The Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread

Congratulations Kabs.

I saw 20 chokers wearing blue and green tonight. (Well, 19, can’t blame the backup goalie.) It was a disgraceful performance by the entire squad.

Well done, Boston! Yay Bruins!

Boston deserves it. Well done them. I remember when I used to think Luongo was a good goalie, how silly I was!

Geez, Thomas was great. I’d love to rewatch some of the games, though; how good was Thomas and how bad was the Vancouver finishing?

Always loved Chara as well. Glad to see him win one.

I’ve been trying to follow the game from Bangalore India where the puck dropped at 5:30 AM. I got in the car for the office at first intermission and got back on line with the score 3-0 near the end of the third. And now it’s over and the B’s won. Boston must be going nuts right now.

One of my first strong memories growing up was watching the Bruins winning the 1970 Stanley Cup, just after we’d moved to Boston. They won it again in 1972 and I was expected a lot more to come from that team. But a nearly 40 year gap while all the other sports teams in Boston had great success. It’s now come full circle.

I’m not a fan of the dirty play, and there was plenty on both sides. IMO, game misconducts and suspension should have been handed out earlier in the season on the hit up in Montreal and the recent hit on Raymond. That’s not good hockey. Some of the rat behavior and smacking folks around the crease is part of the game and the players police it fairly well, but the injury stuff has got to go. I wish that no one had gotten hurt in this series, I think that’s bad for hockey.

But I can’t celebrate with any other Bruins fans until Sunday when I get home. I’m going to miss out on a lot of fun. But I’ll be happy by proxy. I just hope me friend Bobby who’s a cop in Boston has an easy night tonight. They’re all decked out in riot gear near the Garden.

Wish we could play it again with Schneider as the starter?

Well, if anything, my opinion of the Canucks went from “indifferent” to “hate them”, so I guess that’s something. Shut out, at home, in game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals. Embarrassing, much?

I’ll be a sore loser - I can’t congratulate the Bruins after all the shit they got away with this year. I just can’t. Sorry - I’m just not that big a person.

But hey, 9 days 'til the draft, then free agency, then training camp, and preseason in September, and we start it all over agian! Yays!!!
BC is winning 17-0 against Calgary in a CFL preseason game. I guess that’s good for Vancouver?

Smart move by Menino to stop the Garden from hosting a viewing party tonight.

18,000 drunken Boston fans all in one area would not be a good scene.

Unless Schneider has one hell of a 210-foot slap shot, how would that have changed the outcome? Luongo can’t score.

As bad as Luongo was in the games he lost, let us not forget that the vaunted offense in front of him scored eight goals, total, in seven games. If Luongo doesn’t shut out Boston twice, Game 7 wouldn’t have even happened. Did the Sedins even dress for this game? Where was Kesler? Why was the defense so porous?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more clear-cut example of guts overcoming talent. Boston was not as technically talented a team; any time Vancouver put hustle into their game Boston was on their heels. But the Canucks just would try that hard for very long. The Bruins went out and absolutely floored it for 60 minutes, and the Canucks didn’t, and so Boston won, and they deserved to.

As much as I hate to say it: congrats Boston. Ur lucky the devils were rebuilding this year!

Looks like the Vancouver fans have learned a thing or two from the Detroit fans.

Luongo sucks and he choked, he choked in the Blackhawks series too and was bailed out by Burrows stellar play, but I agree that the biggest goats in this series are the Sedin twins. Talk about a disappearing act.

Who won the Smythe? Thomas I’d guess.

Yup.

I’ll just quickly note that as a Chicagoan and fan of the Blackhawks and Bulls, having the Heat and Canucks choke consecutively is quite spectacular fashion is the next best thing to winning. I couldn’t care less about the Bruins and Mavs, aside from a small dose of Mark Cuban envy, but I didn’t want to miss a minute of either series.

Schadenfreude. Pride cometh before the fall and all that jazz.

They’ve been a lot more proactive about crowd control in Boston ever since that Emerson student was killed right after the 2004 ALCS.

Looks from the footage I’m seeing like Vancouver needed to do the same thing. That’s a legitimate riot.

Very happy for the long suffering Boston Hockey fans tonight… Congrats on the Bruins victory and taking of the Cup!

I think Vancouver has the makings of a good team for a number of years, so if they sign the right guys, they’ll be competing for awhile

And a special congratulations to Mark Recchi, the 43 year old right winger who can still bring it when the game is on the line. He announced his retirement after tonights game, which is a great way for one of the most overlooked players in the NHL over the past 2 decades.

He has 3 cups to his credit. 1 with the Penguins, 1 with the Hurricanes and one with the Bruins. I think he has a decent shot at the hall of fame.

Godspeed Mark! Enjoy your retirement. I can’t think of anyone right now that earned it more than you did.

And if you do go into the hall, I sure hope it is as a Pittsburgh Penguin. But whatever you choose to do, I’ll just be glad the hall took you in.

No surprise at the number of Bertuzzi jerseys seen in the riot.

Reports of 3 people dead so far. I just saw a photo of a Bruins fan lying beaten in the street. C’mon, Vancouver.

Wow, this is f’ed up.

CTV now retracting the fatalities report, but there’s a lovely picture floating around of a guy with his head bashed in (different from the Bruins fan). What an embarrassment.
