did the Great November Shopping trip, only needed two stops to get everything so my larder is full and my wallet is…thinner. Need to go to the Kroger site and get my 50 bonus points and then need to drive my new car around some more, I’ve had it 10-11 days and still have mucho miles before draining the tank, so yay! for hybrids! Getting running boards installed on it Monday. It’s a clear day today so things can start drying out, heading to 62F so I expect a fairly good Trick or Treat turnout.
shoe, sorry for the confusion, I asked my doctor for (PCP-Primary Care Physican) for a referral to get my hearing checked in the summer of 2024, he contacted the ENT group I went to and I have been most happy with their service. So hopefully he can refer me to a good urologist.
Dicey, yeah I used to have ‘use or lose’ leave days too that sort of piled up at the end of the tear. Happy boot-hunting!
boo fae, just take it easy and get well, the gym will still be there for you. And I always loved (not!) people who wanted you to do something new but were unable to explain it well enough. Take care.
Hippie, seems like a way to do well while doing good. And the cowboy look is universal these days…
FCM, that line was worthy of a groan and a raised eyebrow. Well done!
Dinner time at Casa Rat is usually between 5-7pm, depending on my appetite and what I have going on. May be an early meal today so I’m not feeding my face when the Trick or Treaters come calling.
Well, it was meaty…I’ll get me coat…
Taters, enjoy your walk.
And need to drop by the Mart of Wal for a couple things then spend a couple hours at the gym before getting ready for the chocolate onslaught. Have a good afternoon all.
