Great game. The Canucks were especially good in the third period, and that OT goal was sweet.
I was living in Vancouver last time the Canucks went to the finals, and i wish i were there right now.
Oh, and Max Lapierre showing Bergeron his finger and offering to let him bite it…brilliant. Best laugh of the day and I’ve been watching cheesy movies for most of it!
I agree. I left Vancouver almost 8 years ago, and my husband 7.5 years ago, but right now, I miss both of them. Mostly the city, I am actually kind of homesick for North Van and Robson Street right now.
I pretty much only miss my ex during play offs, but I also remember that even a regular season loss could make him angry and unstable for days until the next win.
I have a ton of stuff to do today but all I want to do is sit and watch the news cycles and re watch that final goal. Woo Hoo.
I don’t think Burrows deserved to be suspended. The chomp was bad, but didn’t really affect the play on the ice. What got me upset was the 'reasoning" for no disciplanary action. “Not enough evidence”.
As a Bruins fan, being down 0-2 is bad, but not even close to hopeless, especially seeing how both games could have gone either way. Go Bs !!
How could you give that up?
Vancouver is insane right now. After living through the Olympics and working for VANOC, I can confidently say that the Stanley Cup Finals are a bigger deal. There are more people in the streets.
During the Olympics, if I was willing to wait a half hour, I could get a decent table in a bar or a restaurant. Even the day of the gold medal game was no trouble. Yesterday I couldn’t get into a bar to save my life.
I love seeing this city so filled with happiness and excitement. And if it all goes south, hopefully I’ll be able to pick up something decent from the looters during the riot. I could use a new laptop.
First of all the Sedins (Henrik & Daniel) will need to step up and play every minute of every game that they’re on the ice. I’m afraid if they don’t come through it will be lights out for the Canucks.
I’m so homesick for BC right now!! Go Canucks! ![]()
Interesting situation for the NHL. First off, let me just say that I feel the hit on Horton is suspendable, and I hope he’s not seriously injured.
In light of the NHL, though, and it’s apparent view on what is or is not a head shot and what is and is not suspendable… how will they handle this? There have been much more vicious, much more dangerous hits in the regular season (and one or two in the playoffs) that did not result in suspension. What rationale will they use to justify either suspending or not?
Also: anyone else think Horton was already quite susceptible to a serious concussion following the hit he took in the last game against the Lightning (or was it game 6?) That hit looked bad enough… I hope this isn’t another situation like Crosby, where we spend months debating which hit actually caused a concussion (if there is one).
Also also: Max Lapierre taunts Patrice Bergeron by waving his fingers in front of Bergeron’s face in the last game. Classy Claude Julien callsit embarrassing and a mockery of the NHL, saying his players can’t waste their time on stuff like that. Cue Game 3 footage of veteran Marc Recchi trying to forcibly shove his finger down Lapierre’s mouth…twice!!! Love the hyprocrisy! ![]()
That was one of the cheapest shots I have ever seen. Late and he placed his shoulder right under the guys chin. Guy should be out for the rest of the Finals.
It’s impossible to guess how the NHL will handle this. Their process is wholly random.
It was a plain straight-up head shot. The guy had already passed the puck, Rome lined him up, and Rome obviously went for the head. I don’t know how you don’t suspend him, but I wouldn’t want to bet anything on it because they apparently just throw darts at a board to make these decisions.
Well this game didn’t go the way it was supposed to at all!
I think maybe that word doesn’t mean what you think it means.
No hypocrisy at all. Hypocrisy would be if Recchi taunted him. He didn’t, he challenged him face-to-face That’s what the Bruins do. As a Hab’s fan, you should know better than most, you DON’T POKE THE BEAR !!
The Canucks had a huge edge in the series. What possessed them to come out and play like they did, I’ll never know.
It is, in my mind, on a similar level of the Torres hit on Seabrook. There was no suspension there (note that I do feel that there should have been). Despite my personal opinions regarding headshots, I feel the league can’t “justly” suspend Rome for this hit on Horton, based upon everything else they’ve judged so far.
And Lucic goes for the finger taunting too. What’s that you say, Julien? Your team is an embarrassment, even in a win (hey, it was your definition of the word!) ![]()
Vancouver might want to remember what that thing called “defence” means, and Luongo has been weak. IMHO when he’s bad, he’s terrible and this has been one of those games. He looks insecure and wobbly; that is, when he’s not flat on his face. His team left him out to dry, for sure, but he wasn’t impressive even early on. Canucks have work to do.
It means what I think it means (and yep, I just doublechecked the definition, and it still means what I think it means).
I’m not sure I see the distinction; how is it not a taunt? Whether a fight was expected or developed, it’s still a taunt by Recchi. And then by Lucic.
C’mon, you guys can’t seriously think that it ISN’T freaking hilarious that Claude Julien bitched to the media about Max Lapierre and how “embarrassing” he is, and then [del]has[/del] his players do the exact same thing?
Reports are that Rome is getting a four game suspension, out for the Finals and the beginning of next season if it goes less than 7.
Players are taught to finish the check, from mites to juniors. That was a clean hit and Rome did not target the head. Horton landed on his head. Big difference.
ps- Boston fans are bush… after every game I’ve watched in the playoffs the fans throw junk on the ice. The refs are not doing their job by allowing this. Boston should start the next game a man down with a penalty on the fans. This rule is in the books.
While I agree in principle that these are dangerous hits and a suspension for Rome is warranted, I still think the NHL is insane and this is a terrible call based upon everything else they’ve assessed this year. The rationale is opposite to others:
For this suspension:
I don’t want to get into the whole debate about the hit on Pacioretty, but I want to point out two things: Chara hit Pacioretty on a late hit (the puck was at the other end of the ice) and it caused significant injury. The two indisputable facts of that hit - the lateness and the extent of injury - were explicitly not considered then and no suspension was given, while they are used to justify a relatively severe four-game suspension now.
I can only hope Brendan Shanahan can a) remember things he’s said 3 months previous (alternatively, use Google to find out what he said) and b) come up with a system that makes a certain amount of sense, because this is absurd and makes the NHL look terrible. Mike Murphy has absolutely zero integrity.
