The spooooookiest MMP

i’m very myopic (super nearsighted) i found that if i needed magnification, it was easier to just use something like these, than deal with the fuzziness of bifocals. far was fuzzy, near was fuzzy, very frustrating.

Amazon.com: Noble Small Reading Glasses (3 Pack) - Rimless Readers with 3 Wallet Credit Card Holders and 1 Cell Phone Case - Pocket Magnifying Cheaters for Men and Women (+2.00) : Health & Household

mostly i just lifted my glasses or took them off if i needed to see something close. once i had cataracts i had one eye set to close and one eye set to distance. my degree of fuzzyness is like watching an old 80’s movie instead of a super hd movie of today.

you’ll find what works for you. good luck!

I played the video and hubby had to see it as well. Well done!

Last year our building got egged. So this year we got an email from the upstairs neighbor recommending that everyone keep lights on throughout the building, and also to go outside ever so often. Not sure that’s going to help if someone really wants to egg the building. I guess Saturday we’ll do a walk around to make sure there’s no egg. Unless we hear something Friday evening. And the price of eggs is going up as well.

If the price of eggs goes up too much, maybe you should go outside to try catch them…

Incidentally, for anyone following along- the neighbour’s parcels are still here. I’m gonna start charging for storage.

In other news, I just quit the board of trustees for the zoo my parents set up, now a charity. It’s not a lot of work being on the board, just 4 meetings a year and occasional emails and similar, but I have so little free time it’s felt like more. I’ve been thinking of quitting for a bit, but the final triggered was some legal changes meaning I’d have to go through a long complicated official identity check and registration process.

It’s not as though I was qualified, have required skills, or really keen to stay involved. I don’t need the extra mental load and it’s been a while since I did much useful on there. It was just my parents wanting me to stay involved, and really, this is their thing, not mine. It’s been 10 years, that’s enough.

He really is and we do know how lucky we are. We had horrible neighbors at our last place, and we still talk about how happy we are not to be listening dogs barking all day and night.

Do you have the lines? I’ve heard they are terrible, I’ve always had decent enough insurance to be able to afford progressives so didn’t really have any issues adjusting.

I agree with the others that maybe they don’t have your sweet spot in the right place, that happened to me and I would get motion sick trying to walk. It was horrible.

Hubs was a autobody repair guy. Everything he did was over his head, so he had upside down progressives cut. It really made a difference for him.

Well, dang. Dental issues are so painful and so expensive :frowning:

I do hope you start feeling better soon, do try to get some proper sleep.

Eeps, I forgot to call Mom, be back later.

“These dry, flavorless bits are fit only for imitation vermin!” - Spot

I had to look 'em up.

Congrats! May you and your feline overlords kittens have a long cohabitation (cause nobody really owns a cat :stuck_out_tongue: )

See, I hated those. Of course, I had already had a few years with lines before I tried them.

I picked up a few things at Aldi, including candy, instant mac & cheese, ramen and oatmeal for the little goblins.

The curry turned out really good. I went with brown rice instead of quinoa, but the squash balanced out the heat nicely. Now for cleanup.

Damn you discord

Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put where it stays until it gets dirty again. Remember I said I was goin’ to make chikin ‘n dumplin’s? Well, instead I made a chikin pot pie. I opened a cabinet to grab sump’n and had to move a box of Bizquick out of the way. Inspiration struck and voila chikin pot pie! Turned out to be the perfect thing for a cool, gray day. Plus leftovers for tomorrow. Thus is the news from swampland.

Back in the ‘90s, my g/f and I called Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs ‘chicken pot pigs’.

Mrs. L.A. had to go into town for a mammiogram. (Old g/f was a radiology scheduler, and she said people would ask for it with the incorrect name. ) She offered to pick up some wine from Trader Joe’s. She came home with two cases of chardonnay. I don’t care for white wine, and she didn’t remember that we always bought cabernet sauvignon. Since I had been planning to go to TJ’s anyway, I offered to swap the white for red. Got there, did some shopping, got into line, and discovered my wallet was 20-some miles away from my temporospatial loci. So no roquefort, no sheep’s milk gouda, no macadamia nuts, no cheap Kentucky whiskey, no smoked almonds, no cashews, and no avocados. But I was able to swap the wine.

