A couple of people have requested that their name be removed from the list.
I will do so.
Since most everyone else seems to be approving of this list, I will leave it for the time being.
MSK, will you prepare an update for me in the next few days? We’ll then respost that one. Only use names that have given you permission to do so, please, let’s respect other people’s right to privacy, such as it is.

Wow, MSK, that’s a lot of work. Being in publishing I’m normally pretty work-averse.

FTR, I use it mostly at work. This doesn’t mean I can’t use it, but it explains why a) I may have spurts where I can’t and b) any crankiness on my part. 
Mine’s Mahaloth. I’ve been on the message boards since it was actually one AOL, but tend not to read threads about AIM(don’t know why).

Here are a few notes:
[li]If you wish to be included or removed, partially or entirely, from the (soon to be revised) Straight Dope A.I.M. Directory, please post your request. This especially includes everyone already listed in my OP! Tuba and I need to know who is giving permission, and who is not. I want this to be as positive and enjoyable for everyone as possible.[/li]
[li]If you IM someone from the list, whom you have not talked to before, please immediately tell them that you are from the SDMB, your SDMB username, and that you got their screename from this thread. This is only good IM ettiqutte. They will be more far more open to chat if they know who you are and why you IM’d them.[/li]
AOL Instant Messenger is not case, or space sensitive.
Example:
Let’s say someone’s AIM name is SlUg SiGnOrInO.
If someone types this name into their IM or buddylist as “slugsignorino,” (no caps or spaces) AIM will automatically recognize the name as SlUg SiGnOrInO and show whether or not this person is online.
Not only will it recognize “slugsignorino” as SlUg SiGnOrInO but it will make this adjustment (for caps and spaces) automatically and permanently save it, as such, inside your buddylist. You don’t have to make any changes yourself. Pretty cool, huh? Many people don’t know or realize this.
Finally, I propose a deadline, that this thread will close on SATURDAY, APRIL 21, 2000. This will give me time to make the necessary revisions, and allow everyone else to make their submissions. Any submissions thereafter, will have to go into the new revised post.
