The State Fair - a Minnesota MMP

Everybody sing!

They call Bobbio the fireman, that’s his name.
Makin his rounds all over town puttin’ out old flames.
Well everybody’d like to have what he’s got,
He can cool em down while theyre smolderin’ hot.
He’s the fireman, that’s his name.

Grits and okra are actually the manna that came down from Heaven when the Israelites were wanderin’ in the dessert.

Rigs when you’ve been around as many big flamin’ queens as I have, you learn to appreciate good drama. A room full of gay men is a soap opera sometimes.

Ok, the Israelites did not wander around in tasty treats. They wandered around in a big sandy place called a desert. :smack:

Blergh. Grits and okra? No, thank you.
I want to join Ellen in saying that sex is better than chocolate. On that note, someone directly above me seems to agree, as there are vigorous rhythmical noises coming from above me.
Hmm. Dessert would be nice.

 Does that mean you’ve been forgiven for the grease spot???

you now need to come to my office and explain why latte just came out my nose

ok - that last one was meant to address **swampbear ** in reply to his comment about dessert/desert

and while I’m here - **swampy ** - we (the jews) most certainly did **not ** survive on grits and okra - it was lox and bagels with a schmear!

It’s my turn to shoot liquids out of my nose. There’s something wrong when a post contains references to firemen and flaming queens.

Well, LiLi wins this week’s Best Unintentional Snerkable Post Contest.

Hey, I can’t find my car payment bill - anybody seen it? Guess I’ll pay by phone like I did last month.

Lessee, what else - I think we’ve decided on the HVAC replacement - all from Trane. We’ll get the air conditioner and furnace right away, then replace the oil tank in the spring. Not that it matters for the next week or so - it’s nice and cool and overcast - yay!

swampy, I gave Bernie a cookie, but I’m still mad at her, so no skritches yet. But I will take her to the groomer on Friday for a bath and a pedicure, so there’s that.

In other news, I don’t think there’s any other news. Tomorrow is the last day of my work week - yay! Followed by a 4 day weekend - yay! Plus we’re gonna get more rain - Yay!

Doesn’t take a lot to make me happy, does it?

Mmm, grits. I haven’t had real grits since I was in Texas 7 years ago. I used to keep instant grits in my desk at work, much to everyone’s horror. If you like grits, instant is an abomination, if you don’t, I guess they’re even worse! :stuck_out_tongue: But I like them as a butter delivery system. It wasn’t until I got older that I realized that my mom treats Cream of Wheat like grits: salt and butter only. Sugar or milk on Cream of Wheat - yuck. Fried Cream of Wheat, fried in butter with salt and pepper, yum!

Starbucks put another $10 on my Starbucks card. I don’t understand why they keep giving me money, but that’s fine with me. I only go when I have money on a card, so they’re really just giving themselves money. They send me coupons and stuff, too. They have pumpkin spice lattes already, though. It’s still August! Have the decency to wait until after Labor Day, for goodness’ sake. Yeah, I bought one this morning.

Way to go, Bobbio! And a belated congrats to rigs. From junior high through high school, I worked in the school library. I loved it and I miss working in a library. I wanted to major in library science, but, well, life happened. Maybe someday.

By the way, has anybody seen my books? I haven’t seen 'em in months and I can’t find them anywhere in the house. There are 3 of them and they are probably all together, so at least they’re not lonely. I miss them and want to re-read them. I suspect they sneaked out during my last book purge. :frowning: I’m always so careful, but I always lose a couple of keepers when I’m reorganizing the shelves. Maybe library work isn’t for me, after all.

Umm yeah Jah. I think actually keeping up with books is like one of the main requirements to be a librarian. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve made two people snort/spew liquids out of their noses? Jake!

Bobbio I know some flamin’ queens who would like it if a fireman quenched their flames.

AWWWWW… poor Bernie! :frowning: She needs but skritches.
-swampbear (wondering why the need for all the smilies. )

Why does Starbucks keep giving you money? If you have a problem with that, I’ll be happy to take the card off your hands. Yeah, send it to me, I’ll take care of it for you.

Mmmm, pumpkin spice lattes. They’re really good, but yeah, it is a bit early.

No, no no. Rhythmic banging noises happen below your fun bits. Unless I’ve been doing it wrong. Or maybe we’re just quiet.

I’m glad they’ve stopped. I’m hoping it was a ‘they’. If it wasn’t, s/he was having a lot of fun home alone.

Almost time for dance class.