I didn’t eat my griddle cakes Sunday (since I don’t eat things like that), and we brought them home. Mrs. L.A. had them for dinner. I put a couple of Hebrew National hot dogs into the toaster oven and ate them on Sara Lee Delightful Multi-Grain bread with the rest of the Hormel no-bean chili from a couple of weeks ago, and shredded Tillamook medium cheddar.

There are several different patterns for the reading part. Hugs likes the large area and I think the way they make the edges curve is super distracting when I’m doing close work.

People are even fussier about their eyes than they are about how their morning eggs are cooked!

Happily for me, now that I’m all healed up from the cataract surgeries, I’m only wearing glasses because I’m too lazy to deal with readers and sunglasses. The close up area has a fairly minor correction and the rest of the lenses are uncorrected. I’m loving this

So many words about this. I’m struggling to not say most of them, but the ones I can get out is thanks for being such a caring and thoughtful person.

So the garlic in the back yard has sprouted. This isn’t great, the tender tops will freeze over the winter. This means I need to put more mulch on them so the plan for the day was to go to Lowes and get a bale of garden cut straw. (We can go and sweep the loading area at any feed store for free, but that is mixed with hay and alfalfa and other things deer like to eat. Deer also like to nibble on lettuce and tomatoes, so I try to not encourage them to visit.)

I was planning on going myself, but Hubs had a few things that needed to be done as well. We stopped at Walgreens, went to the produce sto’, went to Kroger for a few things, picked up my scripts and had burgers and ice cream sundaes at Dairy Delight.

Lowes was totally forgotten, so I guess we will do that tomorrow. It does need to happen this week, nightly temps will be dropping.

I don’t know if you guys remember neighbor’s mom locking her dog and keys in her car and borrowing my phone. We didn’t do anything special, I lent her my phone and let her take it back to the car so she could keep an eye on the dog while trying to wake her deaf husband up from his afternoon nap.

Well, the neighbor came over today with come canned bell peppers her mom made for a thank you gift. They came in a Mason jar, I’m not seeing Bell jars here, so I’m thinking they are made in different parts of the country. My reusable Bell lid worked on the Mason jar, standard is nice.

Not knowing what the mom liked to eat, I thought I’d order some Lindt truffles. Those have always been my go-to for refilling jars because everyone likes them and they look fancy while being reasonably inexpensive. WOW, that has certainly changed!

There are a number of folks receiving SNAP in my neighborhood, mostly in households with children. I don’t want the little boogers to go to school hungry. Granted, this isn’t super great nutritionally, but it will fill a belly.

Late night final here, the running around this morning plus some gym work in the afternoon and a on-line soccer meeting about the upcoming tournament this evening has just about worn me down-dishes have also been put away, but that wasn’t to tiring. Rain is due early (very early) in the morning and continue most of the day so I suspect that soccer practice will be rained out tomorrow. Good excuse to stay indoors then.

And now to put my gears into the scrolling position…

Nut and BBBoo, thanks for the modification, been to Glasgow only once and that was only for a few hours, so haven’t learned the terminology.

flyboy, just thinking about an injection in the knee gives me the willies… and I usually remember my wallet, but the times I’ve walked out to the car to discover I left my car keys in the house…

nellie and boo fae, never heard of Dutchman’s trousers either, the things I learn hanging around you folks never ceases to amaze me.

doggio, the computer always gets extra chances and excuses, unlike the poor working stiff.

I don’t have a Halloween joke like others do, so I’ll share my all-time favorite Halloween cartoon (I bet most of you know what it is without looking)…https://www.reddit.com/r/comics/comments/q14keh/my_cartoon_gets_posted_every_year_about_this_time/

FCM, haven’t been on a Princess cruise in a long time, the guy who organizes our group travels doesn’t like them and usually it’s Royal Caribbean. Your report gives me no confidence to try them again. Expecting pictures of the new, improved landscape before Otis digs it all up…

Pavo, great news on your new feline masters! Should name them after singers you admire.

Dicey, hope it is a non-egging Halloween.

Nut, I can understand leaving, hope they have someone to fill your spot (or you have suggested your replacement).

JtC, it’s nice sometimes to get so busy doing other things that you don’t do what you set out to do…been there, Oops that. And nice of neighbor’s mom to thank you with food.

red, you are good people.

