Had a nice long one in the second period tonight.
From a sabrmetric point of view, don’t you think that it would be a good move for the team on the power play to pull their goalie and play six on three? That would be a huge advantage and the chances that the defense would have enough time to turn and put a shot on goal seem very remote. I would guess that this move would yield a return of at least 4-1.
I’ve only seen this used once (in the NCAA final between Denver and Maine in 2004) but Maine was down a goal and it was the end of the game. Maine did not score, but Denver never once got control of the puck, and it lasted for 90 seconds.
What the fuck is up with all the penalties. I hate refs like this. Just let them play.

Well crap. Well, stonewalling the Canucks for 59+minutes has to give Boston hope going forward. They have a real chance here.
The game seemed fairly even for the first two periods, I’m very happy Boston couldn’t make 90 seconds of 5 on 3 work. I think the Canucks had the third period mapped out while Boston was running out of gas. Vancouver is too fast for Boston to keep up with for 60 minutes. Kesler with the assist. Burrs has bite!

Shanahan has been really popular with both players and management for a long time. They’ve been searching for a place to put him, he was the guy who came up with the playground style draft for the All-Star game, So I guess they figured what the Hell, he can’t do any worse, and and people will bitch less because he’s popular.
I’m going to go out on a limb and predict that he can do worse. This is a bad career move for Brendan.