Ok everybody, this is the order of goodness:

Sex
Chocolate
Okra (and tomatoes!)
grits (sometimes I like 'em with salt, pepper and butter - sometimes I like 'em with butter and sugar! So there! See, sometimes I eat 'em after breakfast, like dessert. But I really need to make a grits and cheese casserole as a side dish one of these days. Ooh, you know what I made the other day? Corn fritters! Yum-mo! Wow, I’m really rambling here, and in parentheses no less!)

no no no - it’s

Sex
Chocolate
[del]Okra (and tomatoes!)[/del] Ben and Jerry’s New York Super Chunk Fudge
[del]grits[/del] a well made Cosmopolitan

Well, I’m making okra and tomatoes for dinner tonight. I’ll pine for grits … AND THEN I’LL HAVE SEX.

I live my life according to the MMP rules.

But, they taste just like grits and okra. Really. Would I lie?

Oh and somewhere high up on the list of goodness there should be a proper martini.

There is no pine in grits, Euell Gibbons notwithstanding…

My kids think I’m insane. I’ve been sitting here cackling at the above posts.

Congrats Bobbio!

I’m in the “meh” camp when it comes to grits. Maybe I just had poorly made grits; I dunno, I wasn’t overly impressed. I ate them the “correct” way with butter and a little salt and pepper.

I happen to love Cream of Wheat. I like the old-fashioned kind that you have to actually cook, and I cook it with milk. When it’s done, I add butter and brown sugar. I haven’t had it in ages though.

Okra is slimy. Okra is teh yuck! Sorry, guess I’ll never be a Southerner.

Hershey’s is NOT chocolate. It is wax. It’s edible if it’s the ONLY chocolate in reach and one is having INTENSE chocolate cravings. Otherwise, only DARK chocolate will do. Lindt and Godiva are good.

My checking account is $130.00 poorer. That’s what it cost me to purchase my daughter’s ASB card, pictures, and annual. God help me when she’s a senior. I didn’t pay for a parking permit (another $25.00) because she doesn’t have her license or a car yet. We still need to get her enrolled in Driver Education.

The actual moving through the stations went very smoothly and quickly. The hold up occurred when she received her class schedule. They had mistakenly put her in Fitness Walking and American Studies II. She already had all the phys ed credits she needs. Also, she took AmStudiesII last year. So, we had to wait for the counselor to get her schedule corrected and adjusted. Fortunately, we were able to get her schedule fixed without jeopardizing the other classes, although she didn’t get to take Sociology, which is what she asked for in lieu of the Phys Ed or Am Studies.

So, she’s taking AP Junior English, AP Psychology, Algebra II, MS Office, German (second year), Anatomy/Physiology, and her Advisory period.

I foresee lots of homework. But, she’s jazzed about the Psychology class and the Anatomy/Physiology class.

Hubby is headed up north after work to get finger printed for the renewal of his CDL. Truckers require background checks now, so he has do this in order to renew his license that is expiring next month. It also cost us $94.00 freakin’ dollars. This will be on top of the cost of the actual license, which is more expensive than the regular license. He has all the endorsements on his license. More money to spend. This is a requirement for his job (the background check), but we won’t be reimbursed for it. Which is kinda sucky. I wonder if we can claim it on our taxes next year.

Well, I’m going to cruise the Dope for a bit.

so, is **tater-daughter ** going to be a medical professional? with those courses, she could certainly get into pre-med at any number of good schools

he died of natural causes, you know…
now - I must way in on the whole chocolate discussion - Hershey’s Special Dark is actually quite good, and not at all waxy. Dark Chocolate in general is ever so much better than milk chocolate, especially when combined with nuts or dried fruits. But the best chocolate ever is Godiva Cappucino Chocolate Liquer

Taters I can’t see any reason why y’all couldn’t claim the expenses on your taxes because they are work related. I mean, I do some work from home, so I claim my dsl and cell phone and landline. Heck, if I could get away with it I’d claim the wall paint. Tax guy wouldn’t let me get away with that though. I pay him to keep me legal. Also, if I can claim auto mileage as a work related expense, why couldn’t he claim the cost of his CDL renewal and background check? However, that little bobble head doll he keeps on the dash cannot be claimed as a work related entertainment expense.

I just ate a big ol’ ham, cheese and mater sammich with a bunch of chips. It was good. I may have me a mater sammich later on. I lurves me a mater sammich with lots of mayo and a little salt and pepper. The kind you have to stand over the kitchen sink and eat. Now that’s good eats!

EC okra and maters, yum! jayjay is right there is no pine in grits. Pine nuts might be good in stewed okra and maters though.