And heading towards 10pm and the day is catching up with me, so off to lie in bed and watch the last bit of baseball and work on the Sunday crossword (about 70% done) some more. Catch y’all on Hump Day.

That also happened. I came back into the house and told The Missus that the car wouldn’t start. I said I should take my fob.

You all are inspiring me~I think I might add some pop tarts (frosted of course) and some hot chocolate packets to my treats pile. Coming home to a cup of hot cocoa after school on a chilly fall day would be a tiny treat.

I napped. I watched the Canes lose. I made spicy chicken, rice and peas for dinner. And a Manhattan.

I just add “Yes, Discourse, this is a complete sentence.”

Cookie, that is a lovely picture.

Skimmed otherwise. Going to bed soon. It’s been an eventful day, though. Did I mention that I was having problems with numbness in my hands and feet and some shaking since I took that wee little bit of a sleeping pill? Well, my doc said to see if the issues went away. They did not and managed to get a bit worse. When I told her that, she said that I should stop taking the meds and she suggested that I go to the ER to make sure that nothing else was wrong. So, in the middle of my day my mom and I took off for the ER and MusicMan freaked and headed our way. Fortunately it was determined that I was not having a stroke so I got sent home and took the afternoon off from working. Of course, there was IEP crap that needed to be done tomorrow, so I was able to use Flex Time and get the stuff done this evening and make up the hours that I lost. I’m supposed to follow up with my family doctor which I think is a good idea anyways. It’s a very strange feeling having two of my fingers being numb all the time and the ER doc just chalked it up to neuropathy.

Ok, I’m going to regret not going to bed twenty minutes ago when I was just finished with my work. Don’t say that you told me so in the morning, please.

Nope, not doing anything different than every other night of the year. No one comes out here for Halloween. For many of the years I lived in town, I did the whole thing top to bottom, generous candy, decorations, jack-o-lanterns, costumes. I confess I don’t miss it now.

In those years, I had a friend in New York State who threw a huge Halloween bash every year. Our friends group traveled from all over the world to join in and I went a few times. A couple hundred crazy people, we would sort of take over his town. Some unfortunate 24-hour coffee shop (think Denny’s) would bear the brunt of our shenanigans in the wee hours of November 1st. Fun memories of my misspent youth.

And you all have motivated me. I don’t get trick-or-treaters, but my local(ish) Safeway offers Thanksgiving dinners for a $10 donation per needy family. I took the $50 I would have given to an intrepid trick-or-treater and bought 5 of those meals instead. If the (non-existent) brave trick-or-treater shows up, well, sucks to be me. I’ll still give them the $50. I buy one of those donations each time I go to that market, and I’ll continue to do so. This is on top of my regular donations. Thanks to all for the inspiration!

My eyes are still swollen and hurt from the wasp stings but are gradually improving. I must go out in public tomorrow, but I doubt anyone except close friends would notice now. People will just think I look tired and bleary-eyed, if they think anything at all. metal mouse, thanks for your kind wishes about this painful event in the last MMP. They mattered, as I was feeling pretty low.

The pest control folks will be here on Thursday morning to hopefully deal with the nasty things. But I don’t think I’ll feel completely at ease going out there to gather wood until after the first hard frost.

Sir Charles is gone, and I miss him. He’s such a sweet dog and so chill, just a big pile of snuggly curls. He was VERY happy to see his person, however, and she was happy to see him AND the cat. I brought my usual Cat-a-Log and Dog-Log so she could read about small adventures, how well they ate, etc. She was very happy to get them, as she says they’re funny. I’d better include some jokes in there or something.

Why are dogs such terrible dancers? Because they have two left feet!

Sticky, have you been diagnosed with neuropathy? And when you say “numb,” do you mean you can’t feel a light needle scratch? It sounds like it sucketh mightily, so I hope you do get in to see your doctor soon.

Wait. What now? Heading back to the last MMP to find out what I missed. I’m glad you’re getting better though.

ETA: Just read about it. Yikes. It sounds awful. Were they lying in wait in the woodpile then? Yow. Right by the eyes…scary AND painful!

Sounds like Waffle House, in which case, they would probably be like, “Aw, bless your hearts… aaawww shit, run DUCK!!!”
