Just recently watched a movie named The Square by Nash Edgerton and written by his brother Joel, which whom is great on The Warrior. Personally I loved it. Myself as a scriptwriter and aspiring to study film, I thought it was pretty well written. It offers many twist in its plot and the acting is pretty well. Has anyone else seen this film, any remarks, facts, or discussions on it? I was left speechless at the end and honestly I couldn’t get my mouth to close. It seemed my mouth dropped to the floor and it stuck like that. Haha.
I saw it at the Music Box theater in Chicago and liked it a lot. They played previews for it for weeks and weeks before it finally showed up. I was beginning to think it wouldn’t because the same theater showed previews for Animal Kingdom for weeks and weeks, but it ended up not showing there and I missed seeing it. I’m still a bit bitter about that. I still haven’t seen it. But The Square did finally come. I think it only played a week so I’m glad I caught it.
I didn’t know about the brothers. I liked that bit of information, thank you. It’s been a few years so I have to admit I remember every detail, but how stupid was that guy?
Wouldn’t he know that that the dirt displacement would change and ruin everything?
I remember it being very tense, and I’ll see anything that director does if at all possible.
Ah man, the guy was a complete idiot. (I’m sorry for your missing out on Animal Kingdom)
But I think that was the ultimate factor in the script, a man who’s life dwindles right before his face just from one silly decision. And the director of that movie actually is not very well known (odd, because he does stunts, directs, acts, writes, produces, does cameras, edits, etc…) , he hasn’t really put out anything else except a recently new short called Bear, which is about eleven minutes long and according to IMBd it has a 7.4, which is actually pretty well of a score. So maybe that could be some kind of golden short put out by him.
Yeah, I saw it, because it happened to be playing while I was in Australia and it looked pretty cool in preview. I agree, it was well plotted with some interesting twists. But boy, those characters sure were unlikable. There wasn’t a single likable person in the movie.
I’m surprised the singer, Jessica Chapnik, never made more of a splash. She did a nice job on the score, although it was played more in the trailer than in the movie.
As far as likeable I can generally concur with you that almost all of those characters were unlikeable, nevertheless; I did sort of find like the girl, or the main guy’s mistress, somewhat pleasant. I found her to have somewhat of a vulnerable guise, and I thought she was really pretty. I don’t know, I guess I’m just a sucker for pretty actresses. But of course her character, I found very desperate, and I think that was solely her purpose. The desperation and obsession of love led to, well frankly her demise.
Just a bit of friendly advice. Starting a sentence with “Myself as a screenwriter” will get you bounced by any editor, producer, or reader you ever encounter.
Noticed that, thank ya! * Being a screenwriter myself and aspiring to study film
