The spooooookiest MMP

Thanks, nellie. It was indeed awful. They have a nest in the wood shed somewhere. It’s a cozy spot for wasps to build a home, and I disturbed them, obviously. Two stings on my right eyelid and one sting below my left eye. The venom traveled and made both eyes swell below and above with droopy lids. Bonus: It’s Halloween, and I don’t even need a costume!

The worst was worrying about whether I was going to suffer an episode of anaphylactic shock and with new VoIP phones, no way to call 911 if I needed them. I’ve never had such a reaction before, but I’ve been stung a lot cumulatively, and I worry about it in future. I’ll be talking to my PCP about an Epi pen next time I see her, just in case. Also looking into a generator for our regular power outages.

LOL, a lot like that, yes. My favorite costume of all time from those parties was a dear Brit friend who hails from the same town as our dear boo fae. He came as The Naughty Vicar. From the front, all proper robes and cassock. From the rear, with a strategic cut-out, a pair of red satin panties with garters and fishnet stockings. Watching peoples’ faces as he paraded through the restaurant was worth the entire cost of the trip.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Ick. But glad it wasn’t a stroke.

EEK! I massed that. But glad they are a bit better.

I was actually diagnosed with small fiber neuropathy several years ago. I don’t remember the symptoms or circumstances, though. And I guess that maybe numb is the wrong word. It kind of feels like my toes and fingers are swollen/chunky but they aren’t. Just as of this morning I now have a stabbing sensation intermittently in my foot.

Oh and, two left feet! LOL

I was up at the usual hour of 3 a.m. this morning. Rah. I do have some good news. MusicMan is a huge fan of Depeche Mode and there’s a limited screening of the movie M about their 2023 concerts that just happens to be playing in Canton tomorrow so I got tickets for us to go. I didn’t get a chance to tell him yet this morning because he was running late, but when he’s reached his first stop I’ll let him know.

((Aspenglow)) glad that you are doing better.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/49f with a predicted high of 11c/52f and cloudy. Weather app says “It sure looks like all those fucking clouds are trying to ratfuck your day.” Not if I don’t go outside, right?

Exciting! I’m glad your husband is looking forward to getting out and exploring with you too, that will be fun. It is expensive, but you’ve got a good deal in the sale and it’s a great idea for something you can do together.

Some people with learning requirements based around sensory needs find it easier to focus on pastel tones rather than our standard bright white paper. In the past we’ve usually used beige paper for them, but this student has specified pink, so pink it must be.

A Sassenach is an English person, according to the Scots, and a Weegie is a Glaswegian. He actually comes from a place just outside Glasgow, but close enough. The other expression is one I got from my mum - if it’s cloudy but you can see scraps of blue sky, that’s enough to a pair of trousers for a Dutchman. It’s somehow nautical, mum got it from her father who was in the merchant navy.

I hope there are pics, and not via Imgur because I still can’t see those :frowning:

If it’s burdensome to you, and you don’t feel any real need to continue, then that’s the right thing. It’ll give you more time to properly set up your parcel storage business!

It’s horrible when you have to go out and are only too aware of it yourself, even if other people wouldn’t notice. Glad to hear they’re healing up though. And I’m adding you to the list of Good People!

Very little to report here, I made it to irk yesterday and felt grotty all day. I’m glad I made it to the office though, there were some issues with the language tests that I was able to sort out easily and didn’t need to burden anyone else with them. I was very glad to get home though, didn’t do much apart from tend to the needs of cats.

I did get some sleep though, which was a bonus, and today I have an almost non-stop cough so I’m glad to be working at home. Probably won’t get much done but at least I am here. No pub tonight, I’ll let my friends know that I’m not in a fit state to be amongst the living!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 53 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 70 and cloudy with a chance of rain mid to late afternoon. Hope the rains hold off durin’ the trunk or treat doin’s over to the church house. We’re not participatin’, but I hope the weather holds for those that are. Normally we procure provisions today, but we really don’t need anything but bread and maybe some milk. I suggested last night that we be bears who brunch tomorrow and then go to :open_mouth:Wally*World:open_mouth: to buy stuff for the food pantry. We can buy bread and milk there. Sup will be leftover chikin pot pie.

Bright Tree :open_mouth: Yikes! Glad your face is feelin’ better. We hates waspes we does! Good on you for the donation.

Sticky_Buns hope you feel better soonest.

BooFae feel better soonest as well.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Morning all. Been raining most of the night, that might explain why my bladder got me up 3 times between 1am and 6am, the last time I stayed awake and have more or less started my day. The rain is due to stick around until noontime, so plan to stay indoors until then and work on my slothing skills. I seriously doubt that there will be soccer practice tonight, we’ll just have to see if the fields are open or not. Temperature is about 50F and will climb all the way to…55F later.

Sticky Buns, I am happy the Docs don’t think it is anything massively serious but keep monitoring it anyway. Take care.

Bright Tree, that is a good and decent thing you are doing and now I am motivated to check out places around me. I live in a solidly middle-class area but there are also a lot of thrift stores near me, so some folks can use the help.

And hope the eyes keep healing up. Never did a Halloween Party in my memory, but I guess they can get raucous…

nellie, keeping a Cat-a-log and Dog-a-Log is a great idea and I’m sure it is appreciated highly by the pet owners.

Boo fae, glad you can accommodate the student, around these parts these days it would probably be called ‘woke’ behavior (and I am not going any farther than that). Feel better soon.

