The Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread

surprised there is no chatter about the Flyers/Sabres Game 7… Flyers appeared to completely change their defensive approach after the 2nd period in game 6, and started defending/standing up at the blue line… completely out-played the Sabres for the next 4 periods.

Pittsburg scares me - I’d agree that Fleury is a great goalie and if Crosby can ever manage to return to a team that is doing great without him, then…

but for now -
Canucks up against the Preds tomorrow at 6 PM Pacific time. Two vezina candidates against each other. I don’t enjoy the boring play of Nashvilles trap defense, but I guess it really works for them. Here is to the Canucks battling pucks into the net.

Woohoo that’s what I was hoping for.

no weekday 2:00AM ET finishes(the Wings will of course sweep again.)

Ahem, that’s Pittsburgh.
Boucher had some dumbass idea that Sid would play tonight. Here’s hoping his stupidity extends to his game plan.

Andrew Ference threw an absolutely filthy hit on Halpern. That had better draw a suspension. I’d never seen such a clear case of attempt to injure.

I don’t remember seeing anywhere near as much flopping as the Canadiens did this whole series. It was practically soccer-esque out there. Subban in particular has no shame.

Habs and Pens go golfing! Antonio approves.

Agreed. It was disgusting. What a chickenshit team full of chickenshit goon players, and Frerrence can stick his “stuck glove” up his ass while he sits on the sidelines for a couple of games.

Bullshit. The Bruins dove just as much, or would throw a punch and wave their hands in the air in the patented “I didn’t do anything!” wave, and never get called. The refs were atrocious all series - in both directions - but to say that the Habs dove more than any other team - or even more than the Bruins - is bullshit. It means you weren’t watching the other team. Nearly every contact whatsoever with a Habs player in the offensive zone led to a few of the Bruins forwards throwing themselves on the ice like 2 year olds, looking at the refs the whole way down.

If theres any justice in the world, Chris Pronger will “accidentally” injure half the Bruins and the Flyers will sweep them.

Habs lost. Suck it up.

Wouldn’t a *true *Habs fan be out on St. Cathrine’s street tipping cars over right now?

(or is that only when they win…I can’t remember how that goes!)

Are you dancing your happy dance, Leaffan?

Then this must have been the first hockey game you’ve ever seen.

It was simply as Roenick said it was, Halpern wasn’t watching where he was going and Ference wasn’t about to get out of the way

Grow up kid. I know your Habs lost, but to wish injury is very immature and in your case, extremely hypocritical.

Never mind him – wanna join me for drinks? We can BOTH drown our sorrows.
(Now that they’ve beat us, Tampa BETTER stomp out the Caps. I don’t want Ovechkin anywhere NEAR Lord Stanley’s Cup)

You’re right, it’s hypocritical, and I do apologize for that. It comes from the anger and frustration at constantly seeing the Habs get injured due to dirty plays…and this year, they all seem to be from the Bruins. And it was a dirty hit, given as Ference clearly raised his shoulder to complete the hit. Anatomically, that doesn’t happen when someone just “doesn’t get out of the way”. It’s a lame excuse, like the stuck glove one, and I still think Ference is a chickenshit goon for not owning up to either.

I’m also tired of hearing the “Habs are divers” complaint. It simply isn’t true - at least no more than any other team.

Us FLYERS have the Bruins again??? Yawn.

Flyers in 5. But two new goal tenders this time. I doubt a blowout will happen in any game.

No. It was a good series: well matched. Either team could have won obviously.

You have a penchant for blaming the refs and “dirty players” instead of accepting that your team lost. Get used to it. I did. A long time ago! :stuck_out_tongue:

By the time Halpern ran into him, Ference was practically standing still. Ference saw Halpern coming, knew he was going to run into him, and decided not to get out of the way. You can disagree with his decision all you want, but once you accept that that is what he decided to do, the raising of his shoulder is only to offset Halpern’s impact. This is the anti-thesis of a dirty hit if there ever was one.

Yes, look at the Bruins diving: P.K Subban dives Game 7 Vs Bruins 4/27/11 - YouTube

(It’s worth noting this is during a Montreal power play, so the Canadiens benefit from having one player from each team taken out of the play.

Also** mnemosyne**, two questions for you: First, exactly how much ice time did Canadiens lose to brutal hits this series? Halpern was back on the bench less than 30 seconds of game time later, right?
Second, if the Bruins are such spineless shameless divers, how is it that the penalty minutes over the last two games were 25 to 12 in favor of the Canadiens? Are the Bruins just worse at it?

Ference skated into him and deliberately shot his shoulder up, directly targeting Halpern’s head. Clear attempt to injure.
