Marleau’s fight was sort of the beginning of the end for San Jose, wasn’t it? After Marleau first starts a fight and loses, Ben Eager goes nuts and boards Sedin for no apparent reason. His guy clearly started the fight so why did he retaliate? It wasn’t even like some Marleau was some little guy goaded into it by a huge Chara-type; Marleau is bigger than the Canucks player.
That was bad enough, but then Eager keeps getting stupid, stupid, stupid penalties for the entire rest of the game. I mean, look at the box score:
PERIOD TIME PLAYER PENALTY
1 2:00 Eager Roughing
(2 5:00 Marleau Fighting)
2 2:00 Eager Boarding
3 2:00 Eager Tripping
3 2:00 Eager Roughing
3 10:00 Eager Misconduct
3 2:00 Eager Cross-checking
That’s six power plays that Eager gave Vancouver, 5 of them after the fight that got him so pissed off. Why in the name of Don Cherry’s suits did San Jose keep putting him out there? That’s just begging for Niemi to get slaughtered.
Awesome game - it was fun to watch San Jose breakdown.
I`ve always liked Marleau, but what is he thinking picking a fight with Kevin Bieksa! Bad move obviously, but it was fun to see Juice get a Gordie Howe Hat Trick!
Eager is an idiot - he sealed the Sharks doom. Probably should be suspended for his hit on Danny but Ill be glad to see him play again if hell continue serving 20 penalty minutes a period. How smart is it to score a goal and then get a penalty for standing over and taunting the goalie.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a player who more deserved to be a healthy scratch in the next game. If the Sharks send Eager out for Game 3, they aren’t prepared to come back in this series.
Alex Burrows:
“I was on the bench so I kind of saw it from the side,” he explained. “I wasn’t sure if she really did it or not. I saw the fans reacting, so good for her. Hopefully she’ll be back and the Green Men will be out.” (from the Vancouver Sun)
I watched the game with three other men who like boobs, and somehow we all missed it! Here’s hoping that the fans in San Jose are abreast of the situation and plotting appropriate retriboobtion…
Nice gritty win by the Sharks last night. I’m sure the talk will be all about Jamie McGinn’s hit on Rome. It looked shoulder-to-shoulder and barely worthy of a penatly. They’re letting the result of hit detirmine the punishment.