And time to see what edibles are available for the early morning. Take care all and have a good Hump Day.

The Dogs?

Happy Wednesday!

Up and at the doctor’s office.

Autumn came overnight and it was 58F when I pulled on a hoodie to walk Nelson,. Any colder and he would have had a jacket on.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Good morning.

It’s 48°F and partly cloudy outside. Today will feature a mix of clouds and sun, with a daytime high of 57°F. We had another bout of soaking rain with some gustiness blowing in last night, so there are even more branches down in the backyard.

Bright Tree, I’m glad you’re healing up. How painful and scary! I was stung multiple times as a kid, all over the head and face when I got too close to a wasp nest. Nasty little buggers.

Sticky Buns, I hope the doc can find a solution for your tingling and/or numbness.

BooFae, I hope the cough starts easing up today. Seems like (for me) the coughs are always worst first thing the morning, and in the last few hours before I go to bed.

Yes, we are looking forward to the bikes, and yes, they were spendy. However, they’re not as expensive as many e-bikes, and they’ll get us both out there. This is probably the last of the big purchases for a good, long while. I think after 42 years of work, most of them just getting by, I deserve a little treat. Some people go to Europe; I bought bikes. The bikes and other stuff shipped yesterday and are scheduled for delivery this Friday. Of course, the bike shop will have to assemble them, so I don’t expect we’ll get them that quickly. We were expecting them by mid-November, so I’m not too worried.

In other news, I received my CSR number from OPM and was able to log into my services account. The interim retirement payment is…scarily low, but I have money banked, so we’ll be okay. Hopefully, it won’t take months and months to work on my packet. As of yesterday, they hadn’t received the packet yet, but they were notified of my retirement mid-month. So, things are moving, albeit slowly.

Speaking of Europe, I found out last week that my husband isn’t all that interested in traveling a lot. I find this…disappointing. But, I’m not going to wait around for him to change his mind; once the finances are truly settled, I’ll go on my own. I was used to traveling alone for work anyway, and I prefer it. We always talked about going places when we were both working, so it was shocking to hear he didn’t really want to go anywhere. Oh well, his loss, not mine.

I need to knock out some chores today, but that’s about all that’s on the agenda. You all take care of yourselves.

Loaded on 200 Middle Green again today.
There was a busted bag of Scott’s grass seed in the damages that got on me, and I got drizzled on on the way to the car. So I may be involuntarily dressing up as Swamp Thing for Halloween.

Cool! And hope the foot stops feeling so much.

“The needs of the many outway the needs of the few. Or the one.” - Spock
but hope you feel more pub-like soon.

No bread and milk?:open_mouth: the Wampas will eat you if it snows.

The hockey team.

Thanks, all, for your kind commiserations. The stings have now graduated to the “itch like hell” part of the proceedings, which is its own sort of torment. But definitely on the mend!

This is my first time being stung on the face, and it is no fun at all! I’ve suffered many stings on my lower extremities owing to stupidly standing on ground wasps’ nests, always when I was preoccupied with doing something else (picking berries, e.g.). They are indeed nasty little buggers! And swampy, we hateses them, too.

taters, do have fun on your e-bikes when they get put together!

sticky buns, I hope you feel better soon. Numbness in extremities is unpleasant no matter the cause. But it’s a good idea to know the cause.

Boo fae, I hope your cough lets go of you soon! You’re right to rest and get as much sleep as you can.

metal mouse, are you loving that new car?

You’ll be less threatening to small children if you style yourself as a Chia pet.

What, are they trying to be fancy by using Latin?

carolina hurricanes. canes for short.

Nah, go as a Chia Pet.

ETA ninja’d!!

I know. I was going for a joke. ‘Canes’ in Latin, is ‘dogs’.

now i’m thinking about dogs in hurricanes…

Boo you iz gud ppl:

I am getting somewhat fed up with these purple squares where there should be fun pics.

In other news- I have never been so happy to hear my neighbour’s dog barking. I am (practically) free of other people’s junk! (OK, there’s 2 small bags of stuff that couldn’t be posted to Germany, but they’re small and not in the way). I didn’t get a chance to talk to her really though, I think Alfie dog had just had a long car trip and wanted to go play… In the dark… possibly in the middle of the road.

In other pet news, I am finally making proper progress on befriending the rats. I found an old hoodie-one with a pocket in front- which is now a ratty old hoodie. I have discovered they love this pocket, and that was the trigger for them to then decide ‘Hey, maybe the rest of this weird giant food generator thing may also be worthy of attention’.

I do need to figure out a safer way for them to come out the cage to play though- that room has way too many potentially dangerous things in, but they’re obviously a lot happier staying in the same room cos it smells right.

There’s a follow up this year.

Happy Halloween 2025 (scroll down a little to see the follow up)

Awwww.

We got lucky today - nice and sunny, with rain coming overnight, and then another sunny day tomorrow. I could get used to this. After Monday’s rain, the local mountain is looking all gorgeous with a dusting of snow. Sorry, no picture.

Oh, I had rats years ago. Lovely pets when handled often. (What I have now is a different species, African soft-furs. Very, very different.)

What colors did you get, and can we sqeeee over some pics, maybe in the pet thread?

Ah, now I’m nostalgic. I had a big grey girl who was the sweetest critter you can imagine - smart as hell, too. RIP Lisa.
